My boyfriend and I love going to local restaurants. We moved to RI7 months ago and have been trying different places in the area looking for our new favorite spot and we finally found it at Crowther’s. I very rarely order fish but the baked cod caught my eye on the menu. It was delicious! My boyfriend got the ribeye and also loved it. The sides and dessert were equally great. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. Our bartender went above and beyond to ensure my boyfriend had cold non-alcoholic beers. Most people there were in their 60’s I’d say — but that doesn’t bother us. Everyone seemed lively and comfortable. A few younger people came in later and I heard the live music is a fun time. We will definitely be back soon.

Awesome service, great food! Here listening to live music(guitarist) over dinner on a Saturday night. Very family oriented, love this place. The booths are cool to sit in, next to the window. They have an Octoberfest menu going on right now. I got duck meatballs dipped in cherry sauce. Mmmmm. Lyndsay was our server and she is a great waitress. I give Crowthers five stars!

We came for lunch on a Sunday and could not have regretted it more. We were trying to have a family day and just stop by a local restaurant to avoid the franchises. We get there at 12:40 and were still waiting for our food at 2:15. We overlook the horrible décor — like an old folk’s home. And sit by a window that you can hardly see out of. Dark, gloomy and 1980’s is all I can say. The waitress stated she was all alone. We tried to be patient, did our best, but we have three kids. We had to repeatedly ask for my daughters water. It took so long we needed refills to our ice tea and diet coke — no refills. The glasses were a little bit larger than an orange juice glass — hardly worth the $ 2.50 each time! We revert to water for the hour and half wait. Meanwhile people come and go. No we are fuming. Another waitress finally showed up and we told her we have to go — we’ve waited long enough. As she is talking to us the other waitress brings the food… boy how I wish we left sooner. The food is mediocre at best. Grilled cheese for two kids was not grilled in some areas, and burned in others. My daughters boneless chicken was overcooked and had some kind of black cinder-y bone it it? No idea what that was. My shrimp and cheese ravioli was awful. Shrimp cooked fine but the«sauce» was just watery and only tasted of garlic due to the excessive chopped garlic in the«sauce». No parm cheese offered, the pile of garlic I was left with was the only seasoning — the ravioli was uncooked around the edge, crispy-like. We eat as fast as we can and get the excessive bill. The waitress did her best to make it up — gave me a free Ice Tea because she doesn’t have to go to the bar and my one daughter some ice cream. But overall — NEVER going back. And NEVER wuold recommend to someone. On my way out i went to the bathroom simply due to being there nearly 3 hours — and boy — college dorm-like. Ew. Avoid — they don’t get the population anymore so they charge for absolutely everything driving even more people away. Watch restaurant makeover shows and learn how to run a restaurant… owner needs to close it down.

Went in on a Sunday evening with my husband and our 2 daughters(6 and 9 months). We live local and always like to try local small places out rather than all the chain restaurants. Based on the website and 4 star reviews on Unilocal,we thought it would be worth trying. Well… Do not judge a book by its cover! This place does not stand out when you drive by and looks VERY dated. Even when walking into the entryway it was like stepping back in time — think dark wood panelling(and an old crooked bookshelf??). When we walked into the empty dining room, the host(who was also our server) asked if we had reservations. We sat down, laughing and wondering what we had gotten ourselves into, but kept an open mind — so glad we did, as this turned out to be such a fun night out for the family! The service was great, not just our server, but all the staff were extremely friendly and great with the kids. I really appreciated that any server walking by removed dirty/empty dishes from our table rather than leaving them there to stack up until bringing the bill. The food was really great! Not fine dining, but certainly better than any chain restaurant out there. It seemed like everyone there, both guests and staff, were just really happy and pleasant. Before we left my 6 yr old said this was the best dinner ever! Will be returning and would def recommend. If they updated the décor inside and out, this would be a 5 star restaurant.

A hidden gem! $ 1 oysters on Monday, all you can eat fish & chips on Tuesday, $ 12 naked lobster Thursday, delicious Stuffie’s! We were staying in Westport and looking for something open on the later end. Technically they’re open til midnight on a Monday, but stop serving food at 10pm. Unilocal needs to update hours & menu. But the food is stellar, ambiance is in the works, owner is super friendly and really cares about cooking up high quality food. Good spot, great prices!

The naked lobster. Thursday nights. Its a cant miss, a martini and a lobster. Followed up by a gansett tall can. Life is soooo good. This place has it all and is a cant miss.

What a gem. 12 dollar cod fish and chips… another example to avoid the shoreline places. To the gal from Swansea(Swansea…seriously? lol) who complains about the«80s/90s décor»…I suspect most of the folks here wont miss your wannabe princess presence…

I was staying in Little Compton for a few months and became a regular at Crowther’s. This place is just about the Platonic ideal of the small-town all-in-one family restaurant/seafood spot/local watering hole. The waitstaff is friendly and attentive, and the food is some of the best I had in New England, including forays into Boston, Newport, and Cape Cod. I came here a dozen times in various moods — sometimes to get dinner, sometimes to meet people at the bar, sometimes to sit by myself and read, and enjoyed the whole experience every time. Do yourself a favor and stop by.

We love Crowthers! Two parts of the restaurant, a relaxed bar and a normal dining room. The bar section is very comfortable and is usually where we go to eat. They have great weekly specials, and a pretty larger menu, but not the most kid friendly. They do have some cheap items, but it can get a bit pricey in here if you go for the full meat and seafood entrees. During the summer they have a cheap weekly lobster special, which is a must have. They also have several all you can eat nights, such as fish and chips or pasta. We visit here atleast 2 – 3 times a month.

