«Owners Response» by Jeremy Tunney December 22, 2009 Doesn’t like it I have been twice. Once with a client. We ordered salads, it took an hour to get them and they were iceberg lettuce salads. Second time was today soggy bottom on my Reuben, my fiancé’s wrap was cold. Everybody else in the resteraunt was complaining there food was cold. Understaffed again just poor service. Bottom line go somewhere else! June 22, 2012 bruce-auman sent you a message on Urbanspoon: Jeremy, I read your review of my restaurant and have to tell you, no one has ever waited an hour for a salad. Just because you don’t like iceburg lettuce doesn’t mean other people don’t. Im sure also that you are use to getting over done and dried out ruebens in Ligonier. As soon as they invent marble rye that doesn’t absorb juices, I’ll be the first to buy it. Thank you for reviewing my restaurant, but don’t quit your day job. June 23, 2012 Bruce, I would think you would try to convince someone to come back and try your restaurant instead of being a jerk! I have no reason to lie about waiting for a salad. Seriously you want to argue about iceburg lettuce versus romaine or other leafy greens. Most dark greens are good sources of Vitamin C, beta-carotene, iron, calcium, folate, and dietary fiber. The rule of thumb is, usually, the darker the greens, the more nutritious the leaf. Don’t be rude and comment about other restaurants that have nothing to do with this review. If you need a lesson on how to send out a crispy sandwich I will help you. Grill the bread on both sides until crispy and send it out to the table promptly! I don’t even remember what my wife ordered as it was two and a half years ago, but please dont send out cold or under cooked food! I don’t claim to be a professional critic but you my friend are not a chef!!! I thought about coming back and giving you another chance however after your response NEVER. I will be sure to tell everyone I can how rude and arrogant you are.

I am visiting the Ligonier area on business and have enjoyed many restaurants you have suggested such as the Ligonier Tavern and The Bistro Restaurant at the Ramada Hotel. However, I heard mixed reviews on The Colonial Inn Restaurant in Ligonier. Now I know why, this was the worst restaurant I have been to in years. On the company’s website they explain in detail about the fresh ingredients and every item being made to order. However, the shrimp appetizer which was previously frozen shrimp not fresh was extremely over cooked and not fresh. The duck was over cooked and full of fat. I also ordered the strip steak; RARE with the mushroom reduction and it was cooked medium well. The salmon was dry, had no flavor and was also overcooked to a rubber consistency. For the prices of this restaurant I was amazed at the quality of their food and their lack of culinary skills. The«fresh vegetables» were a frozen broccoli, cauliflower, carrot mix. The baked potato was also overcooked wrapped in aluminum foil and covered in oil or butter. I also told the waitress about the quality of our food and she returned it to the kitchen and the«Chef» came out and argued that nothing was wrong with the salmon. He then proceeded to argue with me about the quality of the food and his only apology was«I guess it was under seasoned». They did not offer to adjust our meal nor apologize. For a $ 70 dollar meal this was a complete waste of money. I am surprised they are still in business after the lack of customer service, social skills and food quality. The bathroom was dirty, smelled awful and was out of soap. This restaurant was also categorized as fine dining; I believe that Ligonier Tavern and Longhorn Steakhouse in Greensburg have better food, service and prices.

I was very young, when I first went here and I remember the food as being very good, but watching the deer lick the salt blocks, under spot lights, thrilled me even more. The 35 Ft. lounge overlooks a 3 mile lake with geese, ducks and other wildlife. Clearings provide beautiful views. One of Laurel Highlands finest restaurants, originally built as a roadside shop, in the early 1900s selling gifts and serving only tea. It was converted into a restaurant in the early thirties. In 1947, the Smith family took over this beautiful building. Bruce and Teria Auman bought this historic landmark in May of 2007 and have completely remodeled the interior of the building, taking great care to keep that historic, colonial feel, while modernizing certain aspects of the building. The Colonial Inn’s 35 ft., nonsmoking cocktail lounge is one of the most beautiful bars in the state. Want some privacy? Get the keys to their private dining and cigar bar upstairs. Have a seat in the beautiful leather chairs, sip on a fine cognac, light up a cigar and take in the natural beauty that surrounds you. They have wonderful food and the service is remarkable. They seem to feature duck and I hope that it isn’t because of the lake! They have many soups, salads and entrees and duck just so it did not just land! I love mushrooms and so do they and they know just how to serve them, their cream of mushroom soup is absolutely loaded with flavor and they do not skimp on the crab stuffed mushrooms. Steaks are char grilled, which is just how I like them. They have rack of lamb, a variety of chicken entrees, pork loin and veal dishes. Grilled tuna and a large variety of seafood dishes, like crab stuffed lobster or shrimp. This is a special place to go and for a special occasion. They are well known for their daily specials and their buffets. Check them out: Located 2 miles west of Ligonier on Rt.# 30.
