I went here for breakfast today and was greeted warmly immediately. I also noticed a haze in the air due to the lack of ventilation and frying bacon I assume. It also felt very warm like their air conditioning wasn’t working very well. We sat down at a table that supposedly had been cleaned but there were crumbs and sticky areas all over. I saw a lady wipe another table and she didn’t even lift up the placemats to wipe under them. The placemats just had advertisements on them, by the way. We ordered water to drink and they were given to us in styrofoam cups, an immediate turn off for me at a sit-down restaurant. Our order was taken promptly, and it didn’t take very long to get our food out. I was also given a fork in a totally unnecessary plastic bag rather than a napkin or in paper. I ordered french toast with eggs and patty sausage. I could have made the french toast better myself at home, but the eggs and sausage were both great. Overall the food was just okay, and I was extremely turned off by the wasteful cups and plastic bags. Please consider using simple reusable cups(like those plastic coke cups I’ve seen at similar diners) especially since you already use reusable plates and silverware. I also had fried food smell stuck in my hair and clothes from the poor ventilation. If it wasn’t for the friendly service I would be giving one star.

Fast and friendly lunch! There are not enough of these cool ma and pop places left. So glad we stopped

I fully agree with Grayson’s review. Only I got there too late for breakfast(stops being served at 10:30am). The place closes at 1:30pm, so I finally got in there today. I just ordered the special of the day: chicken breast with rice and gravy, rolls, green beans and some super peach cobbler. The chicken was SO good you could easily cut it with a fork, which I did the entire time. The meal was just plain fantastic. Staff, and Clarence, were as nice as nice gets. I only live a couple miles away, and it’s going to be my go-to place whenever I can afford going out to eat. I’m really looking forward to what specials they have on different days because I’d bet my bottom dollar it’s going to be damn good! Do yourself a favor and go to Clarence’s Friendly Lunch — the name says it all, almost, because the food is every bit as good as the ‘friendly’ part! I don’t give out five stars too often, but this great place more than deserves it. Thank you Clarence, and your staff too.

It’s where the locals go! Great service, an atmosphere where everybody knows everybody. I prefer getting biscuits, you can’t go wrong with anything there though! Make sure you get bacon! I absolutely love the food, I highly recommend this place for breakfast!
