Webster’s Engine Alley

We took our car to Webster’s. We had a lot of work done to find a noise at other repair shops with no luck. The serpentine belt had been changed 3 times. We asked for an estimate if he could find the problem. The owner came to the waiting room and talked to us. He said he was almost 100% sure it was the belt. He said some cars require a heavier belt. The cost of the belt was $ 30. He said he would do it for $ 40. He put another belt on our car and left to bring our car around. The lady said it would be $ 80. My husband paid and we left. When we got in the car we discussed the increase in the estimate. We went back in and asked why he told us $ 40 and then all of a sudden it was $ 80. The girl up front said we can’t do anything because I have already run it through. The owner said he was sorry because he thought we knew he charged $ 80 an hour plus you have to pay a $ 10 shop fee for what I don’t know. We knew how to put the serpentine belt on so it would have saved us $ 50 if he had made it clear the total price before he fixed the car. He did remind us that he gave us 10% off for being a new customer. I would suggest you get the TOTAL estimate on paper before you let him touch your car. We won’t be back because we tend to stay away from places that aren’t truthful and upfront.
