The Smoking Apple is yet another barbeque joint that fails to live up to it’s promises. The brisketmeat was dry, the coleslaw was really soggy, and barbeque sauce was too sweet. The only reason I give it three stars, rather than the two it deserves, is the mashed potatoes and the cornbread. They alone can slightly save this restaurant. The potatoes with buttered corn on top is a perfect combo of buttery corn and garlic-y potatoes. The corn bread is thick, moist and perhaps a little too sweet but still very delectable. My dining partner loves this place and comes for his birthday(which is why we were there) every year. I find it less appealing, but I still manage to find the items I do like and enjoy them to the fullest. The pulled pork was actually quite moist and a little tender, much more tender than the brisket toothpicks I also had. All in all, it’s a run of the mill barbeque joint. It’s got the good and the bad, the bad just happens to outnumber the good. But the good is still there, if you look hard enough!

We happened to be in Pleasant Grove for an event and started looking for a place to eat. The great reviews here on Unilocal convinced us to give it a try. My wife had pulled pork, chicken, veggies and a salad. Other than the salad being way to small to be called a salad, she said she enjoyed it. I had the brisket and ribs, veggies and beans. The ribs were tender and tasty. The brisket was the worst brisket I think I have ever had in my life. I think I have had dried out Sunday roast that tasted better. Typically when you get smoked brisket you are expecting tender slices of beef with a smoked crust. What showed up on my plate was over-done dry and barely edible even with a healthy dose of the BBQ sauce on the table. If someone would have asked me what it was, I would not have been able to identify it as brisket. So, this place gets 1 star for brisket. I’m assuming the owner wouldn’t put what I received on a plate and pass it through the window. Perhaps he has hired someone who just doesn’t care? Bottom line, I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt and giving it 3 stars. It looks like they have had some issues in the recent past based on the reviews. Maybe it is time for the owner to take a hard look at who he has working in the kitchen.

I walked in to a lot of «excellence in customer service» awards in their wall and I was looking forward to it. The girl in the front desk was rude, like I was bugging her, not a greet, no thanks, no smiles, the service truly sucked. The meet was not tender, I had the pork ribs and the brisket. The brisket tasted like dirt and the ribs were definitely not fall of the bone. The mac & cheese was done with Velveeta or some fake cheese *grose! I was however impressed on the portion size, the 2 meat plate had a ton of meat. In other words, I don’t recommend it and I am pretty sure I’m never coming back. The other cool thing is that they have apple beer, but even that was watery…

One of the best places to get barbecue in Utah County. All of their dishes are awesome, and I especially love the spicy sausage. The brisket is to die for as well. And I love the simplicity of their menu, and their super good lunch deals.

Not the best barbeque I’ve ever had but it was good. The brisket was a little dry but the pulled pork was nice. They were out of ribs unfortunately. I like the little kick their BBQ sauce has. Veges were frozen but cooked well. Corn and garlic mash were yummy. Overall, they had some hits and misses but I’d go back. Kid friendly too!

Would not recommend. Dickies is better. The food is middle school lunch style being heated by boiling water. Food is not very good. I would go anywhere else but here. I love bbq but couldn’t finish my food here.

Not as great as I thought it would be. It’s a little old building on state street in Lindon. The atmosphere is nice and the place is clean. We had a few of the different menu items. We tried the ribs, brisket, sausage. The ribs were pretty good. The brisket was all chopped up and tasted like bbq beef. Not sure why they are doing it that way. They are ruining something great in my opinion. The sausage had good flavor. But it kind of reminded me of mystery meat. Kind of a spam taste. Overall there are many other BBQ places that I would go to over this one. But it’s alright if you want to try it for the sake of trying it.

Underwhelmed. I had high hopes for some great BBQ. I ordered a 2 meat plate which means I can choose 3 sides. I wanted French fries. picking fries negates the option of ANY sides. Fries OR3 sides?! Fries can’t count as one of the sides?! You would think fries taking the space of 3 sides would mean you get a lot of fries. No, underwhelming amount of fries. Yes, the fries were tasty though. Sadly they were better than the meats. I had to drench the meats in BBQ sauce to get any flavor. Avoid the chicken! Flavorless. Sadly I won’t be coming back.

