Didn’t enjoy this place at all. Went there based on all the great reviews. Really small place. Our bowls that the food was served on had a sticker on it. I assume it’s brand new. Did they wash it first? Weird.

The quality of fish here is unquestionably top of the list. Quaint, friendly and personal is what you get from a true Japanese sushi chef, Masa always delivers. Don’t see it on the menu… no problem he’ll make it the way you want it and then some. Funny jokes to boot, while you slurp doen the freshest sashimi and nigiri available, serves authentic Nihonjin style.

Amazing fresh sushi, large portions in a quaint mom and pop shop. Highly recommended for anyone seeking quality sushi!

Rice was okay. Could be softer and fluffier. Sashimi was average as well(coming from my mom, a sashimi expert). The sushi chef looks legit tho! Legit Japanese!

A perfect place to stop after a long airplane trip from the Bay Area. Decided to skip the airline-offered box lunch and hold out for sushi. Only 5 min from the airport with plenty of public parking on a Friday in the middle of the lunch hour I was surprised how quiet it was so we had our pick of tables. We figured it must be a place that does more Business at dinner Tried the Udon, nigiri special, dragon roll, caterpillar roll and some other nigiri. The sushi rice is a bit more firm than what we see on the mainland but the focus was on the incredible fish. Nigiri was fantastic with hamachi as the highlight. A wonderful sushi experience overall and would definitely head back again perhaps before our return flight!

We came here last night for dinner and had a great time! The owner was hilarious & really friendly, as was our server. We ordered almost all nigiri which was amazingly fresh! The rolls we got(spicy tuna & the Sunshine roll) were okay but not the star of the show. My fiancé ordered some uni as well and loved it. Overall, a hole in the wall with some awesome nigiri & friendly staff!

Excellent sushi! The four of us were thrilled with our meal. The owner is an excellent sushi chef. Friendly service. You can bring your own saki or wine or other adult beverages which is nice. The price was extremely reasonable! We will be back!

Very fresh and creative sushi rolls: tried the dragon roll, island roll with Mac nuts, and orchid roll with five types of fish! All were beautifully present too.

Despite its humble appearance, this is great sushi. If there’s such a thing as a blue-collar sushi shop, this is it. It’s all sushi, and not the least bit of pretense. It’s like the neighborhood taqueria of sushi shops. If you think you’re getting bottomless soda refills, you’ll be disappointed. If someone in your party thinks they’re going to get katsudon or teriyaki and watch everyone else eat sushi, think again: this is a sushi shop. The menu is almost exclusively sushi/sashimi, but it’s some of the best I’ve had, at prices that are no worse than the mainland. Masa-san himself is super cheerful behind the counter, and always seemed prepared to make a joke. My wife and I trusted his judgement, and ordered the Chirashi(a bowl of chef’s choice sashimi on a bed of sushi rice), with some unagi on the side. We weren’t disappointed. Chirashi is a great choice if you’re willing to cede some control to your chef: he knows what’s freshest, and may pick something you wouldn’t pick for yourself that turns out to be a pleasant surprise. For me, that was the scallop. I love them cooked, but have never had one in sushi. It turned out to be great! I’m always iffy about squid that isn’t deep-fried, but I really enjoyed Masa’s.

My boyfriend and I had quite a nice visit. Yes, this place is a hole in the wall sushi place and yes, it will take you a good minute to get your food. However, I wasn’t on a time crunch nor am I hoity toity. Now that, that is out of the way let me begin by saying ‘YUM!’ Their sashimi was fresh and thick. The chef really doesn’t skimp on the sashimi portion sizes. My boyfriend and I got the letter g combination and it was all delicious! Everything tasted fresh and the miso soup was also delicious! In addition to getting the combination we also ordered a side order of maguro sashimi, orchid roll, sunset roll, and Kobe roll. They were all yummy! The Kobe roll has a sweet soy sauce that is drizzled on top and it was absolutely delicious. Sunset roll was extra meaty and fresh! The sunset roll came with hamachi and maguro with avocado. It was fresh and extra meaty. Definitely a must try. The orchid roll is very very pretty! Also meaty and delicious! The service was awesome. The chef was this pleasant little man with a very animated face! He really made the entire experience. He was the only chef(and I’m pretty sure he owns and is THE only chef for this establishment) and his sushi skills are awesome and he has the greatest personality. The server didn’t show up until a little later but she too was awesome and sweet. Overall I 10⁄10 would recommend. This place may not be flashy or ‘modern’ but what it has is a home feel and heart. I would much prefer a sincere experience than one that is fabricated and what some may call ‘standard’

