Ok, I was not a person that loved to workout but over Thanksgiving 2013 I went for a week with my friend and decided at the end of the week I couldn’t stop. I never wanted to be that sore again. Little did I know I would be sore all the time from the new workouts. Who would have thought that I would look forward to the gym and never want to miss a class again. The work outs are 6 days a week with each day focusing on something different and these class are done for a month. Beginning in Sept 2014 they have gone even further and the classes change every week and not every 4 weeks so you are able to work different muscle groups all the time. You still may have Kickboxing on Tuesday and Cardio on Thursday each week but the sets are different in each class. You can join any time but they do have 8 week challenges that start about once a quarter. You do not have to join a challenge but if you do you get 3 assessments. Each taking measurements and Muscle mass and fat mass along with the weight. It is truly amazing to see your body change and to challenge yourself to do more. The coaching staff are always there for you and willing to help you meet your goals. Come join us for a class and you will see what happens. They offer morning classes and afternoon classes to fit your schedule and even your teenage kids can join too. The only negative is they do not have child care. Take time for yourself this fall and increase your energy while decreasing your pant size. Together we are Kosama Strong

Tried out with a groupon for a month. Each day of the week focuses on a different workout… From upper or lower body classes to boxing and circuit training. I liked how they have multiple class times and provide showers. The place is always busy but never an issue with getting into a class. The variety of workouts and focus for each day is a great concept but I just didn’t commit after I utilized my groupon even though the pricing was good. Some instructors were pretty decent with instruction but a lot of them I wanted to push me harder. I felt like when the class was just halfway decent with something that the instructors were not too concerned on taking the extra step to get each person at their best potential and perfect form. So I could walk in and be lazy about it and nobody would call me out on it. In a gym… I prefer instructors who really take the time to work me out no matter what athletic shape you are in.

My coworker, who has tried several group fitness classes similar to Kosama, convinced me to try it with her. I had just recently started back up at 24 Hour Fitness and had ventured into a couple of their classes and really liked them. This was the only Kosama location starting new classes at the time, so we joined, even though it’s a half hour away from where we work and live. The hard part is getting there. For those of you who don’t know, Kosama is a six-day workout regiment with different routines daily. We regularly rotate between kettle bells, kickboxing, cardioflex and plyos. On days that we do arms, we also do abs. The cardioflex class incorporates a bit of yoga into it and plyos is mostly cardio. The classes are jam packed and fly by. I always feel amazing after each class and can totally see an improvement in my arms and legs. My gut still remains a problem area. My only critique is that not all the instructors provide guidance on form and some of them only demonstrate the move once or twice, which may not be a problem for most, but I’m severely challenged when it comes to coordination.

I am lazy, the closest I come to working out is wearing heels for 9 hours straight and since there isn’t a pole involved it doesn’t really count. After the Panama excursion and feeling oh-so-fat in my «tankini» and, well, being in my 20’s and owning a tankini I decided it was time for a change and joined Kosama. The initial evaluation confirmed my feelings of sluggish sloth mode when my BMI indicated there is an entire loose 30 pack of Miller Lite floating around my body in the form of unnecessary fat…*poking stomach* oh there it is. The first kettle bell class and I thought I was going to yak at least three times but pushed through the 58 minutes of sweaty agony to a sense of accomplishment. Plyometrics got me down to barf-mode only twice and by the time Saturday crack-of-dawn kickboxing rolled around I was hooked. I was self-conscious initially due to location — I envisioned the lean, mean unemployed cougars I see pawing at the wait-staff at Nick and Jakes in track suits. To my surprise most people are equally as out of shape as I am so there is a sense of solidarity not mockery. It should be noted I have only completed week one but find myself looking forward to the next class… shit did I just say that? Who jumped inside my beer-loving couch-sitting brain and reprogrammed it with images of yoga mats and boxing gloves? Will update in 7 weeks when hopefully I will have high-kicked half these«Mille’s» out of my torso and my BMI reading indicates I just have a couple 40 ouncers to lose.