I’ve tried a lot of BBQ from NC, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Texas, Kansas City, Montana, California, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, and Nevada. I’m sure I missed a few spots, but you get the idea. This place is good/okay in my book, even for a Utah spot I would give it a good rating, but I’m not a fan. I didn’t finish my meal, not because it was bad… it was good. I just wasn’t drawn in on flavors or something. It may have been my appetite or something outside of them. I sampled various meats and even asked for employee suggestions to pick some of their best. I will go back and try again and hope to change my opinion. Cheers.

To start off, I am no sort of BBQ connoisseur but I enjoy eating brisket, pulled pork, etc… They have menus on the counter you can look at and then provide samples to taste before you order. The samples come in small paper cups with a toothpick. The staff was friendly at the counter as we placed our order. We waited about seven minutes and then our name was called. They put a little bit of their own BBQ sauce on our sandwiches. More of their sauce as well as their own hot sauce on each table. Their house BBQ sauce was really good. Not too tangy or sweet. A fantastic combination of the two. There is a counter with many different kinds of hot sauces as well as ketchup and their own creation that appeared to be some sort of fry sauce. We got a pulled pork and brisket sandwich. They have a regular size and a bigger size. We opted for the regular size and had enough to fill us up. Their seasoned fries are very nice, crispy on the outside and soft and hot on the inside. The baked beans were nice and the smashed potatoes were seasoned tastefully. There was no Cherry or Vanilla coke in the fountain, but they did have Powerade and apple beer, which aren’t always available at other places. We paid about $ 20 for our food and one soda. I was very satisfied with the amount of food we got, the quality of the food, the price and atmosphere was nice. I’d definitely go back to The Smoking Apple.

Amazing! I’ve had bbq from all over the country, even famous places in the south and this is absolutely my favorite. The combination of flavors is astounding. It’s a little more expensive than other bbq places in Utah county, but really well worth it. Love the ribs, brisket, sweet potato fries and sweet cornbread.

I love BBQ. I used to goto Lon’s, best BBQ in the valley, but now settle for 5 star. This place had a lot of good reviews and I’m always down to eat BBQ. Brisket is my favorite, it’s a harder meat to cook and much more satisfying that pork. But that’s just me. I ordered the brisket sandwich, with Mac and cheese, corn bread, and a side of beer battered onion rings. I ordered it to go and was disappointed when I got home. The brisket, if you could call it that, was shredded and already had a little bit of sauce on it. It didn’t look very appetizing but that doesn’t dictate taste. The bread they used was a small bun that reminding me of elementary school cafeteria food. First bite was pretty dry. The smokey flavor wasn’t really there, but I could taste a little bit of liquid smoke. I don’t really like sauce with brisket because I think the meat doesn’t need it. I put some on to make it not so dry. It tasted like a SLOPPYJOE. Not a good lunch. The Mac and cheese was fine, nothing special. And the corn bread was ok too. The only reason I didn’t do 1 star was that the onion rings were very tasty. Really disappointed. Especially after reading all the great reviews. Hopefully I went on an off day. Hopefully Utah county will get better BBQ.

I had a two-meat combo(brisket, sausage) with coleslaw, mac-n-cheese, and corn bread. The sausage was the highlight of my meal. The rest was unimpressive. I could wax poetic, but the bottom line across the board is, «dried out and flavorless.» Sadly, that makes this place typical for Utah BBQ, so you may like it. Service was good.

We came here just because of the reviews on Unilocal. We read the reviews and some said to get the 2 meats with 3 sides option and that will be enough to shared for two. We was about to order just that but saw a similar order came out and well, it was tiny!!! We ended up getting order 1: beef brisket, sausage, with the 3 sides of cornbread, mixed veggies with sweet corn on top, and mac n cheese. order 2: pork brisket with onion rings our total came out around $ 22ish. What we liked: all the meat were so well cooked, and they were all super flavorful in combination with the fry and bbq sauce. the beef and pork brisket were very tender. Sausage were spicy just the right amount. You can totally taste the beer in the beer battered onion ring. Ours got a little soft and soggy because we had ours to-go and did not eat it until 30 mins later, but you can still tell that the onion rings were very good! What we did not like: As mentioned, the portions are pretty small. Cornbread had this little distinct corn taste that I cant describe, but it was not our favorite. Mac n cheese were mediocre, and definitely not memorable in anyway, a little too soft for my taste. Also, our pork brisket came out as a sandwich, but i did not order the sandwich. i ordered a meat dish… Oh well. Over all I would give it 3.5 star: the sides did not wow me. The meat was pretty good, but a little over priced since the portions are too small in my opinion. And they got my order wrong so I am rounding it down to 3 stars.

