Best. Bread. In Lexington! We love their 8-grain and their Sourdough loaves and I make a point to stop in every Thursday or Friday morning to get us set for the weekend. They are so nice that they will sell a half loaf when fewer of us are around for the weekend. My son also loves their cookies and Sandwich of the Day. Sunrise also buys local!

Hands down, one of my favorite places in Lexington. My favorites are the HUGE cheese Danish, salt bagels, sandwiches, and croissants, but really, you can’t go wrong with anything here. The owners are incredibly nice and friendly. Just remember to bring cash!

I walked in with just a credit card and an empty belly and then learned that they only take cash. I was just about to leave(disappointed) but the lady told me she would allow me to send them a check once I got back home to California. I was stunned and extremely grateful. My ham and cheese sandwich was tasty(a tad dry and light on filling) but my enjoyment was greatly enhanced by their kindness. I mailed in my check after I had posted a photo of their establishment on Facebook and urged my friends to go there if they ever visit Kentucky.

I can’t say enough good things about Sunrise. I look forward to the end of the week when I know I can get a sandwich from here. Everyone who works there is so nice and welcoming. I recommend the sandwich of the day, they always have great toppings especially the caciacavallo cheese.

Hands down best cheese Danish I ever eaten. The service was great and the barista made me a fresh pot of decaf coffee and brought it out to my table. This place only takes cash, but I did not see a problem with that. I cannot wait to bring my husband and son here for breakfast.

The positives: Great sandwiches… and they are huuuuuuuuuuge. Great meats, fantastically stupid good bread and all in all, a fantastic lunch spot in Lexington. You walk in, you get lunch and you go about your day. It’s definitely one of those places people forget about downtown, and that’s unfortunate. I really like eating here and should go more often… seriously. The negatives: cash only, and I’ve not been a fan of the coffee. I also wish they had other side items. That’s the weird thing… its forgetful. I mean, I walk by it every single day, and I rarely ever go. Probably because I never carry cash, but… I don’t know. I just don’t have anything really drawing me in. I loved their sandwiches, but for the price they want, I can get other great sandwiches and a bag of chips for the same price, if not cheaper.

Amazing sandwiches. Fresh, homemade sandwiches. The bread and ingredients are top notch. I have been twice and got the special both times. The vibe of the girl behind the counter is infectious. You can tell she loved her job. She even remembered me and it was only my second time there. Makes you feel special. Awesome downtown hole in the wall. Go. Don’t wonder. Just go. Cash only! And only open Thursday– Saturday :( Guess it’s worth waiting the first part of the week for :) And the cheese Danish was amazeballs!

Best bakery in Lexington ! This is one place that we should congratulate them for their courageous act of flexibility ! If it was not for their wonderful, bakery, bread, mouth watering sandwiches, they would have closed their doors long time ago. Their bakery shop is surrounded by constructions, and yes they are across from«THEBIGHOLE«OR CentrePointe !! They played the good citizen because they thought the project will be helpful to Lexington KY. I suggest everyone just like me to go out of your way, and walk to their shop and support them, because they are simply wonderful and kind shop owners ! I walk for 20 minutes to go to their bakery shop so I can have the most amazing Bagel ever baked !! Best wishes to them !!

Just moved back to Lexington and could not wait to get back to Sunrise Bakery! This place always inspires me with their amazing food and there is a special vibe there– a lovely family runs it and they are passionate about what they do. This morning we got several things to share and tried a biscuit sandwich that had shaved prosciutto and parmesan-it was incredible! And I’m glad to see that the cheese danish was as delicious as I’d remembered. I think their polenta shortbread and cinnamon rolls are the best I’ve ever had when you are looking for a real treat. Great sandwiches and coffee too! Wish they were open every day but it makes it a special weekend experience to catch them between Thur-Saturdays now.

I love this place. The espresso is served woth a peel of lemon like Ive had in Spain. The pastries are authentic in taste. Perhaps I’m spoiled having been born and raised in New York or having a brother innlaw who’s a pastry chrf. In any case Sunrise Bakery definitely surpasses my expectations when I stop in. When I first moved here I was looking for local items to send back home. I went into sunrise bakery right before easter and found a marzipan lamb. Which received rave reviews from my Dad who loves loves loves anything marzipan. My Mom thought it was too pretty to eat lol. I’ve tried the canollis that rival any bakery in little Italy. In a nutshell you won’t be disappointed with anything ypu try there! I love the fact that its family owned and they take great pride from generation to generation. Reasonably priced as well it doesn’t get any better! Beware CASH only so bring plenty with you as you won’t walk out empty handed. :)

Lovely lady took pity on my son and I as we trekked through the Lex Snowmagedon! She was closed(as were most of the restaurants they bake for) and we left with some of the finest bread we’ve had! Definitely will be back!

I have not had better bread anywhere including all over Europe. As a matter of fact this is one of the few places you can get European style /quality bread around here. In Europe(all over Europe) you have bakery on just about every street corner. You can stop in first thing in the morning and buy fresh baked crusty hard breads that are worth of poetry writing. Sunrise does a superb job of bringing those flavors and textures right home here to Lexington. I had the old world sandwich and opted for sopressata & caciacavallo cheese on baguette. It was like a brief return to a deli in Paris. My next trip I want to try their«just make me a sandwich» offering to see what they dream up for me. I took home a baguette, and was able to enjoy my little taste of Europe for a couple day longer! I cannot wait to go back!

Sunrise Bakery is the real deal. It’s a genuine, family-owned & family-run business, something the US is running dangerously low on in this day of Atlanta Bread/Panera/whatever. The salt bagels, with their giant crystals atop the perfectly baked chewy goodness are best enjoyed fresh out of the oven. If you pair this with a cup of coffee, you’re in my version of breakfast heaven. ask for a «deuce and a juice»(coffee and two salt bagels). The sandwiches are beautiful, fresh-picked meats on their own bread. Yes, they can be slow here when it comes to service but that’s because they take the time to get to know you. Appear more than a few times and you’ll be a regular in no time.

I really like Sunrise for pastries. They have little red, white, and green cakes with raspberry jam in them, I think, and they’re wonderful. I also love the pain au chocolat and the salt bagels are pretty good. Their turkey sandwich with mozzarella and oregano is wonderful. The one thing I avoid here is their espresso drinks. I’ve tried several lattes from here and they never tasted that good, they almost tasted like they were made with old coffee. Every pastry I’ve tried here has been great, though.

We recently moved to Lexington and have been trying out many local bakeries, coffee shops, etc. Sunrise is absolutely my favorite. The staff were incredibly friendly, everything we tasted(cinnamon roll, biscuit sandwich, salt bagel, various cookies, and French bread) was delicious and prices were reasonable. I look forward to becoming a «regular» at this wonderful bakery.

BEST. PASTRIESANDSANDWICHES. EVER. I know they are not open very often(since they are committed to their wholesale industry and maintaining a family centered work force), but if you get a chance to stop by, for breakfast especially, get a salt bagel. Or a chocolate croissant. Or just get any(or all) of the cookies. You won’t be sorry. But bring cash!

If you get a chance to check it out when they are open, you won’t be disappointed. I had the special and it was amazingly fresh and delicious. My favorite part about Sunrise is the ‘Just make me a sandwich’ menu option. Great atmosphere for a downtown lunch spot. Must try! I’ve been noticing that a lot of places downtown proudly serve bread baked by Sunrise. Beware, cash only! I was kind of disappointed with that especially since Square is widely used elsewhere.
