Solid«A-Ok» rating for me. This particular Saturday it wasn’t over-crowded(end of February, no natural snow ground-cover) so we were able to get a table easily. We sat by the operating fireplace in this remodeled old house, adding to the quaint and cozy atmosphere. I had the cranberry chicken salad on dill bread with fries. It was good but not great. I was hoping for great being homemade and all. I must admit preferring my chicken salad on a croissant. For dessert, my husband and I split a carrot cake. Again, it was good, but not great. And, again, I was expecting great… The meal, service, and atmosphere were A-OK for a stop in downtown Ligonier while taking in all the shops and galleries that the town has to offer.

Romantic Dinner in a Historic Disrict Last month we travel to Greensburg PA for the Baptism of the newest addition to the Family. In the course of the visit, we ventured over to Ligonier for dinner on our last night and chose the Ligonier Tavern. When I lived in the area some 20 + years ago, this was on my list of restaurant to try but never got around it Finally got my chance. Ligonier Tavern sits just west of the square also called Diamond Park which at Christmas time is beautiful with all the lights. The Tavern is in a house built in the later 1800’s and has gone through a series of owners all of which have maintained the elegant Victorian Style. Interior is a whimsical and light but still complimenting the overall style. The heavy use of wood paneling makes for a romantic atmostphere. My wife and I made reservations for dinner at 7:00 and we were promptly seated upon arrival. That said, we probably did not need the reservations because being a Sunday evening in late fall or early winter, there were not to many other patrons that night. Interesting menu that offers something for everyone but a bit ecclectic and innovative at the same time. I ordered the Meatloaf Sandwich with Mashed Potatoes as the side. Different and iinteresting flavors with both and it appears that the Chef has taken creative license with his fare with very good results. As my wife, she had a Chicken Salad Platter that was also different but delicous as well. Good use of flavors and textures coupled with excellent plating made for a delightful evening. The service was excellent. We did not want for anything and the servers were both attentive but not the point where they were intrusive. Excellent dining experience and we will be back on our next trip to the area.

Great atmosphere and a great menu. However, the execution of the food and some ingredients did not seem to be on par with the cost. My kids each ordered the steak and fries for $ 8 which is not much but the steak tips were very tough to the point that my kids had trouble chewing them. I confirmed this with my own bite as well. The lobster salad was excellent, the Santa Fe chicken soup was good too. But, the steak was not prepared well or was a low quality meat and was barely edible.

Husband and I(Washigton, DC natives) were in Ligonier for our anniversary. We had a very lovely dinner at Ligonier Tavern. It’s a little pricier than other spots in that area, but worth it for a night out. There was enough separation between the bar and the Dining room that the noise didn’t bother us(there was a game on), our server was very friendly and attentive, and the food was very good. The diverse beer list impressed us. Definitely a place we will re-visit next time we are visiting Ligonier.

I was enjoying an excellent meal but mistakenly seated myself too close to bar and was offended by the loud ‘unfiltered’ vocabulary of the bar patrons. It ruined the meal for me. The manager, was responded quickly and did his best to encourage those expressing their free speech rights to tone it down. If want delicous food, go here-but don’t be seated by the bar.

After receiving a nice response and explanation from the owner, I am revising my review to two stars. I do believe that our experience that evening was an isolated incident. We will try the restaurant out again next year when we pass through town again. I’ll be sure to update again then.

Not really able to accommodate gluten free. Proudly and confidently said they could accommodate when we checked in but waitress was not as confident about this — appreciated her honesty. Neat place inside and nice menu but just don’t recommend if you have a true gluten allergy

Spent the day in Ligonier walking around the shops and worked up an appetite. We stopped here for the some drinks and appetizers. Everything came out as expected. The risotto stuffed cheese balls were nothing short of amazing and the artichoke dip was ok. It would have been better with spinach in it. The pita chips were simple but tasted fantastic. Our waitress Nikki was very kind and fast. This was my first time here and I would definitely stop back again!

The food was good. We had the Pittsburgh Salad, Apple and Bleu salad and shrimp and crab dip. The portions were nice and filling. The sangria was flavorful and so was the Bloody Mary but unfortunately it was made with clamato which my husband doesn’t like. It would have been helpful if it was described on the menu. I would have given 4 stars but the service was subpar. A little eye contact and conversation when you slap my food down on the glass table goes a long way.

Food was average. Service was average. Kind of a cool setting, but nothing outstanding. Soup seemed old and was just warm. Lord Lig burger was good. Had to ask for salt & pepper and our waitress seemed put off by the question. Our only personal interaction with our server came at the end when she requested a review on Unilocal so she would get a bonus from her boss. Overall not bad, just not great.

I loved our experience at the Ligonier Tavern. This place definitely met our needs and expectations. We were a party of 12 people and showed up without a reservation on a Friday night. It was packed, but they accommodated us and they had a great environment. We sat outside on the patio, drank some beers and listened to the live music while we waited for our table. As soon as we got our table we were sent into an individual room to enjoy our dinner. It was a great experience. The service was a little slow, but understood as they had a full house pretty much, and also the fact that we were eating upstairs whilst the kitchen was downstairs. Homely feel, great food and good live music!

