We got recommended to go to Fritz as we are training in a corporate course up the street. So we go, it’s a very quaint little store. First thing we noticed out of the car was the smell. It’s a heavenly smoked meat smell. We went inside and found out it’s not just a place to eat but a place to shop for some fine smoked meats and jerky. I asked what was good and they recommended the Bette Rogers, it’s a monster of a sandwich for $ 6.(Please see Pic.) It was excellent! Full flavor. My only complaint with Fritz’s would be the Cole Slaw was pretty bland and not memorable at all, but the sandwich was very excellent! Plan on stopping by on our way out of town for some South American sausage and other smoked goods!

Their BBQ beef sandwich is delicious. The meat and sauce together weirdly(in a good way) reminded me of spaghetti bolognese! Had the potato salad too, which was very tasty– not too much mayo, and a nice hint of vinegar. The staff was super nice and accommodating– I showed up right before they closed and they were happy to make me a sandwich real quick. Can’t wait to try other menu items!

Fritz’s is a KC institution that doesn’t get as much credit as it deserves. The meats here are top flight and a fraction of the cost that you would pay at some of the new über-hip butcher shops around the Metro. With a wide variety of brats, bacon, and other meats, Fritz’s is the epitome of freshness and quality. Also overlooked are their made to order sandwiches and food. While Gates is holding court 200 feet away(and charging an arm and a leg for their wares), Fritz’s serves up a great slow roasted pulled pork sandwich and other easy eats. They also have specialty meats and more unusual items that you won’t necessarily find in stores. Whole hogs, custom smokes and cuts, etc… Don’t miss a trip here — the meat is just too good to pass up. Whether you are an avid meat slinger or an armchair BBQer, Fritz’s has you covered.

Just had the $ 3 sausage burnt ends and fries for like $ 2. Awesome is all I can say. Nice to try a variety of their products in one pint.

Love Fritz. Best andouille sausage in kc. Old school smoked meats and sausages. Great service. Great food.

Great sausage house, it’s been there forever… unassuming façade hides a real gem. You can get sandwiches & hot dogs & stuff for lunch, but I’m usually picking up something to take home and cook… sometimes knockwurst, sometimes bacon… always delicious. They’ll slice the bacon as thick as you like. If you’re lucky, they’ve got something new behind the counter & they’ll push samples on you — last time we tried a spicy sausage of some kind that was HOT! Just off the interstate, it’s easy to get in & out. The Guy has been a regular there for decades.

Fantastic food, a great staff and reasonable prices make this a must-visit if you’re in the area. I had a pint of their burnt end sausage bites, a(huge) basket of fries and a coke. While I now have to spend the next 167 hours working out to burn it all off, it was fantastic. They also have take out sausages, deli meats, cheeses and(maybe just for the holidays?) you can even bring them a turkey and have them smoke it for you for Thanksgiving! Fantastic place, I will definitely be back.

Let me start by saying I was disappointed, but it was my own fault. Going to a place that advertises it’s sausage makes you think I would order the sausage. I manages to pick something on the menu that had neither sausage nor BBQ in it. My bad! That’s is where my disappointment ends. The layout is a simple butcher counter but it is anything but simple. Even my basic club was amazing with fresh cut turkey and ham. I can’t wait to go back and try the sausage and their amazing selections of cold cuts and cheeses.

This place is AMAZING! Not only do they have great food but great customer service as well. I was completely impressed. I came here on a whim. I wasn’t sure what I wanted. I drove by and decided to give it a shot. I got out of my car and just get a blast of barbeque in my face. Safe to say, I was excited to check out what was inside. I went in and there was so much meat! I wish I could try it all but I was on a time crunch. I decided to get the Betty Rogers sandwich. Made fresh with their bacon, ham, brisket, and delicious BBQ sauce. It was incredible and I ate it all. I am not ashamed. Their fries also came out fresh and hot and were amazing. I really enjoyed their food but Kurt made it an even better experience. He was suggesting all these different meats and letting me sample them. He also let me know of the deals they had and assisted me with the cheeses they sell. I know that if I need to get meat, I will go here for it. They offered great service and will be back soon!

In from Florida we came for meat by the pound for a family picnic. Amazing turkey, corned beef and really good brisket. Cheese curds are a must!

This place is awesome!!! I love all the meats that I’ve had from here. We got a smoked turkey for Christmas and I wanted to come try it out myself. I got some brats and polish sausages, bacon, brisket, and salmon! The salmon is the best smoked salmon, hands down! and the Bacon… ooh the bacon, it’s probably the only bacon I’ll use for my BLT from now on. I did get the Bette Rogers. It was good. It was so big and messy I had to go sit at a different table than my family so I wouldn’t get bbq sauce all over them. I got it w/everything on it and the flavors were so good together. The guys that were working were taking their time w/everything but they answered all the questions that I had and were nice :)

I’ve been coming to Fritz’s for years — how I’ve gone this long without writing a review is beyond me. Fritz’s is a meat smoker. They smoke their own meats, and they also will smoke yours. Yes, they have a separate counter where you can drop off your holiday turkey, or ham, or whatever… and they’ll smoke it. Awesome. The front deli counter is full of a good sized variety of hot dogs, sausages, and smoked meats — all done in house. You owe it to yourself to try a few of these at your next cookout — the bratwurst are fantastic. You can also swing in and just grab a sandwich or lunch deal. I cannot strongly enough suggest the main reason I come back time after time after time — THEBETTEROGERS. This is a sandwich stacked with Beef Brisket, smoked bacon(not crispy, but so delicious), and ham. Then they top it with mustard, BBQ sauce, onions, artichoke hearts, and roasted red peppers. Yes, I know it sounds weird. Think of it this way — it’s a unique flavor combination that they continue to sell a crap ton of. There’s a reason for that. Try it, as it comes, and just thank me later. Service? The only downside here. Friendly enough, but slow and not particularly noteworthy. If you’re in a rush, stop elsewhere. If not, don’t worry about it and just enjoy.

