Garden Island Barbecue & Chinese Restaurant

2 years later from my last review and the food only gets better. Not too greasy. Huge portions and reasonably priced. Lots of locals eat here. Serve staff works tirelessly so food is super fast and they do it with a smile.

I have been dining at this restaurant for YEARS. Always good good, fast service and reasonable prices. The staff are always friendly and hard workers.

Had the sea bass. Was fantastic. The place was packed with locals celebrating graduation. Even though it was very crowded and busy… our very friendly waitress got our order out in record time.
There is parking behind the restaurant and on the street. Only on the island for three days, but will go back again. It was terrific. Not a fancy place… just very tasty food and good service.

Great locals joint. Lunch platter huge, generous portions. Food comes out super fast. Would highly recommend Loco Moco, Mahi Mahi and Lemon Chicken combo and braised short ribs. Would come back for sure!

I used to love this place, great food & fast service. Today, I decided to takeout instead of normally eating in & the person taking my order was quite rude. In the middle of my order, she starts talking to someone else. When I completed my order, she asked for my name & then hung up. Not professional one bit. I understand that they must be busy, but that is no way to treat a customer.

I came here so many times just for the service! And the food! So cheap, plentiful and tasty! I wouldn’t call it all Chinese since they alps have lunch plates. But everything is super affordable, tasty and cheap!

It’s not Chinese but it’s an island Chinese fusion. You can taste the freshness of all the veggies in each dishes. I even came here for dinner once but it was quite a drive in the pitch dark city and also had quite a wait for dinner. Lunch is where you should be at!
I also did a ton of take out every time I’m in the area. Did I mention how friendly everyone is too? All you need is one dish! So much food. It also helps that they think me and my sunburnt face and salt covered hair was the prettiest thing ever. Who doesn’t want compliments from other women?! Such nice ladies and tasty food! Sign me up!

Almost all of their dishes are really good! I love their ginger chicken as it has a great sauce with a clean steamed quarter of chicken. Great for individual orders or family style. Try their stringbeans with schechuan sauce or their tenderloin beef on sizzling platter. Great value for money.

This old established locals’ restaurant was sold in the spring of 2015. For most of the summer the food and quality remained high, but really sorry to say things have gone down hill. The recipes have changed, the taste and quality have gone down down too, while the price have gone up. Perhaps this is why this once hustling and bustling restaurant has so many empty tables. I will be curious to see if they win any «Best Of Kauai» awards for best Bar B Q as in past years. I noticed tonight a new cook. Maybe it’s just him? I’ll try it again in a couple of weeks. Until then be aware.
Hallelujah the original owners have bought back the restaurant and have returned it to its wonderful foods and specialties. Last check in 12/​28/​2015

Good local Chinese restaurant in Lihue, near the airport and cruise port. Lots of dishes to choose from, including a variety of veggie dishes. Fast service, parking in the back, easy access, good food. Our go to Chinese restaurant in Kauai.

This is a place you need to hit. There were 4 of us and we got 5 dishes and an order of rice– $ 59 for all of us. You can’t beat that on Kauai.
We had the Kung Pao chicken, Lemon chicken, Orange Chicken, sizzling beef, and a noodle dish and they were all excellent.

My wife and I got a tip on this place from the woman we rented a room from while on Kauai. She said it was where her family went when in Lihue. She hadn’t steered us wrong before.
It is a pretty nondescript storefront. The sign hangs out front with a few handwritten pieces of printer paper taped to the door with specials. They were quick to get us waters and menus. My wife had the BBQ Combo and I had the Shrimp and Spare Ribs plate. Both came with rice and mac salad, though they offer fried rice in liu of both.
Food was decent… Salty. Typical Asian BBQ style. Not bad. But I wouldn’t have wanted more than what I had. Shrimp were great as was the mac salad.
Not a bad spot. The prices were awesome compared to the rest of the island. 2 dishes, a Coke, and tip was $ 26. Worth heading to if you are looking to save some money before heading out on your flight home.

Nothing Fancy, but this place does have really good Chinese food at GREAT prices!!! Also great for take out!

Portions are Large and tasty. Fortunately they offer a mini plate. Very affordable pricing. The interior needs updating. Friendly and accommodating staff.

Best food on Kauai! Affordable and large portions. Interior design isn’t fancy. Nice people working there. We will be back for sure. Teriyaki steak and lemon chicken were very tasty!

It wasn’t as good as I remember it. The service was slow. Waitresses ignored us then wanted us to move when we found a table to sit at. We ordered plate lunch style plates and the waitress even asked all of us if we wanted mac salad or kimchee but when we got our orders it was delivered to us family style but still we had to ask for rice. Even asking for rice the waitress had difficulty understanding. Big let down.

We ate lunch here and we had quick and good service but I was not thrilled with the quality of the meat. The vegetables stir fry was very good but I had the seafood platter with the lemon chicken which had no lemon flavor like I’ve had at other restaurants. The chicken meat was also very thin and tasted like it had skin or something on it. The shrimp was the highlight of the plate for me. The fish was ok but nothing special. My husband had the bbq platter and was ok with his meal.

if you are hungry, wants good phillipino chinese food, you are on the right place.

Menu didn’t have any descriptions so u don’t know if you got grilled or deep fried… mostly deep fried
Veggie fried rice has eggs! they offered to swap with white rice since I am allergic.
Ordered veggie platter and got veggies platter with tofu
The meat platter was good but everything tasted the same couldn’t tell the chicken from the beef from the pork.
Seafood platter was good all around all deep fried.
Wonton soup was good nice big bowl.

Always come here to eat. Good food, good prices. Never had a bad experience here. Good place for locals and tourists to eat!

Just love all their food… they have new owners but nothing has changed… always crowded… reservations not required but if you a group… call ahead and book a table…
