Wasn’t a huge fan of the wine, just not my pallette, but the place was divine with dancing, live music, outdoor seating, lovely venue.

We were in the area and decided to stop in. This was our second winery while in CT. Our first was Sharpe Hill. This had a different vibe. We showed up on a Sunday and the place was packed! They had live music and every table and chair was taken. It appears you can bring your own food and camp at this place. The tasting bar was two deep. We waited for our turn. The man that finally served us was working hard and you can tell was besides himself. We did the tasting and did learn a bit about their wines. It was really too busy to talk to the server and know about the wines. We bought a glass of wine and went out on the patio in the cold to get out of the noise. We drank our glasses quickly as it was a bit too cold for the Texans. I am sure the place is nice on a less busy day. None of the wines really blew us away. We didn’t buy a bottle. We enjoyed the wines at Sharpe Hill more. View out the back so so. Again Fall time frame so maybe nicer other times of the year.

Disappointed. Maybe it was because we were here in November, I don’t know. Once we walked in, we stood at the bar(seats not available) and decided to do the tasting for $ 12. For the tasting we had 2 whites, a rose and 3 reds. The rose was a blend. All 6 wines were served as ‘splashes’ in the same glass. There was no history or background provided just a few words on the types of grapes. Not informative at all. Such a disappointment. We bought a bottle of rose and a red along with the cheese platter to sit and drink outside considering we spent $ 50 on Über to get here. Decent wine nothing amazing. The wine and cheese platter was comical. For the platter we received a block of cheese, a package of pepperoni and a box of crackers(store price tags were still on everything) a wooden cheese board shaped like a fish and a steak knife. Please see my image for this gem of a platter. After an hour and a half, we were ready to go home. Once we got in the Über, the driver asked if we had a nice time. Politely we said it was ok. His response, «Yeah it’s the least popular winery’s in the area». And that concludes this review.

This is a cute vineyard to go to near the casinos. Has a lot of indoor seating. The interior decorating gives you a very home like feeling.

Maugle Sierra is the best winery in CT. The St Croix red is very good and the stand-out among their choices. The setting is very picturesque, with outdoor seating that overlooks the vineyard. Nice service-staff.

Great place. Bring your own food and enjoy the local wine, surrounded by great ambiance, laughter and live music. I’ve been meaning to visit this place for a couple of years now(it’s literally right down the road from me) but tonight was the first time I finally made it and I’m glad I did! What a great place. I will definitely come again. The white wine rendezvous was great, but my favorite was the dessert wine with chocolate & dark cherry notes.

I visited the Maugle Sierra Vineyard on a cold winter night and the atmosphere was absolutely splendid. The interior has a nice rustic cabin like feel, the other customers were all friendly and seemed to know each other, and the owner was very welcoming and made you feel at home. It was also a Friday and the live music was excellent. For a small vineyard which only drew a small crowd, I was thoroughly surprised at the quality and caliber of the musicians. A few people danced, and it was comfortable enough that we danced for a few tunes, but most of the patrons were not dancing. Now, onto the wines, the part that I’m honestly not the most qualified to review. Let’s start with an admission, I’m new to this whole wine game, so I’m pretty unrefined. I liked a few of their wines, they had reasonably priced bottles(around 20), and the House Red, was really quite nice in my opinion. I’m not an expert, but I enjoyed it quite a bit. Overall, this is an excellent place, quite romantic, and I look forward to visiting it again in the summer time, even though the cabin feel and fire place also made it perfect for winter. They are situated at an excellent location, deep in the woods with a great view, and they have an excellent glass wall to look out at the sky. I highly recommend.

This vineyard definitely gets points for having the most cabin-like feel. It’s a spot I could imagine staying for a while.(They do have some live music days!) However, unbelievably to me, I did not like any of the wines here. I did not find them complex enough, and the prices seemed way too much to splurge on something that I didn’t like. Also, it was really hard to get anyone’s attention and stay on track with the pours. I didn’t feel like they knew how to handle a small crowd compared to some of the other spots on the CT Wine Trail. Not my jam, but if you’re around the area, it’d be worth scoping out.

Went here as first stop yesterday on wine trail. This place was pretty busy with a couple bachelorette parties. Our party of three were told to squeeze at an end corner of the bar. Tastings are $ 12 for 6 wines. Wines are mediocre and I wasn’t overly impressed with any of them. Pours are very small compared to others on the trail and our server just seemed to be going through the motions with little personality.

I visited Maugle Sierra this past Sunday around 3pm. When I arrived, this place was jumping — there was live music and people sitting and enjoying bottles of wine. When we went up to the tasting area, the gentleman behind the counter told us that tastings were closed for the day… what!!! This disappointed us greatly and we were curious why they would close the tastings since we would have gladly spent $ 50 – 60 amongst our posse of 5 people to do a round of tastings. However, since we decided to buy a bottle, the gentleman did offer us a few free samples so that we could pick something that would suit our tastes, which was very kind. Once we picked a bottle, we headed down to the lower area below the deck to enjoy our wine. It was very rustic and comfortable, with our adorondack chairs and tree stump tables. There was also a huge fire pit nearby us(not in use, thank goodness, because it was like an 85 degree day), but it seems like it would be a cool place to hang out in the Fall and enjoy a few drinks. I definitely enjoyed the atmosphere of this place and all of the people we met were very happy/friendly and looked like they were having a good time as well. Great place.

