Enjoyed my first visit a couple of months ago. Today we walked in for lunch. Sat down and promptly left because it was so loud, we couldn’t have a conversation. The acoustics are horrible. If you go during busy hours, be sure to bring your outside voice.

This restaurant is quite good. I like the plain roll and New York strip steak. The New York steak is affordable and very tasty. Their seasoning is so good. I tried one of their specialty rolls which I found to be a bit too sweet and saucy. I like more simply tastes. And I tried their fried rice, to me it was inedible. They used brown rice to make it. The texture and taste was awful. It is super cheap, $ 8 for shrimp fried rice, but I could not eat it.

Amazing sushi. Was hesitant to try a new place. Was some of the best sushi I have had in a long time :)

Tonight I felt like Sushi. Looked at the Unilocal reviews and chose Starfish as it was close. Boy, did we make the right decision. First, the place is beautifully decorated. And wonderfully quiet. We started with edamame and gyoza. The edamame was not overly salty and the gyoza were tasty My son in law had the spicy ramen. The portion was huge and it was served with watermelon on a big platter And now the sushi. We had three different rolls; rainbow, crazy dragon and scary spider. All were phenomenal. Will be back. I even had a glass of wine.

I’ve been here a few times for happy hour, and it is the perfect representation of a three-star establishment. First of all, this place is huge, and the happy hour is only at the bar. I enjoyed the tuna pizza and potstickers, but nothing really stands out. The happy hour pricing and the wines are good, but nothing is memorable, which is why I’m struggling to write much in this review!

This a very nice suburb Japanese restaurant. In face, it is probably one of the best around Buffalo Grove area. This is a 4 star in the suburb, but I would rated 3 if it was in the city. I liked it because it has various selections from sushi, noodle to salad. Most of them are cooked well. Our company had a lunch party in the restaurant and I can tell everyone is satisfied. The only complain I have is the portion and the quality of the sushi rice used in nigiri. I think it has too much rice, also the rice is cooked average for sushi. Overall, I still strongly recommend this restaurant if you live around the area.

My boyfriend chose this place for his birthday dinner and, as soon as we walked in, we were very impressed. The ambience is very relaxing and sophisticated. I do have to mention that the tables are very close, but it did not bother me. Our waiter, Al, was very friendly and offered many suggestions. I told him I am not a sushi fanatic and he said the salmon was excellent. He pointed us in the way of the crab stuffed Panko breaded mushrooms which were one of the best appetizers we’ve had in a long time. It was the perfect blend of crab to mushroom and the crisp of the Panko was fantastic. For the entrees, I took our servers recommendation of the salmon and I was not disappointed! The skin had a nice crunch to the perfectly cooked fish. My boyfriend, being a sushi lover, had to try an assortment of rolls. He ordered the Golden Ebi, Green Turtle, and a short roll of sexy lady and smokey bear. They were all fantastic, with his favorite being the green turtle! The presentation of the sushi was beautiful and the fish undoubtedly tasted fresh. Another nice addition which I don’t see at many sushi restaurants was the ability to order short rolls of sushi to get a little sample with out ordering way too much! To top off our already delightful meal, our server brought us a complimentary scoop green tea ice cream which was also very tasty! Overall this is a hot spot for good sushi and is definitely worth trying!

I came here with my husband on a Sunday night because I’ve had it on my bookmarked list for quite some time but was always hesitant as the pics of the sushi look just like the ones from Wildfish so I wasn’t sure if it’s similar owners, similar concepts what the deal was but I truly was hoping that it would stand alone and be it’s own sushi concept. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen. It was just like Wildfish and Blufish just in Lincolnshire. Our server was nice and pleasant the whole time so they get a star for that. The atmosphere is trendy and more modern so they get a star for that and the sushi well, it was just so so. We ordered a bunch of different rolls to try from the more simple rolls like spicy salmons to their fancier black dragons and such. Honestly, it’s a little over priced in my opinion for what you get. The spicy salmon is 5 pieces for $ 7 and the salmon itself did not taste very fresh. The dragon roll we got with the eel on top was good until I tasted the char grilled eel, I don’t know why they char the eel. It’s not supposed to be bbq eel and I could literally taste its burnt flavor. Total turn off and for $ 14-$ 18 for their speciality rolls they should be amazing and taste super fresh and unfortunately they were just mediocre. I will give them a star for having amazing spicy mayo, just like Wildfish has. But honestly, I was hoping Starfish would be unique or do something different, even make different names for their sushi rolls, but they’re all the same. I’m surprised people are saying the service was off since our issue was not with the service but with the over priced and moderate tasting sushi.

They have an extensive menu of sushi. The chirashi bowl is unlike any other sushi restarant I have been to. It is presented beautifully; the sashimi is the star here and plated over a small bed of rice rather than an overkill of rice that is found at most restaurants.

