We had a very poor experience on June 25th at Jimmy’s. We booked the party room for our soccer team that was in town for US Nationals. Every year we do a team dinner and have had such a wonderful time. When I contacted them to book the room I was very clear that our group needed to be able to pay by family. We have done this multiple times, no issues. We were told that it wouldn’t be a problem. We would bill under each player. Great. As it was discussed and explained, I was assured there would not be an issue. When making the reservation this was the first question I asked and we only booked this location based on the assurance we could pay as families, but the team members could sit together. The day of the reservation, when we arrived it was clear there was going to be a problem immediately. First they called at 6:45 to see where we were since we were late. The reservation was always for 7. Then we arrived and they wanted us to sit by families at tables and said each table would get a bill. This was NOT what was discussed. After a brief discussion, we understood that it was figured out. We offered suggestions but were immediately told that is not how they could do it. It was apparent that the staff was not able to handle our request. We had 60 in our group and there were three servers. A young lady, a man and a middle age woman. Immediately the woman was incredibly rude to us. At no point was she friendly or welcoming. She was short with us, cursed at a parent, and said«I don’t have time for this.» on more than one instance. The poor young woman was apologetic and the man was very polite. However, the older woman was short, rude, and condescending to multiple people over multiple tables. Several people complained to me about this afterwards. It was the worst behavior ever displayed by a server in any restaurant I have ever witnessed. When it came time to do the bill, we wait over an hour to discover the staff had no idea what they were doing. Parents were getting very upset and finally it was determinded they were going to bill by table. Despite my specific request at booking and previous discussions, despite several offers to help organize the bills and orders with the staff, they insisted it be done this way. One parent paid for our entire table. I personally paid for another. Another parent paid for yet another table, and one table split. Then we spent the next 48 hours trying to decipher who owed who money, writing checks to each other, and overall lamenting about the horrible way the situation was handled and the terrible service we received. At this point, there are 4 full entrees that are unaccounted for that we believe our group was double charged for, all steaks at $ 19 each. We were offered a 20% discount for the hassle, but not after we were told we would be offered gift certificates! We live over 9 hours from the restaurant and would never have an opportunity to use worthless gift certificates. Gratuity was added on, of course, although I wish the young woman and man could have split it because the third server was not deserving of a single tip due to her outlandish behavior. The food was ok — — that’s probably why half of you are reading the reviews anyway. Some of us liked our food a lot, some thought it was terrible. Overall the vegetables were very undercooked, basically raw. Some people got roast beef or prime rib instead of sirloin steak, without explanation. We were charged for refills for the teammates and children and never told that refills were additional and it was not listed on the limited menus we were presented at the tables. I wish I could give this restaurant a ZERO for how horrible the experience was. It will be talked about amongst our team for years to come. Lastly, our team is able to walk into random restaurants nearly every weekend as a group, be sat, waited on and be able to pay for our families individually. For an «upscale dining experience» you should be ashamed at your service and lack of basic understanding of splitting a bill.

Good food, if you’re dining in. If you’re ordering to go– DON’T GOBYTHEIRWEBSITEPRICES. I’ve been going here for years– and in the last year, have been overcharged EVERY time I’ve ordered by phone, based on prices on their website. I’ve heard excuses every time– 1. The lunch menu is priced differently than the dinner menu(same items) 2. The recurring one– they haven’t «updated«the website. I was shocked to find that my last order was over 55.00, for 3 entrees– when, according to the website(after 6 months of «it hasn’t been updated yet») — it should have been 12.95, per entrée. And nobody has EVER offered to adjust it. It was-«Sorry– the website hasn’t been updated» I thought legitimate businesses respected their customers, and honored their WORD?

I’ve been to Jimmy’s a few times and every time the experience has been great. You get a lot for your money.

In town on business, and ended up a Jimmy’s for dinner. Ate at the bar and service was definitely sub par. After I was served my first beer, female bartender took off and left the bar. Wasn’t able to order my food or even looked at by a server for about 30 minutes. Greek Chops I ordered were good, flavorful and well cooked. Veggies that came with the meal were seriously inedible. Seemed like they’d been cooked hours before. I guess I’d go back, however, because it’s still pretty decent value for the dollar.

