Good selection of music in all forms. Also great selection of posters that you don’t typically find in «box stores». Will definitely be my source for music purchases in the future.

Let me preface this by saying that I am a Lexington native who has some very fond memories of this place. I bought my first vinyl — «My Aim is True» — here in 1998 for $ 17. I was elated. In many ways, CD Central sparked a life-long love for record collecting. That’s invaluable, and I’m sure it still serves that purpose for high school kids. THATSAID… This. Is. A. Record. Store. For. High. School. Kids. The used vinyl stock here is pitiful and overpriced. Want some Lou Reed? Go fuck yourself. Interested in a David Bowie album that isn’t «Let’s Dance»? Good luck, buddy. Think you could maybe score some rare soul — maybe even some not-so-rare soul, some Supremes perhaps? LULZ. Good luck. The store is picked over to the max. The owner guards his cruddy stock like a hawk. Here’s a little story. I was testing out a $ 2.99 record from a mid-rank 70s prog group(Renaissance, anyone?) on their god-awful little listening turntable. The owner took the time out of his busy schedule of glowering at the clientele he clearly despises to tell me not to touch his Black Gold, «Because no one wants your fingerprints on their records, man.» OK. Fair. ITWAS A $ 2.99RENAISSANCELPTHAT I INTENDEDTOBUY. The reviewer(«Cheddar P.») who said this is as good a record store«as you’ll find anywhere in the country» is kidding him/herself. Amoeba or Other Music this ain’t. At the end of the day, CD Central survives because it has some worn-out hipster cred and a cherry spot across from the University of Kentucky. Fond memories of youth aside, you couldn’t pay me to buy a record from these people. AVOID. Drive up the road to Pop’s, head up to Cincinnati, or just order from Amoeba online. CD Central blows.

Very great assortment of records, CD’s, and cassettes, only grip is some of the bigger albums that you would hope to be able to find are not(or were not present) when I visited. Hopefully that can be reminded with a new shipment, otherwise highly recommended

CD Central is as good an independent record store as you’ll find anywhere in the country, and I’ve visited most of the good independent record stores in this country. The selection is diverse and complete, and on the odd chance they don’t have what you’re looking for in stock, they’ll be happy to special order it for you, and they’ll call you up as soon as it comes in. The vinyl selection, both new and used, is outstanding. Also, the prices at CD Central are surprising. I have actually seen new releases on sale at CD Central at a lower price than Best Buy, Target, or Walmart. Seriously. They don’t jack up prices at CD Central at all. CD Central is, quite simply, the best place in Lexington to buy music.

This is the place to go to for a music fix. I’ve purchased so many of my cd’s here, not only cd’s but numerous posters and what not. I still own many of these items today. It’s perfectly located next to campus which makes it easy for students.

Great place to find music, DVDs, and gifts. This is one of Lexington’s hot spots for buying local. It’s one stop shopping for xmas gifts near Squecial Media. Checkout the staff’s yearly music picks.

I’ve been a customer ever since they opened at their old location over on Bolivar St(in the building where Laser Quest was). Forget the big box stores like Best Buy… go here for you music! New, used, whatever… you’ll probably find it here. They also carry movies, posters, & everything in between. So…go now… tell Steve HI!

CD Central is the best place to go for music. Rarities, imports, previous release, even vinyl records. You can find almost any CD you’re looking for. If you can’t find it they can order it for you. They also carry a selection of local artist. Stuff you cant find anywhere else. CD Central is also the place to go to find out what is going on around the area. Their web site features links to exclusive CDs by local bands, as well as information and reviews, contests and giveaways, and information about upcoming concerts and events.

i always imagine record stores to be really pretentious but CD central is great especially since they expanded their vinyl collection. they’ll order anything you want(if they don’t have it) to and then call you when they get it! they have tons of great music in there; CD, or vinyl. had a few conversations with the guys who work there about vinyl vs digital which are always fun. they all seem to know a ton about music weather they like it or not is irrelevant they are like human libraries, always a blast to talk to I’m sure you could like justin beiber and they would still have fun meaningful things to say about your choice! avoid wal-mart come here oh and speaking of wal-mart if you have a wal-mart gift card they may even exchange it for the value on the card(usually a xmas promo)

love cd central! prices are affordable, especially in comparison to the corporately owned soul sucking stores and you can find so many genres of rock here.

Being from Seattle, I feel a personal responsibility to always seek cool music, past and present. And a large part of that includes perusing the local record stores. No better way to get a taste of the local flavor than by browsing racks and racks of CDs and records. CD Central brought me back to my days in the Emerald City. This store is an oasis. A perfect blend of everything you could ever want and everything you didn’t know existed. While it can be a little cramped for space, I found it to be pretty cozy. This may just end up being my new favorite spot in town.

Large variety of music but more importantly, VINYL! Bunch of posters you can buy and if they are out, just go up and ask them to place an order for you. The atmosphere is very cool and the staff is very friendly. Get off your iTunes and check this place out sometime