We came here because a friend told us that they enjoyed the food here. That being said, this was my first time here, but I definitely wasn’t disappointed. I got the brisket sandwich with my two sides of mashed potatoes(which they for some random reason call«smashed taters») and the corn bread. The brisket was very good! Granted, I am no Texan by any means, but I did come with a Texan! Furthermore, said Texan gave me the Texan seal of approval for the brisket. So not just some ignorant Californian saying that the brisket is good, take it from a Texan as well! The corn bread was good, it had something sweet on top of it which was interesting because I’ve never had that before. I tried to spread butter on it but it was super crumbly so it turned into more of corn bread crumbs, but regardless, ’twas good! The«smashed taters» were really good! Real mashed potatoes. My biggest beef(pun intended) with them was the serving size was seriously smaller than a kids scoop of ice cream! What gives? It would have been better had they given me a bit more, but nevertheless, they were good. Overall a good experience! You wouldn’t regret coming here at least once and then probably a couple more times after that!

It’s decent. Smaller portions than you’d expect for the price tag and OK customer service. But as i’ve discussed at length with friends and family, a three star BBQ place is still a good BBQ place, there’s just better BBQ elsewhere.

This food is very exceptional! I found it on Unilocal via the excellent rating when we couldn’t decide what to eat. We tried– Pulled pork sandwich. Sweet butter corn & cornbread. Fabulous! Eric’s cheese steak sandwich with the sweet potato fries. So delicious! Bbq Chicken plate with standard fries. They were way better than you expect fries to be. I noticed the great kid’s menu options, will bring my daughter along next time and try the corn dog or chicken sandwich. And, I have to come back sometime to also try the molten chocolate cake dessert asap.

I’ve spent a lot of time in Texas, and travel to eat. So when it comes to BBQ Im on the picky side. I’ve hit all Utah’s top rated BBQ spots and have yet to find a good brisket. Here is what I thought Brisket– it’s all pre shredded, you can’t choose the cut. It’s over seasoned and they don’t let it stand on its own. Fries were good, the pink sauce for the fries was amazing. The pulled pork and chicken were similar, they along with the brisket lack real smokey flavor. The meat was a bit chewy. The good thing was that the sauce they make is excellent. The meat that I liked best was the sausage, while it did not have any deep smoky flavor, it did taste great. It was the best dish I had here. I don’t want to be a hater but if you know good SMOKEDBBQ, you might be disappointed.

This place is a 4. The experience I had there gave it a five. I arrive. Order. Ask if i can just buy one rib to test it out. Receive a snide remark from the worker. Did not feel very welcomed. Got the two meat plate. The food was great. Best pulled pork i have had in Utah, I don’t know how to desribe the flavor but it was soooooooo good. The brisket was good nothing amazing. Baked beans… super good. The mac n cheese… passable. The coleslaw… delightful. Where my experience changed. I met the owner and he was the NICEST guy i have met in a long time. He let us sample everything. The workers became a lot nicer at this point. He let his try a mini sausage sandwich. über yummy. because of his generosity i purchased the cheesesteak sandwich. I prefer it WITHOUT mayonaise, but he was right it was really good, i would prefer it on a roll. Best BBQ in Utah of the 7 or 8 places i have gone here.(overall). If you like bbq you cannot miss this place. TELLTHEMYOUARETHERETO UnilocalANDTHEYWILLTREATYOULIKEROYALTY!(the manager just treats you like that normally) also good news… i did not get the runs!

As i have found so far, this is the best bbq ive had in Utah. Im from California and have had outstanding bbq there but this place was pretty delicious. I was impressed with the quality for the good price. A big plus is that they let you sample the meat to help out with the choice to be made. I ordered a two meat special with brisket and chicken. I also added a cajun sausage on the side which was fantastic, just the right amount of spice. You get three sides so i ordered the corn bread, mac n cheese, and slaw. They have a wide variety of sides though they were 5 star delicious they were still good. My sister ordered the pulled pork sandwich with fries. I wish i would have ordered pulled pork because it was phenomenal! They have amazing fries! I do wish the brisket wasnt shredded but it was still tasty. Good food, big portions, good price! Highly recommend!
