A childhood fantasy come true. It’s «Willy Wonka» meets your favorite antique store. This place was my favorite hangout as a child — and if you’ve never experienced it you should. Friendly staff, interesting décor, and a wide variety of items. Check it out.

The Lexington General Store(aka the Candy Store in my circle) is a MUST-DO in the Lexington area. The kids think it is the greatest thing ever to be able to pick a whole bagful of candy, piece by piece — I think it’s great to see how far $ 1 can go to make the kids so happy! When we REALLY feel like splurging, one of our favorites in the old school toys section is the potato gun. It’s about $ 3(make sure to buy a couple — it’s way more fun that way), that«bullets» are made from pressing the toy into a potato. HOURSOFENJOYMENT. I have tried a lot of their seasonings and grilling sauces, and they have yet to disappoint. They also have lots of cute kitchen accessories. Upstairs is a baby gift area, but is especially known for the Christmas ornaments and accessories. Their wide assortment make great hostess gifts at holiday time! It’s definitely a «step back in time», but I will ALWAYS make time for the Lexington General Store.

This place was ok, I thought they had a good selection of old skool candy. It brought me back to my childhood.

If you’re going downtown Lexington, you have to go in the General Store. There is just something about pulling open that heavy door, hearing the bell ring and hearing the old wooden floor boards creak. However, I have to be honest, I almost never purchase anything. I’ve been there a many times over the years and I have never seen a new product. Each time I go into that store I see the same exact products. It’s actually kind of freaky. But if you’re going to buy something, get the bag of caramels by the register. They are amazing.
