This is the best Jamaican food on this side of town. We live in paulding county and have been making the drive to this place for about 2 years. I have a jamaican sister in law and its as close to eating her food as I can get. The jerk chicken is great, the roti is a favorite, the portions are excellent and the patties are just right. The customer service is very good. We Carribeans are not looking for a 5 star customer service but 5 star food and this place delivers every single time.

My coworkers and I eat lunch at Contreju at least a few times a month. The food here is fantastic, the portions are large and well priced, and the service is friendly and quick. The jerk chicken is incredibly flavorful and falls right off the bone. The jerk pork will put a little sweat on your forehead, but you’ll be appreciative of this fact. Don’t skip the curry either, and if you have time, try the cooked to order dishes as well. It’s obvious that the staff(a family, unless I miss my mark!) cares about their customers, always checking up on how things are going for regulars. Seating is limited to about five tables and the interior is a bit worn, but it’s always clean and well kept. The patties can sell out during busy days, but that’s only because they’re so delicious. I would happily recommend The restaurant to anybody looking for authentic Jamaican dishes or Caribbean cuisine.

Yummy food and a very friendly staff. It’s a very small place but the good was really delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed the curry chicken and the chicken jerky.

Great food! I’ve lived in the area for years but only started to frequent this place over the past year or so. It’s now my Friday or Sat dinner spot on most weeks. I almost always get the jerk chicken. It is a bit spicy but had so much flavor, and you get a generous portion that will always get you full. Every blue moon I get a couple of burnt pieces but that’s bound to happen when they cook so much chicken each day. I’ve had the ox tails and curry goat before and they were both delicious. Go check it out for yourself!

We had been craving some Caribbean food(specifically some pigeon peas and rice), and had no idea this place was so close to us. What a pleasant surprise! When we walked in all we saw was a dining room, and a counter area. Looking past the counter area through a set of wooden saloon doors gave you a direct view of the kitchen. In the kitchen was an older Black lady all by herself in chef’s clothes. «JUSTTELLMEWATYAWANT,» she yelled from the back. A thick but pleasant Jamaican accent was very evident. My wife and I looked at each other and kind of laughed because at that moment we knew – based on our visits to the region – that this was going to be an authentic Caribbean dining experience. My wife ordered the jerk chicken with peas and rice, cabbage and fried plantains. Pretty much what she orders at every caribbean restaurant. But hey, when you find something you like you stick with it! I decided to step out of my comfort zone and opted for the jerk pork with the same sides. Mmm mmm mmmm… The pork was SO tender. And I know people say this all the time, but I can say with all honesty that it literally melted in my mouth. And when the sweat began to trickle from my temple, I knew that I was tasting the perfect level of spice from the jerk seasoning. The rice was a little dry, but there was enough delicious gravy from the meat to make this a non-issue. Prices were very reasonable, and the portion size was enormous too. My to-go box was filled to capacity, which was a very good thing. You see, because I enjoyed it so much for lunch that I had the rest for dinner that same night! Yah Mon!

Awesome. A hole in the wall with fantastic food. Service was friendly and food is the real deal. I had the curry chicken and it reminded me of my favorite Jamaican place in Miami. I tried my friends jerk chicken and it was also excellent. Portions are huge and the price will bring me back as often as I can when I’m in town.

Great food. Jamaican Champagne Cola is great as well. Reasonable price considering how authentic the food is. Would recommend the Curry Chicken. Will be going again.

All I can say is when my Jamaican friend said it taste like her Grandmother’s home cooking. I knew this was the best in Atlanta to get Caribbean food from. Just yummy. Two thumbs and two big toes up! This is more of a to-go spot.

I had to leave a review after reading others before I went there. The staff was very friendly. The young lady that greeted me had an incredible beautiful smile the whole time I was there. I went in with a smile and a happy attitude and that is exactly what I got back. The food was yummy. I was craving curry chicken. I ordered it and the meatballs. I could have had a little more curry on it but it was still yummy. The cabbage was cooked perfect as well as the plantains, rice and beans. I ordered a meat pie as well. Nothing hard about it. As a matter of fact it was so flaky that I left flakes of the crust all over my car. Meat was perfect and just the right amount of heat. AND… They have Faygo Red Pop!!! I’m happy and will return again!