We hired Fritz’s to cater our wedding(after having to fire our first, wildly non-responsive caterer — Sugar and Spice) and we couldn’t have been happier! Everyone RAVED about how awesome the food was and they weren’t wrong! It was freaking fantastic. We met with Kurt at the store a few times and got to taste all sorts of awesomely delicious meats and sides and we landed on a menu and appetizers for the event. They went with that and put together a price which was probably lower than we were originally going to pay our first caterer anyway. Certainly they were at the more reasonable end of the catering spectrum we looked at. Kurt has lots of great ideas and works hard to keep you happy. On to the food! For appetizers we had a meat and cheese tray that was delicious. We had a few meats & cheeses to choose from and we went with some ham, brisket, smoked cheddar and a pepper jack. They were great! One of our stops at the store, Kurt gave us a bacon wrapped spicy sausage and holy crap it was SO good. We HAD to have those. There were 400 of them. They were almost entirely gone and everyone kept going back for more and more. We decided we needed something a little lighter too and Kurt put together a fruit salad so that people could eat something other than meat(Why they’d want to, really, i don’t know… but hey, choices are nice. Give me more bacon wrapped sausages!) As the appetizer/cocktail hour was winding down, people were all raving and then shocked to find out that, oh wait, there’s more?! For dinner, we had a whole hog. Yeah, that’s right. Whole damn hog. It was smoked, moist and freaking delicious! We also had smoked turkey for any non-pork eaters. And also because it too was fantastic! We served that with dinner rolls, baked beans and cheesy potatoes. Everything was SO good. Everyone loved the food at the wedding and it was perfect for us cause it was exactly the type of thing we’d like to eat regularly, just on a bigger and more delicious scale. The staff who where working were courteous, professional, and worked hard to make sure everything went off without a hitch. If you are in the market for a caterer for an event, you can’t go wrong here(Hint: Don’t be stupid, you MUST get the bacon wrapped spicy sausages. Trust me). On top of all that, there is of course the retail side of Fritz’s and they’ve got a ton of very delicious meats, sausages, and cheeses for you to buy and enjoy. Can’t go wrong there either. It’s ALL good.

This is based on stopping and grabbing a sandwich to go. The sandwich was ok. It is piled high, but the beef was terribly dry. The ham and turkey was ok. The cheese had a weird chalkiness to it. Although I asked for regular mustard and not spicy, the mustard was quite strong and overwhelmed the sandwich. Although it wasn’t great, it was good enough to make me consider stopping and trying other things. Well except the service was so awful that I won’t. There were two guys working the counter. A lady came from the back and asked who was next. I stepped up to the counter, she saw me step up, and she walked off and asked everyone else if they were being helped before returning to help me. Eh, I shrugged that off. She asked what I wanted and referred to me as sir. I corrected her and asked for the special pointing to the menu board. She responded, which special we have them all on Monday. A little abrupt, but ok. I asked about the special on the menu and pointed to it again. She told me what it was and I asked for a full sandwich. She got what toppings I wanted, called me sir again, to which I again corrected her and was quite annoyed at this point, and then went to make my sandwich. As she was almost done, she asked me what sauces I wanted on it, and once again called me sir. I did not correct her this time, but apparently the look on my face indicated that I was extremely annoyed at this point, because she kind of stepped back. I took a deep breath and calmly requested my mustard and mayo. When the gentleman rang up my sandwich, it was the price of a half sandwich, not the whole I ordered. It was ok as a half sandwich is quite huge. Many of the meats in the counter looked good and I would have returned to buy some in the future if not for the poor service. The sandwich was adequate, the service sucks and someone needs a huge lesson in active listening.

I thought 5 bucks was steep for such a small sandwich… but then I realized the meat was stacked double high. I got the brisket and it was probably the best brisket I have had in a long time. I didn’t know much about how to go about ordering… you order your sandwich at the meat counter… and I guess you can get toppings for the sandwich… but that sign is small and in a different location than the menu that is posted on the wall. There are specials each day. You can grab a bag of chips. I saw a lot of people with hotdogs. I almost ordered one of those too but the sandwich filled me up and I was pretty hungry. Old time deli style set up… nothing fancy. A roll of paper towels on each table… very important. BBQ and I can get a bit messy.

It is truly quintessential KC to have an icon like Gates BBQ right next door to a smoker/charcuterie like Fritz’s. While the vast majority of their business comes from those who come to drop off meats to be smoked or from those who come to buy their meat fresh, there is the occasional lunchtime traffic, which came from my friend David and I yesterday. We got the Bette Rogers, which is an iconic sandwich. Picture great fresh bread, with spicy mustard, artichokes, roasted red peppers, bacon, sausage, and brisket. Perfect.

Awwww, the delights of Smoked meats. Bacon, salami, ribs, briskets, brats, and weiniers. Could a girl ask for more? It’s Christmas time ladies… a gift giving occasion. If your man is hard to buy for, consider meat. Truly the way to a man’s heart is through meat. The scent of smoked pork wafting through the air is an enticing aphrodisiac to the average Kansas City male, so package up a pound ‘O pork and he will follow you anywhere. And as a bonus… he will cook too! This should be a no brainer!
