What a rip off. I called on Monday 8÷17÷15 to ask about their wholesale tomato and peach prices. I was told they were $ 30 a bushel. I asked if they took Food Stamps. I was told yes. I asked if they wanted me to call ahead too reserve the produce. They told me there was no need to do that that they would have it. I called back Thursday 8÷20÷15 to confirm all of the above and to let them know that I would be in the following day around 5pm to pick it up. I was told okay it’d be ready for me. I drove nearly an hour to get there because they had some of the best prices(or so I thought). I get there, the woman at the counter had no clue what I was talking about, tried calling the male that I would have spoken to, he was unreachable. I was waiting for nearly an hour while she tried to figure out what was going on. She told me they don’t sell produce by the bushel. The sell them by the box. Which was supposed to be half a bushel for $ 30. The woman gave me a patronizing attitude and basically told me she wasn’t supposed to give me the wholesale price because I wasn’t a business and the normal customer price was much more but she would anyways. I decided to take 2 because I had everything lined up to can the next day. REALLY didn’t want to spend that much. I went to pay and was told they’ve never accepted food stamps. I ended up with one box(that was supposed to be half a bushel. She called me back when I got home to tell me nobody from that farm stand had ever spoken to me. I have phone records that prove otherwise. I got home and weighed it and it was a quarter of a bushel. We are on a very, very tight budget. I feel so cheated and lied to it’s not even funny. Be warned.

I picked up 8 dozen ears of corn for canning this morning. It had just been picked, and it was so sweet that we were eating the raw kernels like candy! And every ear was big and fat — wonderful stuff. There are several places I can get corn locally, but I always go to Gary’s.

I have not met Gary, it sounds from the other posts like he’s a nice guy. BUT that said, I don’t understand why people go to this farm stand. I’ve only been a few times and my reactions have ranged from«meh» to feeling ripped off. Paid through the nose last summer for blueberries, got home and found 1⁄3 of the pack was rotten. Corn on the cob was nothing special. And this weekend, bought an expensive Christmas tree that dropped about 25% of its needles the instant we cut the twine off. Sorry, won’t be going back here, here are plenty of other farm stands in the area to choose from…

Gary’s is a great local place. Gary has a good sense of humor, and the fruits and vegetables are local and fresh. I am a regular in the summer, and am always sad to see the season go.

Whether it’s for Christmas trees and homemade apple cider in the winter, or fresh vegetables and farm products year-round. Gary’s is the traditional farm stand. I went in there today… oh, look spectacular broccoli… when was is picked… oh, today. Super friendly and helpful people, plus there is a hot dog stand in the parking lot.