I’m going to lead with what is good about Ligonier Tavern. Nice bar with a friendly bartender. And a patio overlooking Main Street which is a good vantage point for people watching and enjoying this quaint town. As you can see from my reviews, I don’t like giving negative feedback. But my meal here just was not a great experience. The server was surly. They were out of the mushroom soup which they tout as one of their best items and I was looking forward to it. I settled on the soba salad with shrimp. I was like something my mother would have cooked in the 60s from her good housekeeping cookbook as a fine example of ethnic cuisine. It was horrible. I asked for dressing on the side but it came mixed in which might explain why the noodles were gummy and gloppy. It was sweet with uncooked ramen noodles on top. And topped off with canned mandarin oranges on the side. On the upside, the shrimp were fine. I don’t eat a lot of meat, but my guess is the burgers would be a better choice.

Waited for our food and drinks I have been here before but this is a review for my most recent visit. My family has always enjoyed the food and atmosphere of this established Ligonier restaurant. We were always satisfied with the food and service. On the most recent visit, we were somewhat disappointed. We were a party of 6 and had to wait a lengthy time to be seated. Even then, it was a wait for our drinks and placing our order. My husband had to reorder 3 times as his first and second choices weren’t available. His third pick was Seafood Lasagna which he enjoyed. The food was good for everyone else. Prices are too high when considering the lack of available choices and the 40 – 50 minute wait for food.

The Ligonier Tavern, in a charming old building has a long history of reinventing itself. I have eaten there on and off over the years as it is sometimes wonderful and sometimes terrible. Three years ago lunch with friends was wonderful. Last night dinner for six was a major failure. We had a reservation for 6 people @7pm. We arrived on time and waited 10 min. until we were acknowledged at the entry. The place was busy and another party of 16 was directed upstairs to a party room. We waited patiently at least 20 – 25 minutes for our table. No problem, we were happy chatting with each other. Once seated the waitress was gracious.(although one chair had loose legs and was switched with another that was also uneven– oh well) our drink order was promptly taken and delivered. We ordered an appetizer pizza to share– it was TINY but when we ordered the waitress didn’t advise us that it would not be enough for 6. Our dinner order took an hour to be served and three of the entrees were poorly prepared: a steak ordered rare was charred on the hidden side, the duck ordered med rare was overcooked and like rubber and served with the wrong side order and the seafood dish was unevenly cooked as well. That’s it for us, we will not be returning.

The décor of this tavern is beautiful and you definitely should try it if you are on the edge, the environment alone is worth giving it a shot. The homely interior and the individual rooms give this place a much smaller feel that I enjoyed. And of course it is in Ligonier which itself is a beautiful environment. We entered the building and were quickly greeted and seated near the fireplace. Our drinks came quickly, and so did our food. The French Onion Soup I must say might be the best french onion I have had. It took me quite awhile to break through the thick layer of cheese and bread which was a delicious task. I ordered a medium burger but it came pretty well done, it was a good burger but it wasn’t particularly flavorful. Thelady got a fish wrap and she said it was just okay as well. We had been hiking all day so I just got water but the beer list looked pretty solid. This would have been a $ 45 meal but we had a groupon that brought it down to $ 23. They always have a $ 15 for $ 30 groupon going and on some days like when we went it was $ 9 for $ 30. A 4 star meal with a groupon but only 3 stars without. Good service good atmosphere but that isn’t enough to justify higher prices on pretty mediocre food.

If you’re looking for a fun place to chill for food, drinks, and spend time with friends or family, this is the place! If you’re looking for something quick, with ritz, or a touch more of class, go elsewhere. This is a laid back friends having a good time drinking and eating kind of place. I love coming to the tavern! It’s a local’s restaurant/bar. It’s low key, usually packed, has a patio upstairs in the back. Often times there will be live music on the patio. We sat on the patio for a girls night out. Drinks were relatively inexpensive. The pizza appetizer was good. Sandwiches were great! I tried a few of a friends stuffed mushrooms and really liked those as well. This place is usually packed. The service can be slow when they are busy, so don’t go in you have a time crunch. As a bigger restaurant in an otherwise low key town– the servers can be understaffed and over worked depending upon the crowd sizes. The same goes for the kitchen too– too many customers and not enough cooks means you’ll be waiting longer. I love coming here, it reminds me of my old bars I’d go to with undergrad buddies.

I had the artichoke dip and the lasagna. Artichoke dip: mediocre flavor with too much creamy sauce and minimal artichokes. The pita chips were partly crispy and partly soft. I couldn’t tell if the was effect was on purpose… And at $ 10, not all that impressed. The lasagna had good flavor but it came out cold… So I sent it back. A little microwaving and the addition of a little more sauce and it came back. It has a good taste, but after biting into cold, hardened cheese and meat, I was was less than excited about it. At $ 18, I think it’s overpriced. I had heard recommendations from colleagues about this place, but I can’t say I’ll be back.
