Best falafel I’ve ever had! Me and the hubby wanted to try something new. We always go to Mr. Kabab but heard of this place and just decided to go. I’m not a fan of the location b/​c the traffic is crazy but I have to say it was worth it. Got grilled chicken and hummus, lentil soup and falafel. All of it was perfect.

Two words describes this gem.

I have eaten here for years and years and nothing like it.

The best hummus I’ve ever had. We get a container to go about once a week. The food is great, prices affordable.

PERFECTION IN THE DESERT
Lexington is usually a culinary wasteland — lot’s of processed food, southern comfort food-​like substances that’ll put you in the hospital and generally thick, butter coated heavy meals with little to no nutritional value. AND THEN THERE IS SAHARA…
Somebody rescued this city when they opened Sahara. I think we owe the Armenians who work there… we owe them our very lives.
Clean food, take-​away options, incredible spicing and food preparation. Always fresh. Always a line out the door. And I always eat my entire plate… meaning that it’s real food cooked by real people with no retention or markup. I am elated.

The best Mediterranean food in the country! We have been to this place numerous times, with or without any special occasion. Still we devour their food every time we visit. Their Sahara Chicken, Lamb Kufta Kebab, Chicken Shawarma, Falafel along with the super delicious Garlic Sauce are undoubtedly the best in the country. These are beyond comparisons, beyond descriptions I would rather say! The Sahara Chicken is their specialty. Its so juicy, so tender, you would crave for more. Then there is mindblowing Lamb Kufta Kebab. Also the extremely tender and tasty Chicken Shawarma. Even the Falafels! Every item on the list is so so so amazing! The price is surprisingly cheap! All served with a salad of your choice, Hummas, seasoned rice, Pita bread and garlic sauce. All the salads are great, Cucumber Yogurt is our favorite though. Even the rice is so tasty too! Their garlic sauce is the signature, you won’t get that anywhere else and that’s a knockout! We love spicy food, hence while ordering we always mentioned the spice level as 8 out of 10. Here whatever you order, you will be rewarded with a heavenly food. We have tried Mediterranean food almost everywhere we went, but nothing came as close as Sahara! Their service is pretty fast even if there is a huge crowd, specially on Saturdays. Seating available inside and outside. Sahara truly lives upto their title of a Kentucky Proud Restaurant. Once you have their food, you won’t forget that in your lifetime! Happy eating!

This is my second time visiting the place. Although, I come here few times a year for the past several years, usually it is too late to dine in this place. One time comes early enough before they close, but some of the good stuff already finish.
Today, I was able to visit and enjoy this place for lunch. They serve all meals in the menu during lunch time. Their lunch special with the protein you can choose definitely best seller. Customers get to line up for lunch — it’s worth the wait (not very long wait).
I decided to try the GOAT chops today — YES goat chops. Buoy… I was surprised when biting the chop. I was expecting a bit tough but in the contrary super tender. I don’t need knife for it; fork and off course fingers will do. For those need knife, the plastic knife they provide will be more than enough to help devour those pieces.
I attached pictures of my meal — judge yourself. But I warn you pictures might not enough to describe how good it is. YOU need to try.
Service — although this is a semi fast food restaurant with pretty good size to dine in and very busy during my visit. They provide good service and patient to explain. They even spend time to check in their meat department if they have those chops for me.
Overall, I was very satisfied and definitely will go back when there is opportunity to visit while in the area next time.

My husband and I decided to try this restaurant on Saturday and we loved the food so much we are taking friends and going back today (Monday). My husband had the falafel lunch and I had a bowl of the lentil soup which was outrageously delicious! I also got a chicken schwarma sandwich which was scrumptious and huge. I had to take most of it home. My husband had the most delicious plate lunch. He really loved the salad and hummus. We were lucky to get there early at 11 because by 11:30 there was a line out the door.