On a late night eating binge, we decided to check this place out. We came here just before they closed. It’s a small place, with one sushi chef and one waitress on duty. We decided to try the orchid roll and the island roll. The island roll was a bit interesting, since it had macadamia nuts on it lol, although it was still delicious probably wouldn’t try that one again. The orchid roll was also pretty good, good size portion. This place serves BYOB, service is a tad bit slow, but perfect for island time. So don’t go here when you’re in a rush or super hungry.

Don’t be fooled by the plain looking rolls or the small restaurant front, THEIRROLLSAREAMAZING! My husband and I ordered some rolls for pick up, when we opened the containers and saw plain little rolls we were disappointed, but once we took our first bite… Shame on us for«judging a book by its cover», some of the best sushi we’ve ever had.

This place is a sh@# hole. I want to give negative stars. Super slow food arrive. Got food 1 hour after ordering at 7:45pm. With this kind of wait, we should have got something complimentary. Instead, they charge $ 2 for a can of Coke. Back on the mainland, I can go to a grocery store and get better sushi and spend less. I had better sushi at the Portland airport. The food we got would be $ 20 on the mainland based on quality. It cost $ 70 here. They are pricing if they are an Iron Chef. Presentation was so rushed. Turning a slice into two… ridiculous. Fish was fishy, stringy, and chewy. Sushi was falling apart as I pick it up with chopsticks. I’m already feeling ill as I write this. Who are these locals who are writing these fake reviews for this restaurant? How could this be a 4 – 5 star place.

We wanted one last sushi stop before boarding our flight home. Stopped here after searching Unilocal. This is certainly a hole in the wall restaurant with minimal staff. Don’t expect a beautiful sushi restaurant: no frills is right. Just a waitress and the sushi chef on the day we were there. Very slow in making our rolls and we were nearly panicking we wouldn’t make our flight, so our visit was a dine/dash kind of experience. Don’t make the same mistake – leave enough time when coming here as the chef moves at a snails pace. That said, the sushi was great. Tuna sashimi was wonderful – very thick generous slices – more than you would be served back in Los Angeles. Even my daughter commented, «Mom these are big slices!» We got their spider roll and orchid roll too. Both were good – the orchid was the standout star. No alcohol on the menu – knocking a star off for that.

MUSTGOHERE! Sushi was perfect! Perfect sized sushi rolls, flavor was amazing. Must try Tokyo with avocado roll AND their special scallop roll. Chef is from Tokyo and was a sweetheart. Everyone is so friendly, wish I lived here so I could try every roll!

Masas is a great place for no frills sushi. The dining room is very modest and simple. They have all my favorites that i’d expect(hamachi, Saba, Unagi, toro, ikura, hotategai)… Except for Uni– which they didn’t have both times I’ve gone. My favorite dish is the fresh amaebi! It’s really fresh tasting and comes with a deliciously fried head that is sooo good to crunch! Check out the photos! Masa is very friendly and personable! He recognized me from just a single visit and remembered what I enjoyed the last time. This would be a 4 star sushi restaurant on oAhu, but this is Kauai, so I give it a 5 star just cause I don’t think there’s another restaurant here with a real Japanese sushi chef and waitress!

WOW. What can I say, except the sushi is AMAZING, the atmosphere is fun, the chef is hilarious and his partner is very sweet and hospitable, and the BYOB aspect is super rad! Bought some MomoKawa sake at the Time Supermarket and headed over to Rice Street, parking wasn’t a problem and when we walked in we were greeted enthusiastically! Ordered the Orchid Roll and the Half Moon Bay Roll(since we’re from SF) along with miso and ahi & shrimp nigiri. It was so good we ordered 4 more rolls!!! One of the best parts, they have REAL wasabi!
