This is basically a thin veneer of granite that lays over your existing counter to make it look like solid granite. The premise sounds wonderful except that they charge more than solid granite! I’m not quite sure what I’m missing because wouldn’t the point be to save money over replacing your counters with solid granite? Anyway, if you get a bid be sure a get several bids from people who install solid granite because they can beat GT and you will have the real deal.

We ended up going elsewhere. Our GT sales lady was very polite, knowledgeable and nice but we got another quote from someone else(which was for full granite, not just the overlay) and it ended up being less than half the price GT quoted. That could possibly have been because the company we went with discovered we only needed 2/3rds of the material of what the granite transformations rep had measured. We tore the original countertop out ourselves to save some money, but that would have made a minimal difference in the overall cost and GT doesn’t tear out the countertop, they lay over it, according to my understanding. We still got a nice slab of granite and a 15 year warranty so we’re happy. Bottom line: I’m sure GT has a great product and install team, but we personally weren’t impressed with our experience. I’d recommend getting several quotes no matter what type of project you’re doing on your home.
