I liked it here at first because the sandwich was fresh tasting but I got a soggy sandwich one day and I just can’t do it after that. Soggy sandwiches are so not good.

I ate here when they first opened and I got their turkey sandwich on sourdough. The sandwich was completely dry, FULL of sprouts(I get you put sprouts on the sandwiches, but when you can barely see what else on on the sandwich because there are so many, you need to rethink your plan there) and my bread was stale. Very, very stale. So… I went here a couple weeks ago thinking, you know what, I’ll give them a second chance, maybe since they had just opened last time they needed to work the kinks out… NOPE. It was still bad. I got their most popular sandwich, and I could barely eat a fourth of it. Still dry. still bland. Eh, definitely won’t be eating here a third time.

This place does have great food! It’s fresh and you get more of an option for sides than just chips(though they do have those as well!) The staff is very friendly and knowledgable, so you’re probably wondering why I only rated then 3 stars? The fallback is that they are very slow. I am a repeat customer and what keeps me coming back is their fresh sandwiches and sides, I would come back more if I didn’t have to wait 10 – 15 each time for my sandwich. Every single time I have come to the deli, I have only ever seen 2 people working. That’s fine for slow times, but I will usually go in on my boyfriends lunch hour with him(12 – 1) and still, only 2 workers. We had only 2 orders in front of us. One was a family of three, and the other was only one woman, so 4 sandwiches total. It took 25 minutes for 2 sandwiches and they forgot my avocado I paid extra for. The very politely apologized for the error and they wait and fixed it promptly. The deli is nice, clean, and a great place to eat(though it is a little small.) But if you do plan on going, be prepared to wait for your food.

So I was stoked to hear on the radio that a deli is coming to town. Living in the central valley I have not been too impressed with restaurants. Some descent ones here and there other than the mainstream restaurants. Coming from the LA area you can find an assortment of great foods from different cultures and countries. Fresno and the remaining central valley has been around for a great while therefor I dont understand why we are behind the power curve. Anyway, I have been looking for a nice fat pastrami or rueben sandwich and when I mean fat I mean fat. For instance google Jerry’s Famous Deli and look at the sandwiches they have there. Well back to my point. When I heard Emily’s deli was coming to town I was expecting a DELI! Not a typical sandwich I can buy at Savemart/Walmart/Subway!!! When you think Deli you think sandwiches loaded with«deli meat» with a side of either cole slaw or potato salad and a pickle… not here. The menu does not have a specific pastrami or rueben sandwich which was upsetting… being that those are common deli sandwiches. Then when I asked the girl in the counter for a fat pastrami sandwich she looked at me like I was on something. So I ordered my pastrami sandwich being that pastrami is a la carte. I asked if it was hot? Once again she looked at me as if I was on something. She then told me they did not have hot pastrami but cold pastrami… as I was feeling retarded at ghis point she then offered to heat it up. To get to the point I get home and my supposed deli sandwich was totally not what I expected… lets put it this way, I walked to my fridge pulled out sandwich meat heated it up and supplemented my sandwich. The sandwich did not taste bad hence the two stars, but this business has no place to call itself a deli. To top it off the customer service was not great. Did not feel welcoming and it did not leave the want to come back vibe. Im one to give second and even third chances. I hope they smell the coffee and look into separating themselves from a typical sandwich business if they expect to make it in this economy. My word of advice to Emily’s. If you want to be considered a deli… act like one. Myself and im sure many others are willing to pay extra to have a bomb sandwich.
