So heard good things about the place and decided to go for a lunch. Restaurant has a decent view if you’re on the back deck, but if you’re more than 4 you don’t get to sit out. Badly designed sitting arrangement, tables are too close to each other. Going to food: started with their lobster bisque, Horrible. We were told it has creamy texture and when tried it had a buttery/oily texture and no flavor of lobster. Fish sandwich was below average, served with worst pickle I have had. Waitress didn’t pay enough attention to the table and was not aware of the offerings. Overrated and overpriced for what they serve.

I love this place the atmosphere is fantastic in the manager Michelle is truly an asset to this restaurant. She immediately made me feel comfortable and welcome. We were leaving she was full of wonderful advice about things to do in the greater Westport area. With her smile and wonderful personality coupled withGreat local seafood you cannot go wrong say hi to Michelle when you get there

Back Eddy is the place to go after a day at Horseneck. This was my first time in Westport and I had a phenomenal experience with the back eddy. I recommend the steamers, stuffed clams, and crab cakes! You also have to check out the back deck where you can have a drink on the dock while you wait or after dinner.

On the advice of two friends I took my wife and three of my four boys and seven of my friends to The Back Eddy to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary after renewing our Vows on Horseneck Beach. Fantastic experience. Great place, although it was crowded the staff was warm and friendly, they were prepared and the food was awesome. Thank you Nancy Stratton and Kieth Maloney for great advice.

So lets see where to begin. We were seated in some back room that had 6 tables in it and about a 8 foot high ceiling. We couldn’t hear each other think, nevermind talk. It took about 15 minutes to get a drink order, another 20 to get a food order, and another 30 to get the bill while the dishes sat on the table. As far as the food goes, its average seafood for the area priced where it doesn’t belong. The raw bar was excellent, aside from the oysters being smaller than the little necks. The chowder is very good as well. The entrees, there were 4 on the table — none of them were spectacular. I probably won’t go back here, the food, service, and ambiance isn’t worth the hefty bill at the end.

We went here with my family to celebrate my birthday. We called at 3:00(the earliest they answer the phone) to make a reservation for 5 people at 6:30 for the next night(a Sat.) I was disappointed to see that we were placed at basically the worst seat in the restaurant(farthest left, parking lot view) and my husband was sat at the end of our booth with a chair pulled up. The food was good– Scallops wrapped in bacon and succotash. The lobster sauté was a bit over cooked and the portion was quite small(compared to others we’ve had). Passed on the $ 8 ea. dessert to go out for ice cream instead. Kinda disappointing for a $ 220+ meal. It had been about 8 years since we had been and probably won’t return real soon.

Somewhat pricey but I’ve never had a bad meal. Great place to go have a drink on the deck on a hot summer night. Crème brûlée is yummy!

One of my favorites. Pricy but so many great things. You can also do just apps and keep your costs low. On the water. The place is literally on pilings and has a dock that you can drink on. Pull up in your boat. Stuffed quahogs are excellent. Great fish and chips. Lauren’s Lazy Lobster is excellent when available. Black and blue tuna is amazing, you get large cud of what look like great sushi grade tuna. You won’t be disappointed with anything. Blood orange margaritas when available are excellent and they always have one eyed jakes which are fantastic.

Went for lunch on Saturday and was handed their Dinner Menu. They have no luncheon menu. …So if you want a dinner entrée for lunch, or one of their 3 «sandwiches»: Fried Fish, Hot Dog or Pull Pork, go. I keep on trying this place, only because of its wonderful location. The food is mediocre, at best. I’ve hoped they would step up and get a better chef, but I think they know with the few dining options on the area, they can get away with it. It’s insulting and it’s a shame. This was my last attempt. Go for a sunset drink on the deck. But don’t eat here.

My husband and I dined here on a Friday night. I ordered a sangria, which was small and just okay. We both got chowder, which we thought was great, and an order of littlenecks which were super fresh and sweet. He ordered the pulled pork, and enjoyed it. I ordered the fish and chips, and being a Southcoast local, I had high expectations. They were not met. While the portion was acceptable, the fish was awful… overcooked and almost bitter. I can say one of the worst, and way overpriced at $ 20. Thank goodness for the fries, or the dish would have been a complete waste. Our dinner for 2 came to $ 95; a price I don’t mind paying for an enjoyable meal, but this did not live up to the cost.

