We stayed at Clearwater Ranch over 4th of July. We stayed there because every place else in Leakey/Concan area was booked up(because I only booked out 6 weeks in advance). I’ve stayed at two other places in the past — Frio Bluff Cabins and Leakey Springs cabins. From the pictures on the Clearwater website, the cabins looked more rustic than the other two I had stayed at. It was definitely more rustic! I’d like to call the Clearwater Ranch cabins a step up from camping with a very expensive price tag. To have 4 people in a cabin, it cost $ 170 per night. This is about the rate for Frio Bluff and Leakey Springs which offer modern and clean facilities with central air. The cabin smelled of must, and the carpet in the main bedroom was probably 50 years old. We wore our shoes in the cabin the entire time. The beds were home made and very hard. We brought all our groceries because the food choices in Leakey are not great. I expected a full kitchen per the website but that was not the case. The pans in the kitchen looked like they were picked up from Goodwill 20 years ago and we did not even have a knife to cut veggies with. We finally got a set of silverware and a knife and some more current pots/pans. Apparently, the cabins are popular w/family reunions and they go from one cabin to another — our’s had been«raided». The saving grace of this place is it has ½ a mile of river on the property so it’s great for hanging out on the river and tubing. They also have acreage for hiking although their horses looked rather anorexic. I would recommend camping on the property instead of renting cabins.