Mediterranean is by far my preferred choice of food. This place is good but compared to Oasis & Mr. Kabab its second choice. The lunch is inexpensive and styled much the same. Located in the heart of Beaumont Centre

The humus is probably the best in town, if not all of Kentucky.

Ok our friend brought us Sahara’s carry out and it was AMAZING. We shared the zaki platter with a side of hummus, tabouli, pita bead, & garlic sauce. OMG don’t even get me started on the garlic. incredible. Period. I cannot wait to take my mom here when she is back in town to visit.

We came here last Saturday for quick food. Thankfully, there wasn’t a line. Ordered lamb kebab and sides hummus and Tabbouli. Tabbouli and hummus was great. And our lamb was perfect. Really enjoyed our food and it’s really value for money with Lots of flavor. Will be back again:)))

Bang up spot. My wife and I love to stop for lunch when we are in town. I’ve really not tried anything I don’t like. The place is always super busy at lunch, but you can’t beat the price of the lunch special. The falafels are my absolute favorite.

The best Mediterranean place in town, hands down! Come here and enjoy their food. Everything is so fresh and prepared in front of you. The staff is super friendly and the restaurant gets very busy very quickly. Come early if you want to get some lunch otherwise you will be waiting in a long awaited line.

We went here on a recommendation after complaining how much we missed good middle eastern food when we moved here from the Northeast. I was worried that nothing would compare with all of the amazing restaurant options I was used to, but I shouldn’t have been worried at all. Sahara is hands down some of the best middle eastern I’ve ever had.
As soon as we parked our car and saw the line spilling out the door I knew we were in for a treat. Things got better when I saw the heaps of fresh veggies and meats in front of everyone dining.
We’ve eaten here multiple times since that first visit and the food is always amazing. Yes, they do run out of items sometimes on busy days since the meat is slow roasted on spits, but I look at it as a way to try new items. (Like the lamb kufta which is superb!) Every item is amazing and I’m looking forward to making my way through the delicious menu.

I have yet to have Chicken that tastes this good. I usually order the Chicken Shawarma over hummus, sometimes rice. Salad on the side are a good idea (fiber to help digest proteins). That being said, the chicken quantity in Lunch ($ 7.50) menu is very generous, enough for me. I couldn’t finish the dinner plate myself. Spices and onions on top complete the Mediterranean feel of the plate. Every Friday lunch time you’ll find me queuing here for more. Highly recommended! :)
Side tip: Ask for spicy chicken when you get any Chicken plate, they’ll ask you how spicy you like, so it could really fit anyone’s taste.

So much authentic & delicious food for such a great price. I had the chicken/​beef lunch special. The meat, salad, hummus, and rice were incredible. Their tzatski sauce put it all over the top. I arrived shortly after they opened, but there was a line out of the door by the time I ordered– come early or at non lunch/​dinner times or expect to wait for a seat or carry out

The schwarma here, like many before me have said, is amazing! I got the lunch special with the chicken schwarma, cucumber and tomato salad (as a substitute for the Greek salad), hummus, and pita bread. And all for less than $ 8! It’s a lot of delicious food that is pretty guilt free. Just do yourself a favor and go to Sahara for lunch.

The line out the door, people standing in the cold for 30+ mins says it all. Best Mediterranean in Lexington. Prepare to wait. But it’s well worth it. Also the staff are wonderful! I’m already craving it!

It was two years ago that i discovered this place. My mother was flying in to Bluegrass Airport, and on landing she was ravenously hungry. Unilocal told me that this place was about ten minutes away and I decided to check it out. We tried the lunch platter; a quarter of a chicken, rice, salad, hummus and pita. Mother was pleased, and still talks about this place.
We’ve been back several times. Every time we have the lunch platter. And every time we leave satisfied.
Bottom line: The best sub-​$ 8 meal for fifty miles around.

I ordered the Sahara Chicken lunch plate. Lots of food and very good. The chicken is moist and fall off the bone good!
