Sister’s of Soul

Today was my 3^rd time trying to place an order. The first two times they were out of what I wanted (smothered turkey wings & potato salad and today they were out of smothered Turkey wings again). I ended up ordering the Fried Whiting, Potato salad and Mac & Cheese. The fish and Mac & Cheese were good, but my favorite was the potato salad, unfortunately the cornbread was burned. I would order from there again. The prices were very reasonable. Oh and the hot sauce was watered down.

I visited Sister’s of Soul this past weekend for a takeout dinner where I ordered bbq beef ribs, collard greens and candied yams. The ribs were fantastic and oh so tender, the yams were pretty good, but the big disappointment were the collard greens and the portion size for the sides. The greens did not have any flavor and they barely gave you a fistful of greens and yams. I heard that you get more when you sit down verses taking out. In addition, I am not sure if they have heard of service with a smile because I did not get one smile out of their staff.

I threw my mother a surprise 76^th birthday party for my mother on Friday 5÷4÷2012 and we ALL had a great time.
Cynthia, you and your staff did an awesome job with the catering of food, decorating the place and taking the time to make my mother, family and friends feel warm and welcomed. The food was DELICIOUS!!! Cynthia suggested for me to do buffet style so everyone would and can eat at the same time because the size of the party and all I can say is that she had it together.
This was the first surprise birthday party I threw for my mother and thanks to Sister’s Of Soul, it will be memorable for her and myself and my family and friends.
When you and your son took the time to first acknowledge my mother’s born day and give a blessing before we ate and also when you said a few words before we ALL sung Happy Birthday, that made the entire evening special for me and definitely for her.
Thank you very much for everything and I will again continue to patronize your establishment and spread the word when someone ask where they should throw a get together.

Let me start by saying I like to support Black business. But the experience I had here was beyond unbelievable. I used them to cater my grandmother’s party. I booked the cater a month in advance (paid deposit same day, got a contract). One day before the party I go there to finalize my payment. They can not find my contract nor do they have any recollection of me going there and signing a contract. This all gets settled once my mother faxes over my contract. Fast forward, day of the party, I get a call at 11:26 stating the delivery guy is 15 minutes away. An hour and ten minutes later here comes the delivery guy just 2 minutes before my grandmother walks in and we all yell «surprise».
The service is something that will have me never visit again, not even to have a take out meal. Other than bad service the food was pretty good.

Went here on a Saturday for an early dinner under a recommendation. It was 5 pm and was told that they were shutting down the restaurant portion at 6 pm for a private event. So what was going through my mind was a rushed dinner. I should of turned away at that point.
I ordered the catfish (well portioned), mac and cheese (nothing special) and collard greens (never had sweet greens before, yuk!), cornbread (dry and crumbly) and red velvet cake (dry and no flavor).
The service was decent, but maybe that was because I was being rushed out. They had the front door wide open, being distracted by the St. Georges Avenue traffic. Also, the dinner was not enjoyable due to all the gnats that I had to constantly swat away from my plate. Uggh!
Needless to say I definitely won’t be revisiting, even if it was free.

I have been looking forward to trying this place out for awhile… finally we get a group together… we got there at 6:50 and did not have any actual food until almost 8:00pm. We ordered the fish and shrimp entrée first to enjoy as an appetizer and then ordered our actual entrees 20 minutes later! We didn’t get the fish and shrimp until after the check was paid and it was cold! That to me is beyond ridiculous! I had the fried chicken with Mac n cheese and potato salad as the side. It was delicious, however I would never go there again. Each entrée should have come with a side of cornbread which never materialized. One of our party theorized that the restaurant did not keep inventory… which would explain why they seemed to be out of all the desserts and all the food took FOREVER to be prepared.
Also they are under new management… I shudder to think of what the old mgmnt did!
Sorry, I really wanted to like this place but no, I think it maybe a good take out lunch option but def not a Saturday night dinner…

Wow, They catered my family and friends Thanksgiving dinner and the food was Amazing. My tummy is still dancing.

This is the first time I’ve come to this place… its not much to look at… a decent sized dining room. Dimly lit so bring your eye drops lol. I ordered oxtails with mac and cheese and a side order of fried chicken wings. My hun ordered fried chicken breast dinner. As we waited we had cornbread with cinnamon flavored butter. OMG! The food was delicious! The chicken was crispy and well seasoned. The mac and cheese had sharp cheddar and complimented the dinner well. Also the oxtails was in a brown gravy (the way I like) and was fall of the bone tender. It’s a shame I had to drive to Newark to get such a delight but it was worth the drive. So if your around the way make sure to sit back and enjoy a glass of «uptown» (ice tea and lemonade) and hopefully you have a healthy appetite cause the portions are more than enough.