I have been going to this place every week or every other week since 2008(so for the past 7 years), and I’ve never been disappointed. This is a family run establishment and it’s a pleasure to be a customer. Mrs. Judy, Mr. Trevor(husband), and Conway(son)(thus the name«Contreju»), as well as Mrs. Judy’s sister and Ms. Vindie are great! They always greet me by name and are just wonderful people. NOW, about the food-the portions are hefty and they give you a LOT of food(I always get the large, which is actually enough for 2 – 3 people). I always get the Jerk Chicken and sometimes the Curry Chicken, but I have tried everything on the menu. I have tried Jerk Chicken at other places around Metro Atlanta as well as the country and have yet to find anything better. I go here when I’m having a bad day and I go here when I’m having a great day. This place is like a home away from home. If you enjoy Jamaican food(or just good food in general) and you’re in Atlanta, go here! You will not be disappointed.

The food here is pretty good. My favorite is the curry chicken. They have a $ 6 lunch special during the week for their chicken dishes. The special also includes a can of soda. I would not recommend the brown stew chicken.

Every time I come to Georgia this is literally one of the first stops I make. I am Jamaican-American so I’ve had Jamaican cuisine all my life and this is on par with my mom’s cooking! The décor and set up is typical to Jamaican restaurants I’m used to in South Florida but the service is by far greater than any I’ve been to. Ms. Jud(the owner) and Ms. Vandie are so sweet and they always greet you with a big smile. I’ve seen them talk to customers like they’re family, all while still attending to other customers. I usually order a small Curry Chicken or Oxtail and I’ve NEVER been disappointed. The flavor is so good and the curry has just the right amount of spice. My husband usually orders Brown Stew Chicken or Curry Goat and I’ve never heard him complain yet. They give HUGE portions for a really good price. I always order a small and I’ve yet to finish my meal in one setting! Also, the Curry Chicken patty is quite possibly the best I’ve EVER had. If you want some authentic, right out of Jamaica food, visit Contreju, you won’t be disappointed…

Not traditional grilled jerk, but still some of the best jerk in Atlanta. The ladies that own and manage the restaurant are absolute joys. The patois lessons are appreciated!

Came here on a late Saturday afternoon and we were in and out in 7 – 10 minutes. Food was really good too. I had a small jerk chicken plate which turned out to be a hefty sized portion. It was a leg and a thigh, a big portion of rice and peas, and cabbage. I wish the jerk was a little more spicy and the flavors didn’t jump out at me but still better than a lot other places I’ve been to. The plantains were pretty good(and I’m not even a plantains person). The coco bread could have been a little softer though(tasted like it had been sitting out all day). The real only downfall was that we asked to sample a small piece of goat(never had goat meat before) and the lady said no.

I have eaten at several Jamaican restaurants in the Metro area and this is one of the best! I order the large oxtail meal with rice and peas, plantains, and cabbage… Hands down the best Oxtails I may have had in 10 yrs. the helped who took my order was nice and the food came out fast! They gave me a huge portion! Enough for dinner and lunch the next day! I will definitely continue to come to this restaurant!

Irie Irie Mon! If you are looking for some authentic Jamaican food and you just happen to be west of BFE, then Contreju is for chu mon! It’s mostly a takeout place but they have a handful of tables if you can’t wait(like me) to tear into their delicious Caribbean concoctions. It appears to be family owned and operated and the portions are HUMONGOUS! Don’t even think about trying to lift the Styrofoam containers with anything other than a forklift. Bad back? Get someone to carry it for you. They also have dozens of authentic Jamaican sodas. I got one thinking I would immerse myself in the Jamaican culture but then I made the mistake of checking out the sugar content. Are you ready for this? The ginger beer had 48 grams of sugar! Are you looking to kill me mon? I actually had to dilute this sugary elixir with some water just to take a swig. The cooler that houses the sweet beverages is so loud that the«analog relic of a tv» perched on top couldn’t even drown out the sound. Do they make mufflers for coolers… JK. Alrighty… enough of my tomfoolery… the whole reason you clicked on this was to hear about the food for goodness sakes! I ordered the Oxtail with rice and cabbage. Holy shitballs was it delicious! The meat was so tender and tasty and the rice was sticky enough to roll some sushi later on. My sexy«lock wearing» love ordered the jerk chicken and it was damn good too! It was plenty spicy and nothing like Eats jerk of course. It was more like stewed chicken but it fell off the bone like good chicken is supposed to do. Both entrees will provide you leftovers for days. I’m not saying make a special trip to BFE/Douglasville to get this yummy food but if you happen to be lost and are looking for some decent Jamaican food, this place is for you.
