Smoothie Spree Chronicles — Part 1: I’ve been on a smoothie spree around KC lately, so I’ve become quite the smoothie aficionado and this place was better than I expected. I wasn’t very impressed when I first walked in because the shop itself is kind of empty-feeling, with shelves full of intimidating supplements and protein powders instead of the friendly smoothie sunshine vibe that the other smoothie spots I’ve been visiting have. But then I ordered a PB& J smoothie… and oh gosh. That stuff was GOOD. It comes in a big white styrofoam cup so it’s nothing pretty on the outside, but it’s what’s on the inside that counts, right?! The employee behind the encounter was also really nice/helpful and even gave me a small discount after I told him it was my first time there. This appears to be somewhere you’d come after a workout to get a yummy power-packed protein smoothie, and I saw some guys walking in who looked freshly-exercised and like they had just burned some calories. I, on the other hand, was just stopping by to consume calories on my lunch break. Whatever.

The smoothie shop has the best tasting, highest protein recovery shakes in the business hands down. I’ve been to a lot of different smoothie places, but none can compare to the smoothie shop. All of the guys that work there know me by name and are extremely cool. They’re a strong Christian group of guys that seek God and gains. For people that are attempting to diet in very particular ways they also have vegan and gluten free options. Peanut Butter Pie is my fave! Definitely recommend as a meal replacement or post workout shake place. Go give it a try!

I’ve been here nearly 30 times to get my post workout protein smoothie and every time I feel like I am interrupting the employees. There have been at least a dozen times I’ve received an incorrect order. Usually this is when I try to tweak & customize my smoothie and the employees are in the middle of a Madden game or discussion about sports & the like. The smoothies taste good and are nutritionally sound however the shop is not a welcoming thoroughfare. The menu board is more confusing than it ought to be. Once I figured out what smoothie I liked I stuck to it. It was frustrating to ask questions about different flavors and supplements due to the fact that the employees are usually in the middle of a debate. The employees are almost always playing Madden on the Xbox or have at least one friend/customer standing around the cash register debating muscle supplements. I’ve only seen one female employee and that was my first time visiting The Smoothie Shop. That was also the nicest experience I’ve had there and the most an employee has spoken to me. I think this is why I held onto The Smoothie Shop for so long. She really made a great impression on me. All the other times the employees have to pause the Xbox or tell me my total in between sentences with each other or other customers. The bottom line is this place has a «meat-head» atmosphere that is lacking in professional customer service. The Smoothie Shop is more of a men’s club than a public cartel.

Great staff who take pride in their product and merchandise. A variety of flavor of smoothies to choose from. A wise choice to make after a work out is to visit this shop.

Smoothies are all the craze right now, and yes, they’re all good, but then you look at the calorie content. HELLO! 900 calories and 30 grams of fat? No thanks! The Smoothie Shop has a concept that all restaurants need: good tasting food(in this case drinks) that are healthy. Seriously, it is really necessary to make a salad 800 calories? They have a variety of smoothie flavors from fruity to chocolate and have different«add-ins» like extra protein, vitamins, etc. They’ll make anything, even if it’s not on the menu as long as they have the ingredients. For an astonishing 350 calories and 30GRAMSOFPROTEIN you get a HUGE(and I really mean it) smoothie. I kid you not, I drink one of these for lunch and I’m full ’til 8 o’clock at night. Mind you, they do have smoothies that have higher calorie content, but you’re still getting a low fat, high protein smoothie. And the awesome thing is that all the nutritional information is posted! I love informed decisions! The smoothies are about 5 bucks a pop, and once you see how much you get, that’s a steal! The shop also sells protein powders and supplements not unlike GNC. The shop has gained notoriety since opening and even was part of the Chiefs training camp in St. Joe. And I just have to add in, the guys that work there and the owner are just some of the nicest people you’ll meet. Makes me even happier to patron there.