I love every vineyard I have been to in CT so far, so my opinions might be biased because I adore wine, cheese & wineries in general and every time I’ve been to a winery we’ve somehow picked awesome weekend with lots of sun and nice weather. Anyway, this place was no exception. I loved the décor, very California like, the wines were great & I LOVED the Adirondack chairs they had outside overlooking the vineyard. They also had a little truck outside where you could purchase pizza from(I had a small sample, it was tasty!) My only minor complaint was the people working here were not super friendly, in my opinion. They weren’t that busy, so I’m not sure what the deal was, but they were the least friendly of all the vineyards I’ve been to so far.

Another pretty stop along the CT Wine Trail. We enjoyed a tasting with Esther, who was friendly and joked around with us. At $ 12 for 6 stingy pours, the tasting wasn’t the best value. The wines were ok; Que Sera Syrah was the winner for me, not only because I like Syrah and I like puns, but because it was decadently delicious, bordering on a port(«like a port with training wheels»). But at $ 37 a bottle, that wasn’t happening. So, we opted for the more modestly priced Ledyard Red to enjoy on the porch with some fantastic live music. Since this was a pretty spur of the moment visit, we weren’t prepared with any picnic snacks, but were able to buy a nice block of local cheese and borrow a cutting board and knife. I thought the tasting room and the grounds had a very cozy, homey feel, and we were welcomed to get comfortable and enjoy the afternoon. While the wines were decent but not astounding, I would recommend Maugle Sierra as a lovely place to spend some time.

I’m giving this vineyard four stars really just for being pretty :) Amazing view, outside seating, gorgeous inside wine room, rolling hills and all. I love the décor. They encourage you to bring a picnic lunch, buy a bottle and sit and have a lovely meal with a great view. Unfortunately I’m not a huge fan of the wine. The whites are OK, I’m just big on white wines in general. i really disliked the red wines here. This is not surprising for CT-local wines, since many red grapes don’t grow well here, so I chose not to knock off any stars for this. I did think that even the red wines made with imported grapes were not as good as some other local wineries, though.

Okay, so I have to start off that I am a California wine drinker, I was raised in CA and most of the wine I drink is from my local area of Livermore, my other favorite area is Paso Robles. I went to visit my sister and we went to check out a few wineries in CT. We went to a few that we really enjoyed, had great wine, good service and were wonderful, this was not one of them. They have no dump buckets, which made wanting to dump every pour,(because the wine tasted terrible) REALLYAWKWARD. If you want fruit forward wines, don’t go here. If you want well balanced wines, don’t go here. If you want to relax with a bottle of wine on a beautiful porch with a beautiful view– you can go here but there are other places I’d recommend instead.

Great location with a pretty tasting room and a ton of outdoor seating. We’ve been twice when they have live music. It’s always nice to have some music in the background. They let you bring in outside food, which is always nice. I do have to say though, they’ve been a bit crabby both times we’ve been there. The woman wouldn’t let me use the Unilocal check in offer(which is stingy anyway) even though we bought a bottle of wine. I always forget the attitude as soon as I walk away from the bar, which is why I’m able to give 4 stars. Do a tasting if you must, grab a bottle and go enjoy the outside seating and the music. A great stop on the trail and a great way to spend an afternoon and get a passport stamp!

A hidden gem! We came from Jonathan Edwards to this vineyard and really didn’t know what to expect, but what a pleasant surprise. Hidden in a wooded clearing, the tasting room was warm and inviting. The staff was very pleasant and knowledgeable, and a live band was paying on the deck. The owner was out on the deck enjoying the sunny afternoon and everyone was smiling. We brought home a bottle of the St. Croix which was our favorite of the wines we tasted. Bonus points to the lady behind the bar for giving us a tip about heading to Captain Scott’s in New London for some seafood at the dock. Bring your wine and prepare to OD on seafood. Highly recommended and absolutely one of our favorites of the dozen or so CT wine trail vineyards we have visited to date.

Wineries in CT. Who knew? My tendency is to compare them with Long Island wineries but that is unfair since the LI wineries have been around for a lot longer and produce different varieties due to the micro climate on the East End. This winery is set in the woods overloking a small valley where the grapes are grown. Outside patios and Adirondack chairs for enjoying your wine among the trees. The only thing preventing 4 stars here is the tasting menu. There was 1 choice only 8 wines for $ 14. They didn’t offer a smaller menu for those of us who don’t want 8 ounces of wine at 11 in the morning.

This is one of my top 3 favorite vineyards on the trail. A beautiful new tasting room opened over the last year or so, and the atmosphere is really nice, both inside and outside, with lots of shady spots to sit, fun ornaments and statues, and artsy décor. There is frequently live music here as well. The tasting is $ 14 for 8 wines, which is a little steep, but most of the wines are great… different from what you typically find at the rest of the wineries. The Rose is great, but we left with a bottle of the new Rendezvous, a Riesling blend good for summer, and the St. Croix, a sweet, semi-dry red. I was sad to see the dessert wines weren’t offered as part of the tasting or by the glass; they used to be, and they are delicious, but given the $ 35+ per bottle price, I’m not going to buy a bottle without sampling first. That, along with the high tasting price, are the only reasons this review isn’t 5 stars! I’ve visited 3 times and always had tastings with Paul, the owner, who is very knowledgeable about wine and always extremely nice. I’m sorry to hear other reports of bad service, but it’s just never been my experience.

Still a five, I just had to add that the last time I went they had a musical trio… and they played Driving in My Car by NRBQ… one of my favorite songs that nobody knows. It made my day.

Attractive, spacious tasting room and beautiful grounds. The venue is perched up on a hill, and from their porch you can view some nice foliage and scenery. Ended up buying a table red wine(blend). Friendly staff.
