I used to love wimpys and have been going here for over 20 years. I’m not even really sure if the foods even that good but it’s our tradition to stop here since we have a summer place in Lexington, so that’s what we do. Unfortunately the owner is a massive creep & incredibly rude to his employees. His son(a grown man now) seems to be managing while his dad is absent and is clearly following in his gross fathers footsteps — do yourself a favor and stop behaving like your father, it’s no way to manage your staff. It’s incredibly uncomfortable so we started sitting in the back to get away from that hot mess at the grill. The owner should be ashamed of himself, his son clearly has a sense of entitlement based on the way he treats his fathers staff. I wonder where he learned it from? We couldn’t figure out why it was SO expensive every time we came here and it’s because they charge you for refills on your pop — but you won’t find the words no free refills anywhere on the menu. SERIOUSLY? How freaking cheap are you? I would be embarrassed to show my face if I owned this place & charged refills for FOUNTAIN pop. That’s also why I think the owner is a major douche, he’s cheap. I feel really bad for the poor kids who work here, I’m surprised their parents allow it. My mom would have kept me 100 feet away from those fools. I understand it’s a small town and jobs are probably limited but you kids should quit, you don’t deserve to be spoken to & treated like that.

A fun burger/slider joint. Burgers are cooked with onions. Not for the health conscience. Seat yourself and enjoy a greasy burger

AVOID. Unless you enjoy being barked at before noon. I’m going to agree with all of the other reviewers on the rudeness of the owner of this place. Unbelievable. Stopped in for breakfast on our way back from Pt. Sanilac and thought we’d give it a try. Bad idea. We were greeted with some big guy yelling about breakfast ending soon among other things. Once we placed our order he began scolding me about cell phone use at the table. I’m 56 for cripes sake! He did the same thing to another couple that walked in behind us. Unreal. Still not sure why we didn’t walk out. the food was incredibly unspectacular. Save your money, there’s better, and much less rude, places nearby. Never again.

The most rudest owners you will ever meet at a burger restraunt! Never ever will go back the burgers are so paper thin you can’t even taste the meat horrible horrible place. The owner and the owners brother are very rude and disrespectful to their customers yelling to stop and not sit first and I’m not exaggerating they literally will yell so loud at you makes you want to leave so uncomfortable very rude when talking to customers also. I myself own a small takeout and I know how a customer should be treated!!! And I would never treat them the way they treat theirs I guess the owners don’t understand that the reason their business is open is because of there customers we’ll looks like their loosing more and more do to their lack of kindness. Never ever go to this place!!!

This is a charming hole-in-the-wall joint where the service is friendly and the burgers are greasy. We come here in big groups and they have always accommodated my rowdy family.

I thought I would give it one more shot after my last review nearly 2 years ago. DONOTGO! The people running the place are beyond rude. The guy literally yells. Service is mediocre at best and food is just average. Not even a cute atmosphere and the tension sure doesn’t help. Save your money!

whimpy’s is to burgers is what coney island is to hotdogs. it’s sloppy and greasy, good but turrible! never order anything but burgers and fries. no free refills on soda, and it looks cheap but you end up paying 6 – 8 $. all the waiters are really weird and rude, but sloppy and fun and it’s a very interesting place if you’re into that sort of thing.

This place is awesome! Spent my summers in Lexington since I was 5 years old. I remember going for burgers every week! The service is great and so are the burgers!!!

I’m going to have to disagree with the majority of the reviews here. Maybe it was because it was an off-time — about 2:00 on a Thursday afternoon in early September, but Wimpy’s Place was exactly what I was looking for: a little local diner-like place. While I had the feeling that it was supposed to be a burger joint(thus the name of the Popeye character), I opted for the salmon burger. It was NOT fried which was a plus, and it was thick with chunks of salmon and nicely grilled. Very tasty and just what I was looking for. I also had onion rings, which I noticed came right out of a bag. But, I thought they were also tasty, albeit a bit overpriced. I didn’t ask for a refill on my iced tea, but at $ 1.69, I wasn’t terribly surprised that they didn’t offer free refills; most places that do charge upwards of $ 2 these days. There were only 2 young boys running the grill, mostly talking to each other about some inane show that was playing on the tv. But while I was there, a local regular came in and the boys were chatting with her — it was quite amusing and just the small town dive I was hoping to find. I It was annoying that they only take cash, though; I don’t carry a lot of cash on me, so that was a bit shocking. Still, I was generally pleased so I gave the kid a couple bucks more than the bill. He seemed genuinely surprised at that and tried twice to give me change!