I work at a hotel near here and I’m always sending guests because they give our guests a discount– everyone that comes back thanks me for recommending them and says they really enjoyed their meal. I had to go and see what all the hype was about, so my boyfriend and I came here for a late lunch. We were seated right away and they gave us glasses of water immediately, which is a very nice touch. The waitress was very patient, as I took forever to decide– everything sounded so good! I finally decided on the NY strip steak and my boyfriend got a filet mignon. Our meals came with either French fries, mashed potatoes, garlic mashed potatoes, or rice pilaf and a choice of soup or salad. I got the French onion soup, which was AMAZING. Best French onion soup I’ve ever had. My boyfriend got the salad, which was average. He wished he ordered the soup instead, once he tried a bite of mine. The complimentary bread they gave us was fantastic. I’d go back for the bread and soup alone, honestly, but the steak… It was TODIEFOR. Definitely recommend coming here if you’re in the area. Prices aren’t too outrageous– definitely worth it.

Ate at the Elgin one yesterday. Had a 16OZ Rib eye. The steak was one of the best ones I have EVERHAD! Juicy, tender as any Rib eye will ever get, and DELICIOUS with no Cajun additives or Blackening. it didn’t need any of that. The server, a guy with black hair was PERFECT, knowing just when to stop by and ask if we needed anything without over doing it. a five on the 5 scale, and a ten on the 10 scale!

I love Jimmys for the service and quality of food. Everything they serve is fresh and made in house; salad dressings are old world recipies and if you are a non meat eater steer clear as they contain fish. This place is always spotless clean; best service possible with caring folks. Food portions are massive and again; it’s all fresh and made in house. Went with a date tonight and received the best possible service and food plus drinks. We will definitely return for dinner!

Hosted a private party for 25. Staff was fantastic. Food was delicious. They gave us a menu with 3 options(for our large party) which we selected: beef, chicken and fish. We got rave reviews of all 3 options from our guests. Plus desserts were amazing. Parking was abundant. Couldn’t be happier!

Definitely worth a try! It was my first time to try this place and I was a happy camper after a very filling and delicious meal. I got to the place a few minutes later than my reservation so my friend and I looked for seats at the bar while we wait for our table. We ended up having dinner at the bar since we kept seeing and smelling the dishes being served to other customers, we couldn’t wait for a table anymore:) Here is a breakdown of what I’ve tried at Jimmy’s Charhouse: RIBEYESTEAK — the big piece of meat is well seasoned and cooked perfectly. The side of mashed potatoes is heavenly. Comes with a salad and a side. SEAREDSCALLOPS — delicious, even the spinach that came with the scallops were delicious. The scallops were kind of small though but one order comes with 8pcs of scallops. This also comes with your choice of salad and a side. CHEESECAKE — Honestly, I was pleasantly surprised as to how good their home made cheesecake is. Rich, creamy, and the crust is just perfect. They sell a whole cheesecake for $ 50, otherwise, one slice is $ 5. The service is on point, efficient, and friendly… my friend and I did not feel like outsiders even if the servers knew almost everybody who comes in. It looks like it’s one of the go-to place for locals, and I don’t blame them. The food is good and the prices are reasonable. The place has a warm, busy and friendly atmosphere. I did not have the chance to experience dining at the main dining area so I can only speak for having my meal at the bar area(same menu though). I will definitely come back to try their other dishes next time… and I have an instant strong connection with their cheesecake:)

It’s a good solid place for a meal. I can count on this place for later hours than most suburban places. Service and food is good. Here is a tip. If you order a steak, order it 1 less done(is that even correct grammar) than you intend. If you want it medium, get it medium rare. The steaks are served on very hot plates that continue to cook the meat. I forget this every time and end up transferring my steak to the bread dish to stop it from cooking.

This has always been one of my favorite places to go, and throughout the years we’ve always gone here to celebrate special occasions. We decided to have dinner there in September to celebrate my Sons 18th birthday. We had a party of eight, so I made reservations ahead of time. We were sat right away and the service was great. My daughter has severe food allergies, and they were very attentive to our special needs and I was more than satisfied with the way they handled and cared for her food restrictions. At this point this would have been a five star visit for sure, however, our meals were just not good. My immediate family of four all ordered steaks, which have always been great there. I’m not sure what changed but my steak was horrible. My medium rare ribeye, should have been tender and flavorful, but it was tough, and full of gristle and the flavor was not good at all. It was just a junky piece of meat. Overall we had a nice time, with family and friends for my Son’s birthday, and I certainly can’t complain about the service, but we had a pretty hefty bill that evening and our meals weren’t the best unfortunately. We will probably be choosing another venue for future occasions.