I don’t even know where to start. We came here for a late lunch on a Saturday afternoon. We walked in the front door and hello 80’s décor! There was a large group on the other side of the dining room. We stood near the hostess station and waited… and waited. A waitress went to the large group, saw us, and ignored us. We waited… and waited. I went to the nearby ladies room(which was a bit nasty), came out and continued to wait. Finally the waitress came over and told us we could sit wherever we would like and that there was also a pub area. We decided to check out the pub area. Hello 70’s décor! The pub area seemed to be the place to sit as there were about 10 people sitting at the bar. We chose a hightop nearby… and waited for the waitress to bring us menus. She finally did and told us the specials. She eventually came back by, asked for our drink orders(Peak organic draft for my husband and J lohr Cabernet for me) and came back with those quickly. So then we waited for her to came back for our food order. While we were waiting, someone came to the bar, ordered a drink, was served said drink and managed to order food, all with five minutes. Us? Yep, waiting. At this point my husband looked at me and said if she didn’t come by soon we were leaving. Things have to be pretty bad for him to say that. Things started to improve slightly after that. She came by and we ordered. We started with chicken tenders with Asian chili sauce. When they arrived the sauce was served on the side. The coating on the tenders was fairly dry and would have benefited from being tossed in the sauce. They were passable though. My husband’s meal came with soup, which was a beef and cabbage. It was tasty, but only lukewarm, not hot. For an entrée my husband got the salmon, with his choice of starch and veg. He chose sautéed spinach and pasta salad. He thought it was OK. I had a Caeser salad and added on sea scallops. While I did get 5 – 6 sea scallops, it cost $ 10.99 to add them on, putting my salad, which didn’t come with soup, $ 4 – 5 dollars more than my husband’s salmon. While it was OK, I’ve certainly had better and in no way did it justify the price. During the meal, it was a group of regulars that came and went at the bar. They were all greeted by name and the waitress knew their drink orders. This seems to be a place for locals to gather because really, there isn’t anything else around for miles. The waitress seemed to be both the bartender and waitress while another employee(perhaps the owner or bartender) sat and watched. We paid our bill and gladly left. We came here because I had purchased a Limelight deal. If it weren’t for that, I don’t think we would have stuck it out. We won’t be back.

We stopped at Crowther’s while meandering through Rhode Island tonight(a Saturday about 630PM). The atmosphere is neighborly, with regulars at the bar and at tables. The restaurant has a large front room, which was mostly empty, but all the tables in the back room near the bar, and most of the bar, was taken. Everyone was watching the Red Sox grab defeat from the jaws of victory at the hands of the Yankees. The owner, who has run Crowthers with his son for four years, took our drink order(we sat at the bar) while the bartender was busy. He made a great manhattan and cosmo. We each had a stuffie as an appetizer — very good, not the best I have ever had but much better than most. Nice and hot, crusty with a moist interior, lots of clam flavoe and chorizo. We both had salads with our entrees, and the blue cheese dressing was excellent — chunky and thick. The hot italian bread served with a garlic/hot pepper oil was very good. For entrees we had the pot roast and the Portuguese little necks over pasta. The pot roast was very good, fork tender and tasty and the vegetable medley of fresh peas, freshly cooked zucchini and mushrooms was surprisingly good. The gravy was tasty but a bit thick for my tast. The littleneck dish was awesome — lots of littlenecks and chorizo with wine over linguine. Crowthers is a place you will either happen upon on a summer drive, or make a trip to — it is in the middle of nowhere between Little Compton and Westport. It is worth a stop, for sure.

Tried Crowthers tonight and was satisfied. I tried the pot roast and it was quite tasty. My fiancé’ had the corned beef sandwich and it was good as well. Food seemed fresh, bread wasn’t very good but not a deal breaker. Service was excellent from server Lyndsey, very attentive and professional. We would go back to try other menu items.

The food is better than you would expect and service is very good, the staff Is friendly. Walking in the front door is like walking on to the set of an old movie. Go in the back entrance to the bar area, there are cozy booths and it’s a good atmosphere to have a meal and a beer.

Crowther’s is not an easy place to review. The food is much better now since the renovations. Try the polenta fries. Although the bartenders are friendly and will make a strong drink, the place kind of smells funny. I never go there on a Saturday night but I hear things can get pretty crazy on the weekends. Like 50-year-old women are taking their shirts off and dancing around topless kind of crazy. Oh wait, that was on a Thursday night. Sometimes they have live music, which is usually just a pretty shitty local band. Also, Crowthers always has cheap, late night food options like«stuffies»(stuffed quahogs) and chourizo pockets, a RI favorite, which the bartenders will be happy to nuke up for you. An older crowd kind of place, it’s best you come here with a group of friends so you’ll be entertained. If not, you’ll always see the same people, which includes one old guy who sits alone at the bar drinking glass after glass of red wine and then passes out. Better yet, just get the hell out of Little Compton and see what the rest of the world has to offer.

I’ve been slipping to Crowther’s for a good fifteen years, even though I no longer live in the area. I’ve left the area, the restaurant has changed hands, and most of the original staff is no longer there. Nevertheless, there’s something about Crowther’s. The food is consistently good, and the restaurant still packs a crowd despite the restaurant’s clandestine location on the dark and serpentine Pottersville Road. Despite my long-term patronage, I fear that it’s not quite what it was. Creative specials seem to be lacking, as is a good dessert selection. Also, the one waitress who has been there as long as I’ve been going acts as if she’s never seen me or my family before. It’s all about the service, and the warmth that this restaurant used to emit just doesn’t seem to be there anymore.
