I needed to try this – a Nebraska classic – for my first time. Sadly, I was disappointed. I paid $ 6.65 for an original runza and a large order of frings(fries and onion rings together). Seemed quite on the high side for this quality of fast food. The runza was very hot but was soft and mushy/soggy when I opened it from the wrapper. I am not sure what it was supposed to be like, but I was expecting it to be crisp on the outside. The filling inside was just salty. It reminded me of a White Castle burger, but more expensive. The fries and onion rings seemed frozen to me(even though I read the restaurant’s claim to make everything fresh) and were unremarkable.

Runza… no it does not give you the runs. Seriously, if I had a nickel for every time someone asked me that question… Food: Before anyone inquires as to why I was in Lincoln, Nebraska, I’d like to ask why not Lincoln? Did you automatically dismiss the place as having terrible food? Did you know anything about the food here to begin with? Anyway, it was a learning experience for me. I came to visit my very dear friend who is here to complete her last year of education. They have a fast food chain called Runza which serves *drumroll* runzas. What is a runza? It’s the Midwestern equivalent of a pirogi or an empanada filled with meat, and onions baked in a crust. I got the original Runza sandwich( , open shot ), a steaming hot meat pocket containing ground beef, melted cheese, minced onions, and pepper. I have to say that it wasn’t half bad. In fact, it was actually really good. Plus, the idea of having a fast food chain that serves meat pies is downright appealing to me. Always the adventurous one, my boo tried the burger( ) and fries( ). While the fries were crispy with just the right amount of salt, the burger was McDonald’s bad. I might be biased since I live in a city that claims to have invented the cheeseburger, but this was truly an insult to burgers everywhere. Atmosphere: Runza is a fast food chain that you can only find in Nebraska. I appreciated their tables decorated with a road map of the state( ). It actually gave us some good ideas for places to visit. Service: It’s fast food, so I wasn’t expecting much. Not enough interaction to judge. Synopsis: Definitely a new thing for me. It would be interesting if there were a Runza in Socal.