How cheap of an owner runs this establishment-they pass the cost of the to go containers on to the guest. Really poor business tactic. I will never visit any of the jimmy’s char houses again

Great atmosphere and food. John is always willing to accommodate you. Had a bone in filet mignon I ordered medium but arrived almost well done. He was quick to rectify the situation. I highly recommend the Mediterranean shrimp with a glass of Oberon Sauvignon Blanc.

I’m not a regular customer, but I would go there now and then for lunch. Sunday took a friend to lunch. I order the southwest salad. I asked for the chicken on the side because it comes out hot and don’t like hot chicken on a salad. I also asked the waiter if they could toss the dressing on the salad. When the salads came the waiter informed me that the kitchen did it this time but will not do it in the future. They only have ONE bowl to toss salads and that is for Caesars. I told him maybe they should invest in another bowl. What ever happened to customer service? I can get a salad anywhere. Won’t be back there.

Wow! Great food. Tasteful ambience and a staff that is well trained and dedicated to providing the best dining experience in central Lake county. The bar staff is the best I have seen in the area! John has meticulously brought together the best staff and food in Libertyville. Don’t miss the incredible $ 5 «Happy Hour» meals only available in the bar.

I’m at Jimmy’s Charhouse at least once a month. The service is always outstanding and the sandwiches are great. Most of the time, our committee meets in the private back room which is also perfect for parties. I love the antique technology that decorate the restaurant such as typewriters, phones and cameras.

LOVE having this spot within 10 min from our place! It is a cute little family owned place that hits the spot when you want good steaks, burgers, sea food and atmosphere. I love the martini’s here, and the drinks are supper reasonably priced, $ 6-$ 10… and they use top shelf. The food here is finger-lickin-good! You can’t go wrong with any of the steaks, or sides, or soups and even their salads are made with home made delicious dressings. The service is A+ and everything comes out with perfect timing. They do have a family meal carry out menu which you can call ahead and they will have ready the same day! If you come here towards a later dinner time(I would say after 830pm on the weekends) be prepared they maybe out of things like prime rib or certain desserts, but like I said this isn’t some big corporate place that has a freezer full of frozen meat. I can’t wait to come back!

I’m going to preface this review by saying that Jimmy’s Char House is not a prime steak house, like Capital Grille or Magnum’s. The top review highlight says that I have to take away a star because it’s in a strip mall. Really, dude? How arrogant and pretentious! The best Thai restaurant in the country in Las Vegas is in a strip mall. Here’s what I say, if you love $ 50 ribeye steaks with $ 10 a’la carte baked potatoes, have at it. That’s not what this place is. You don’t always get what you pay for, but at Jimmy’s I think you get more than you pay for. I’m pretty sure this is a Greek restaurant. The saganaki appetizer gave it away. Jimmy’s Char House delivers a fine dining steak house experience at a value price point, so I’m a fan! The interior is dark and smells delicious with an open kitchen spanning the length of the dining rooms. The styling is American Colonial /Eighties /suburban Gingham Goose. Because it has a high nostalgia and camp factor, I really love it. The servers are in white shirts with black ties and black pants. They are friendly, old school and know how to upsell. A basic entrée will give you some fresh bread and butter, basic soup or salad, protein with veggies and a starch like a baked potato, mashed or rice. These are fine, but I’d stay away from the basic version of most of the stuff. You can get a caesar salad or wedge salad for a couple bucks more. My wedge salad was loaded with bacon and blue cheese and would have been better with a little more dressing on it, but I still ate it! You can get delicious roasted and lightly sauteed mushrooms for a couple bucks more as well. They’ll finish your steak with an Al Forno preparation which consists of breadcrumbs, fontina cheese and garlic for a couple of bucks more as well– this one is highly recommended by me. They also have a horseradish crust for a modest upcharge. I will also rave about the cauliflower mashed potatoes which come in a little gratin pan and are superb for a little extra. Because the entrees are so reasonable, the upcharges can take your meal from uninteresting to sublime, so customize your meal. The strip steak was thick, tasty and lean. The medium rare finish was just a bit over, so I would order a little under what you like. The ribeye was large and juicy. Our server kept my group of three happy and entertained. We shared two desserts: the brownie sundae and chocolate lava cake. I liked my brownie sundae and it was only $ 5. We didn’t try any appetizers, because with the salads or soup, I was plenty full. I like camp. I like charm. I like value. I like steak. Jimmy’s Char House delivers these in spades!