I just moved back to the suburbs. While living in the city, I found only one sushi place that I really enjoyed without complaint. I had a few spots in the ‘burbs that I loved while growing up and before moving into the city, and now that I’m back, I’m glad. One of my favorite places for sushi is Sushi-Ai in Palatine… but it is a bit of a hike from my new digs in Deerfield. Enter, Starfish Sushi, which, is the same menu as Sushi-Ai, and presumably, the same ownership. When I say same menu, I mean, mostly the same specialty rolls(Green Dragon, Dirty Old Man, Crunchy Muffy, Scary Spider, etc…) They do have a few rolls that I didn’t recognize, like the Golden Ebi, which was fantastic. They also, I believe, have more choices when it comes to nigiri and sashimi. They also have an expansive kitchen menu with grilled items ilke steak, chicken and fish, stone and noodle bowls. The highlight here really is the sushi… and even moreseo the raw items. We indulged in a plethora of delights during our visit, the best highlight of which was absolutely the nigiri. We treated ourselves to chutoro, as I rarely see it on menus. My sister had never had it before, but was eager to try as tuna is usually her favorite type of sushi. It’s pricy, but worth every penny. The portions on everything were spectacular, making it even more worth the price. It was no more expensive than sushi in the area, but the portions of nigiri were double other places I’ve seen. The restaurant itself is also beautifully decorated, and large, with ample seating. I highly recommend checking it our — we treated ourselves to a lot of different tastes when we were there last week, and were not disappointed by anything! :

Delicious!!! One of my favorite spots for sushi in the suburbs. The food is always fresh and the menu has a lot of sushi options with creative and complimenting mixes.

Surprisingly decent for the raw fish… to my disliking… the roll was sorta trenched in sauce… nothing really to write home for the apps or entrees… the agedashi mozzarella is like fried mozzarella patties in soy sauce… interesting concept… but poor execution since the core of the cheese«discs» were still cold… and my friend who only had cooked stuff ended up having stomach problem…

All aspects. 5*. As a rule our families favorite meal is sushi, no surprise when our son graduated from Navy boot camp and had Liberty for few hours he chose Sushi for dinner. My husband discovered this place, omg, the finest compliment to say it was worthy of such a monumental celebration. Party of 7 we ordered mix of everything… Fav roll: Ocean Drive; mini mi outstanding; surprise hit: grumpy old man. Spicy seaweed salad TDF. We ended up ordering 2. After the first(ordered as an entrée) was shared and disappeared quick. Presentation of everything was nothing short of artistic. Each platter that came out with a carrot, Apple, other cut and displayed in shape of a bird, flower, etc. outstanding.

I don’t have a single bad thing to say about Starfish. The quality of their sushi is amazing and their price point is right on. Also, their presentation is phenomenal. I love starfish for take out and for dining in. Recommendation — go their for lunch!!! Their lunch specials are large portions and won’t break the bank. I would recommend any of their maki rolls and their salads are delicious!

I had dinner here this evening and some things just don’t change! Their sushi is great, but the service is horrible! Took 15mins for a waitress to even approach us. I asked for recommendations on appetizers and her response was«everyone’s taste is different, so I don’t know». All she had to say was«these are the most popular dishes», not that difficult.

Started out with the Miso Soup and it was pretty much at par with other sushi places I’ve been to. The rolls are all very unique and most come in large and small sizes. I had the Salmon Obsession and California Crunch, neither disappointed. The service was top notch and my waiter was very attentive. I will definitely be eating here again next time I am in town!

This place will work if it’s in manhattan, but Lincolnshire? Sure, lincolnshire is a ritzy town, but it’s not a town with diversity and sophisticated palette. From the outside, this restaurant looks like any other sushi restaurant. You walk inside, and it’s too hip for this town. I walked in ln a weeknight and i was the only one there. The bar was completely empty. Waiters just standing around. Very nice décor, a great date night ambiance. Ordered the ramen and it was less than satisfactory. Ramen is all about the broth and this broth, is fatty and not flavorful, and way too salty. Not worth the $ 12 whatsoever. Waiter and hostess was not very on top of their game either. I did a takeout and was waiting and they asked if i was waiting for someone to arrive. If i were, couldnt i have waited at a table? 3 starts for ambiance, accessible location with shops nearby and an extensive menu.

2nd time here and got take out this time. The rolls continue to be awesome. Great portions of fresh, fresh fish that hit the spot. Spicy tuna, dragon roll, spider roll were all on point. This was similar to our experience on our last visit when we dined in. Chicken fried rice was pretty delicious as well and fulfilled my wife’s craving. The only reason I can’t give the full 5 stars is that I haven’t found a number of their appetizers that appealing. The karaage appetizer: wish it could be larger, thicker pieces of chicken that were more moist with a crispier layer of batter. The Gyoza: nothing special, wish they were fried a little more to add a touch of crunch. Maybe because the rolls and sashimi is so great, I feel like there’s a disparity in quality between the awesome sushi vs the appetizers. Will definitely be a repeat customer for the rolls and sashimi. If the appetizers can be stepped up a notch, will definitely update my review to 5 stars.

An excellent sushi restaurant! Even though it is tucked away in the suburbs, starfish does not compromise on the quality of its fish. Excellent thick portions, beautifully crafted rolls(and lots of extravagant maki combinations), fun drinks, and trendy atmosphere. Service is also great. In addition, they have a happy hour from 4 – 7 pm on mon-Thursday; Half price of some apps and beer. Some of the dishes that I enjoyed on this visit: Special spicy tuna: I usually can not stand cream cheese in sushi, but I was glad that you couldn’t taste it in this roll because of all the other better ingredients that masked it. Still pretty fresh tasting, even with all the fru fru additions. Big eye basic tuna roll: just the fish, rice, and seaweed and it was oh so fresh. Spinach greens salad: honestly their salads are great additions to the meal for a small price! Generous portions and tasty dressings. Ocean drive roll: my friend complained that this was way too spicy, but as a spicy food lover I was fine with it! Crispy tuna roll: a little too buttery and heavy for a roll in my opinion, but still very yummy nonetheless. I would love to come back here when I’m in the area and bring more people to this spot! I believe they are still quite new, so it wasn’t too crowded on a wednesday night but definitely should have been!
