Mexican shawarma? Say it isn’t so! As other Unilocal have mentioned, the star protein at the Trompo King is the namesake meat: the tender juicy pork roasted on a spinning skewer(a la Mediterranean style) then sliced in strips and heaped onto your plate. Feeding a family or planning to tailgate? A couple of pounds of trompo with all the fixings(is it weird to praise the grilled onions?) to-go is a guaranteed crowd-pleaser. Don’t let the language barrier or the gas-station surrounds get in your way of good food; the folks running the kitchen know they are selling a good product and are very accommodating.

Had the trompo tacos and they were amazing! It may be in a gas station but don’t let that turn you away! The tacos are delicious.

This place is located at the Chevron gas station’s convenience store. It can be a little intimidating, but sometimes you just have hope for the best. You place your order at the cash register first, then take your receipt to the taco window/line. Their tacos are ordinary but considering what little there is around, i.e. Taco Delight, you’ll definitely get your monies worth. We ordered a few each: chicken, carnitas, Trompo and Fajita(as mentioned in other reviews, is more like a brisket taco). The Trompo was/is their best. It’s served on corn tortillas with onions and cilantro — street style. What is Trompo? For us gringos, we know it better by Al Pastor(pork) which is cooked on a vertical rotisserie, a similar adaptation to the Greek gyros. We rate this place a little more than 3 stars but no more than 4, really.

Not bad at all for a taco joint in LIttle Elm. This place is similar to some of the taco stands south of 635 but not quite as good. I’m giving it 4 stars instead of 3 since there’s probably not a better taco place in this area

My boyfriend and I ordered 3 tacos with beans, rice and a drink. We got two beef and one brisket. The tacos were pretty tasty! I will be going back for more!

YES! This place does tacos right! Amazing trompo tacos and the carnitas were pretty fantastic as well. I was feeding a group of 8, so they suggested the 30 taco special — 30 for the price of 25. Heck yes! We got trompo, carnitas and fajita and all of them were fantastic! The fajita wasn’t my favorite because it was a little more like roast beef texture than strips of fajita beef, but it was still tasty. These tacos are definitely a little slice of authentic heaven, served on corn tortillas with just chopped onion and cilantro and some delicious grilled onions and peppers. Don’t be scared, just get some… lots of them!

This place is great however! As we all know you better deliver on the salsa! And theirs is good if you can talk them into giving you any! I’ve been three times ordering $ 20 – 30 of food and specifically ask repeatedly for a specific amount and very time I get two or three, for 10 – 15 tacos or whatever and they always whisper to each other and act like they are putting it in and I finally asked once after I got my food what the hell and was given one more?! So no more done I mean it completes the food ! However even Taco Bell does this why I’ll never know I mean I’ll never understand this other than cost, it’s like ordering a pizza and getting one parm packet, or fries with one ketchup packet !? Let it go guys if it’s that good be proud most people judge taco joints first by things like their hot sauce!!!

So I went there because I heard they have 5 tacos for $ 5 on Saturdays, but they don’t have that deal anymore so I was disappointed. I still tried the trompo and carnita taco, and I gotta say it was pretty damn good. They double the corn tortilla and give a good amount of meat… also came with onions, cilantro, green and red hot sauce, lime and hot peppers. Def try it out, not as cheap as people say but its worth it.

This is one of those restaurants that people flock to because it’s good food and then you’re wondering«what the heck is this doing in a gas station?» Pay the man who speaks broken English at the gas station registers and then take your order over to the gentlemen cooking the food that creates the great smell in the mini mart. In a quick manner your food will come out fresh and tastes pretty decent. I had the trompo(which circulates over an open flame), the carne asada, and the carnitas tacos. They are all very good and come with some great salsas. My wife had a delicious carne asada quesadilla that had a great tortilla. I docked a star because the rice and beans need some serious help. They are very bland and tasteless. All in all, you know the place is pretty legit when the local mexican workers flood in here for lunch and dinner. They are like roaches to good mexican food! Nice job Trompo King!

Just came in today, to try this place out, based on fellow Unilocalers. I drive out in the freezing rain, thoughts in my head, oh no not another gas station taqueria, place an order of some trompo, chicharrón and lengua, I figure, let’s get a good mix for a review, the trompo at the place is rolling, place looks clean, lots of people in and out placing orders(A good sign). Finally get my order and roll home, my SUV gets filled immediately with the smells of grilled meat and onions, I can’t drive fast enough to get home, once home I place a smörgåsbord of tacos in my plate, green salsa, red salsa, grilled onions, limes just yummy, ok back to the tacos, let me start by saying this place is really a legit contender, North Texas finally has a place no more driving to Dallas or Lewisville or Carrollton now we have our own in Little Elm, man do they stack the tacos, absolutely no skimping on meat, heck I can make 2 tacos with the amount of meat they use and double tortilla, tasty taco de trompo and juicy not overloaded with condiments. Chicharrones very tasty, lengua nice and firm not squishy, good flavor not gamey. I am so happy for this place. Now what I want these guys to do is add pineapple to the trompo tacos it was almost non existant, place on top of the trompo and let the juices flow. Excellent tacos you wont be disappointed.

Let’s start with the obvious. It’s in a gas station. So while there are a few tables and booth seats this is not where you’re going to take a date to impress on a first date. Unless, that is, your date likes real Mexican goodness. The tacos are the real deal and priced like the fast food fakes so you get excellent food at a really low cost. Oh, and you can top of your tank while you’re there. It’s a win.

Excellent tacos! No al pastor, but the Trumpo(rotisserie pork) taste similar and is fantastic(tender, juicy and flavorful) On Saturdays, they offer a special of 5 Trumpo tacos with all of the fixings(onions, cilantro, grilled onions and 2 types of hot sauce) for $ 5. Single tacos are $ 1.39 each and they also have other options like tortas, burritos, and burgers. You can also come in and buy the meat in bulk. Great food and great service, and I finally have a good taqueria within 5 minutes if my house.

Crazy good pastor de trompo. I look forward to trying other things, especially their tortas and burritos.