I grew up with a cottage in Lexington, and I have great memories of my dad, brother and I spending time at Wimpy’s. Now I’m all grown up and my husband and I spent a weekend in Lexington this summer. I could not wait to go to Wimpy’s! You know how your memories of things as a kid are sometimes totally different of how things actually were? That was the case here. The owner(Jim?) treated his young staff so horrible, it actually made me uncomfortable. I also witnessed him treating a patron equally horrible, the poor guy was just trying to make small talk. Oh, and no refills… I’m not used to that. However, drinks were still what you’d expect to pay at a place with unlimited refills. And the cash only was pretty annoying, but they conveniently have an ATM! The only reason I gave stars was because of my fond memories and because the food was good. I would say there were more cons than pros though.

It was supposedly a great cool burger joint… So I thought. Very rude people(except for the young bussboy) mixed with mediocre tiny burgers at a high price sure doesn’t help to make it «great» or «cool» — once is enough for me. Oh, and I’m getting sick of these cash only restaurants. Suck it up and pay the 2.5% and accept credit cards. It’s not 1975 anymore

Wimpy’s is just the plae you’d hope to find after a day out at the Lexington beach. It has amazing salmon burgers that are all of the greasy burger you’ll ever need with just a little bit of sass. The fries are great too– very understated. You can either eat indoors to catch the feel of a 50’s diner or go out to their comfy patio in the back to feel the breeze. I will definitely make this a landmark stop on my trips to Lexington. It just doesn’t feel like a day at the beach now without it!

Low rating based on the poor level of «service» provided by the managers/owners, dining in price/food ratio and payment options. First, the wife and I travel to the thumb regularly to visit a family owned cottage and we’ve heard about Wimpy’s quite a bit. We’re always down for a good burger and we attempted to eat here a year ago, but we were rudely turned away by a blonde woman who I am assuming is a manger or owner. With one foot in the door, she barked at us to stop moving because there were no seats and we’d have to wait outside. Ok, I guess she’s just having a bad day. My wife went to see if there was a carry out menu and she was again barked at by this woman and told that they didn’t have any carry our menus and we should either stay outside or get out, so we got out. Why do places not want to take my money? Seriously, way to be rude to a potential customer that is willing to throw money at you. For some reason, we stopped in yesterday for a second chance and while busy, there were places to sit, and again, we barely set our feet inside the door and a man waved his finger at us and rudely told us that we need to sit still and wait to be seated. The same blonde woman that snapped at us last time grabbed some menus and yelled over to us that breakfast is over, and they’re only serving lunch… which is fine, because that’s why we were there, but she was just so rude about it. Not even a simple«Hi, how are you?». Nope, «We’re not serving breakfast anymore, you can only have lunch». Nice people here… While we were waiting for our food, the same man that gave us the stink eye was being an ass and running his server and busing staff like they were slaves. If I were one of those kids, I would have quit on the spot and told him where to shove it. Our server was fine, but the food was not. The burgers are just a little bigger than a slider(say, slider and a half), they’re extremely greasy and over-priced. $ 1.99 for a large slider is robbery, the pop is $ 2.00 an order, there are no free refills(I thought only Chinese places practiced that any more…) and, get this, they don’t accept credit cards. News flash: It’s 2012, get on with the times here people, who doesn’t take credit cards? I hope they don’t plan to stay in business much longer… Don’t tell me that being in the thumb is any different than being in the Metro Detroit area. Wimpy’s is the first place that I’ve been to in quite a few years that doesn’t accept plastic. Additionally, bag in the box soda is cheap, and apparently, so are the folks that run Wimpy’s. They should be getting about 35010oz pours at a cost to them of UNDER $ 0.50/pour and the box shouldn’t cost them any more than $ 50. Do the math. So, for three of us to eat one dinky grease ball cheese burger each, share two orders of small portion onion rings, two pops(we didn’t get any refills) and a water, it was just over $ 16.00. I guess you could look at that and say it’s not bad for three people, but the overall experience was horrible and it’s just not enough food for the cost. And I do not consider grease to be a part of my meal. The owners are RUDE to their customer and RUDE to their waitstaff. I can not recommend this place to anyone simply based on the way that they treat their paying customers; absolutely uncalled for, and completely unprofessional. You should be ashamed of yourselves for acting the way you do. Get a credit card machine, offer free refills and go observe how every other restaurant in the world treats it’s staff and paying customer. If they don’t, I’ll be surprised if this joint survives until next summer. Our burger craving will be satisfied by A & W from now on. At least they treat the paying public with some degree of common courtesy.

