Newman’s Pub N Grub

Large portions. Fast service. Play darts or shoot pool while you are there. After 10 the kitchen is closed and on weekends the music begins to play. Three TV set show sports. Food great tasting. Typical pub fare. Order the «pep sticks» for an unusual pizza.

After dropping over $ 50 on beer, appetizers, two entrees AND a pizza, the charismatic owner of Newman’s Pub & Grub in Lexington informed us that we «couldn’t just drink water all night». Keep in mind we were there to watch the band, and we were enjoying them while digesting and hydrating. My sister-​in-​law and wife were, indeed, drinking water at the moment, but this was after a few rounds of beer, and I had a Red Bull (which I paid as much as a beer for), also after a few rounds. They might have had just waters in front of them for MAYBE 10 minutes, but we had a long drive back to Port Huron ahead of us and were pacing ourselves. When I explained that, and that we had just dropped a ton of loot on food, he still insisted that he was «turning people away at the door», which was an outright lie that many folks attested to, and still said we could «leave if we didn’t like it». I put my coat on and start tying my shoe, telling him we’ll leave…
…that’s when the guy pulled the barstool out from under me.
That joint is a joke, and there’s a circle in Hell reserved for the guys that’s running it.

I gave this place 2 stars, because it does serve breakfast. It was convenient to the cottage I was staying at so we ate here for dinner and breakfast over the weekend. The food is mediocre, but better than normal bar food, however the Philly steak and cheese was a bit burned. The service is why this received so little. Regardless of if this is a small town place or a local hang out, the servers were not very efficient or friendly. They never asked to refill our coffee, water, or pop. They walk away before making sure anyone has another request, therefore making them have to make several trips when we all had requests. If she would have waited 5 seconds she could have gotten all the requests for extras, refills, or whatever in one shot.
The breakfast server was the only server there, however, same type of service, different server. My friend was in the bathroom when her food came, the server asked who’s it was, I told her, and she put it in the middle of the table rather than at her place setting. She also never offered refills. The place is reasonably priced and the food is OK. I’d gather you’d have to be a local here in order to get any kind of good service.