My boyfriend and I went here for the first time tonight and honestly it was a little disappointing. The prices were pretty high in comparison to the quality of the food served. For an appetizer I got clam chowder. Now last time I checked a chowder was thick cream based, well chowder. This«chowder» had the consistency of chicken noodle soup. The flavor wasn’t bad per se, but I have never had a chowder that consistency before and it made the overall satisfaction rather bland. For entrees I ordered the Crab and Cod Cakes from the appetizers because I wasn’t too hungry and my boyfriend got the Classic Fish and Chips. Now I know appetizers are smaller than entrees and as I wasn’t too famished I didn’t mind;however, my meal was about $ 12 and it came with 2 small half dollar sized cakes. They were good but for that price and the size I would have expected at least 3 maybe 4. My boyfriends Fish and Chips were mediocre nothing special and probably weren’t worth the $ 20. Lastly, was the dessert we had the Buttermilk Chocolate Cake. Sounds decadent but was sadly off the rocker. It was quite dry and tasted like an ordinary boxed cake recipe so wasn’t anything to brag about. It was also that weird hot/warm temperature and considering it was a slice we knew it got nuked. All things considered it does have a great atmosphere and friendly staff and though I wouldn’t recommend the food, I would definitely recommend it as a good place to grab a drink and look out on the ocean!

The view is magnificent. There is inside and outside dining. The restaurant is a little on the expensive side but not crazy expensive. The food presentation is very good. I would even say exceptional. Each plate was garnished with edible flowers. Had three different dishes sword tuna and fish and chips. They are all excellent. Cooked perfectly as we ordered and accompanied by interesting sides. The tuna had the best grilled zucchini I’ve ever had. The swordfish came with a cold vinegar potato salad it was excellent. And the fish were just fish and chips. There was no room for dessert but I did take sweet rice and pineapple dish home. Also worthy of mention was their iced tea. The staff was exceptionally friendly and cordial. Love the food love the restaurant. Forgot to mention they brought these great little sliced cucumber pickles before the meal came and although you had to ask they had an excellent bread.

I arrived on a Saturday evening without a reservation. No worry for me, though as I hit up the raw bar that was dockside, and had a half a dozen oysters and some swordfish kabobs. I was able to sit on the pier while I enjoyed the snack. Once I was seated, I enjoyed a light clam chowder and some ceviche. Definitely worth the wait if you can get a seat out on the docks. Very chill vibe and the food was solid.

Yes, you pay a price for excellent food. It was about 75 for two with an appetizer and two iced teas. The seafood is some of the best we’ve had. We had the sea bass special and the fried New Bedford scallops. Both were out of this world good. Cooked and seasoned to perfection. Our server was no frills but very attentive and recommended our meals. The deviled eggs from hell were amazing too. We did have to wait an hour to be seated. While we waited we had a margarita, and bourbon and coke. That ran us 18.75. So all in all a great experience but skip the bar.

I had so much fun the day we ended up here after riding a Ducati around SE Mass, I might be giving it a slightly too enthusiastic review. But the view is so beautiful and the friendly bartenders make strong good drinks. My clam chowder was spectacular and unusually light. If you’re looking for thick, heavy New England clam chowder you will be disappointed but I wish I could find such chowder in any of the other cities I spend time. The cod appetizer(in a clamshell with sausage) was terrific. Westport, MA as John D noted, is hardly Padnaram(where Duchovny lives), so maybe the prices seems high. But coming from LA, NYC and SB, they seemed reasonable to me. The Back Eddy is large so even if we had been there later when it was more crowded, it still would have felt calm and quiet. Given this is «the only game in town,» it’s a 4-star.

I have eaten here many times. The food is good, the location outstanding, but the prices afford more refined service than is presented. I ate at the Back Eddie this week with 7 girl friends. The service was fast, however the wait staff never knew who got what. When you have $ 26 + entrees, the staff should not have to ask where each one goes. It should also come out at the same time, there was not a big gap, but we sat wondering — was I the only one who for an appetizer? Only to have two minutes go by and the rest of the salads were delivered. In short polish the service and it will get more stars. Great striped bass ceviche.

First time eating here not too long ago. On such a gorgeous day I wanted to sit outside and eat seafood, specifically shrimp cocktail. The shrimp was large and very fresh, but portion size was smaller at 4 shrimp. Luckily my awesome boyfriend shared his 2 shrimp from his raw bar platter! The Satanic cocktail sauce was perfectly spicy and flavorful. The side of asparagus was tasty, but I think there was only about 6 or 7 pieces for $ 6.00! Not a good value there. Boyfriend liked the complimentary home made pickles too.

Beautiful building in a gorgeous waterfront setting. Last time I was there I had fish & chips and my dining companion had fried clams. While not bad, these were probably my least enjoyed meals here. They seem to be at their best with more inventive preparations, and anything with a Portuguese slant. My only quibble is I wish they’d make the back deck an extension of the restaurant, decorate it accordingly and serve full meals. Unless they’ve changed this, you can only get a deck menu of things like hotdogs & hamburgers.