Everyone in the Thumb raves about this place… I cannot find ONE reason why! $ 2.29 for a cheese burger, I have no problem paying that much for a cheese burger, but I do have a problem paying that much when it is the same size as a slider. The burger itself was greasy, paper thin, and didn’t even cover the wonderbread bun it came on! $ 2.99 onion rings… a plate with literally 7 tiny bite size frozen onion rings. For what we paid, it was not a great value. Soda drinkers beware, there are NOFREEREFILLS! Manager(s)/Owner(s) are RUDE! Both times we went in this place we were never welcomed, we were rudely barked at saying we couldn’t sit right away and they were no longer serving breakfast. What happened to hello?! Plus, the way they treated their young staff was appalling. Dogs are treated better than those poor kids. Hours are set to almost guarantee they will not make money. Close at 7 on a Friday and Saturday!!! You close, just as everyone is getting to their cottage/into town and wants to eat… and you are closed! Cash only… no plastic… which is silly since they over price their food. Just stay away… you are better off supporting the town by going to A&W, getting your moneys worth and having great service! Better yet, hit up the Knights of Columbus Fish Fry on Fridays!

The burgers are the draw here — I prefer them with cheese, onions and pickles. At the very least, you should get them with the onions as that’s part of the cooking process. They drop a handful of raw onions on the grill and then smash a ball of ground beef down on top of the onion pile. Greasy? Of course, but that’s the point — think of them as oversized sliders. The best deal, IMO is the bag of six to go. Most anyone can eat at least two of these and three to four is no big deal for a big eater. I’ve tried a few other things on the menu, but stick with the basics. If you eat in and order fries, sodas, etc. then the bill gets a bit pricey for what you are getting. They also offer breakfast fare.

I would NOT advise anyone to patronize this place due to the rude, unkind, completely classless behavior of the owner. From his station behind the cash register in this tiny diner, the owner acts all«chummy» and chatty with patrons but then rudely barks orders at his young waitstaff, to the point of being disrespectful and mean. Add to this the fact that the burgers are soak-the-bun greasy. Some people might like that, but to my tastebuds, the meal was worse than the food I’d had at my previous«Worst Dining Experience» spot: a truck-stop diner off the Pennsylvania turnpike. Mostly, though, it was the owner’s behavior that made me lose my appetite, and I ate only half of my small burger before getting out of the restaurant as quickly as possible.

Looking for some greasy burgers? This is your place! If not, don’t be a whimp; instead, you should opt for that double cheeseburger but make sure you have an ambulance waiting outside. Dive-like joint, impatient staff, unique hamburgers, and long lines are what you should expect when visiting Wimpy’s. Pricing isn’t horrible for a more seasonal place in the seasonal little town of Lexington. My biggest gripe: the milk shake blender was broken. On a Saturday. During Memorial Day weekend. READ = EPICFAIL. I was dying for a chocolate shake all morning, anticipating walking in and grabbing one while the ladies were window shopping. Instead I left empty handed. Had I never been here before in the past I would have given them a one star, but at least prior experiences have been decent. Long story short, if you are in Lexington this place is definitely worthy of a visit. Oh and BRINGCASHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH! No CC’s accepted here.

My favorite burger place on Earth… and probably the universe. I’ve been coming here since I was a small, small, kid with a great metabolism. Now that my metabolism has caught up with me, I often throw caution to the wind and gorge on some Wimpy burgers. The place is very small, and sometimes you have to wait to get a spot, but it’s worth it. The atmosphere is great, kind of a family thing with the owner palling around with the customers and staff. The burgers are amazing. Not really sliders, but not really full burgers. I can usually do about 2 or three. Fries are decent, nothing special. Lexington over the past 10 years seems to be shifting from a quaint port town to an uppity shopping villa for the rich people who own condos. It’s good to see that Wimpy’s Place is still Wimpy’s Place. Whenever I’m in a 50 mile radius of Wimpy’s, I always find an excuse to go.
