Gordmans

Do you need a bundle of sticks that can lean against a corner of your room? Do you need a canvas wrap print of seventeen horses? Do you need a really massive candle? Do you need a turtle lookin’ purse? Do you need crappy jewelry? Discounted fragrances? Frames? Chocolate? Pillows? Pants?
If you said «yes» then Gordman’s is your place. The sheer variety and volume of crap in this place amazes me. It is nothing like a TJ Maxx, where it looks like a bomb went off and crap just scattered to the corners of the building; Gordman’s is well organized and laid out, with high aisles and TONS of stuff on clearance.
They have great: cheap art, fake plants, frames, candles, home décor
They have crappy: clothes, jewelry, sheets, accessories
These are just my opinions, of course. I got some of the most robust wine glasses I’ve ever bought here, and a cheap candle that freshens up my place. Overall, this is an awesome store to wander around in. You’ll find stuff you didn’t know you needed. Oh, look at this iron-​rod wine glass holding decoration thing for my wall…

I like Gordman’s because it’s a little bit classier than TJ Maxx and it is better organized. This is the only Gordman’s location on Kansas side of the Kansas City metro.
I like Gordman’s because even though they have not as many name brand brands at TJ Maxx, they seem to have a better selection, both style-​wise and size-​wise. (It is more of a department store feel instead of a bargain outlet feel.)
Besides a good selection of clothing, they also have a pretty big selection of sports team memorabilia (KU, K-​State, Mizzou), shoes, pajamas, and home décor, especially for the holidays. My mom and I both got new 2009 calendars for $ 5 as well. It is hard to find a calendar for that price anymore!

Gordman’s is your average smaller chain department store (think Kohl’s, TJ Maxx or Mervyn’s). This is a well laid out, sensible store that offers everything from clothing to home accessories to jewelry to furniture.
Nothing is cheap per se, but just generic, run of the mill stuff. Even the name brand clothing seemed just plain. They do however have very big selection of items in easy-​to-​please colors and fashions.
Lesson learned from shopping at Gordmans? Shop here if you need a gift for someone you don’t know too well because chances are, the person can find nothing wrong it.
