The line was out the door but the tables were empty. That should have been our first clue as to the slow service and overall bad experience. The only reason I gave 2 stars was for the fried zucchini, which was delicious and the low prices. The potato salad was NOT cold but room temperature and I was afraid to eat it. The chicken leg was the smallest I have ever seen, enough to fill up nobody. The décor was completely outdated and the building was completely dilapidated. The airvents were covered with black gunk, and the ceiling panels were filled with bugs, mmm now thats appetizing. We could not find a clean table — macaroni and cheese, utensils, napkins and crackers were under the tables. I happened to find a rag to clean our table so we were able to sit down. If we had seen the condition of the restaurant prior to getting our food we would have ran out of there. This place is disgusting. *** The best thing about this place was the girl outside the restaurant selling her baked goods to pay for her college tuition. The peanut butter cookies were incredible. My recommendation– skip the Barbque and just eat the cookies.

Absolutely delicious BBQ espcially for the price. Was in Lockhart earlier this month, a friend recommended we go here and I was amazed that such great food could be had for such a low price. Delicious, will be going here again when I’m in town.

Horrible Bar B Q if you are ever in East Te, as go to Bodacous, where you see them cutting the brisket by hand, and chopping it. This was a huge disapointment, friendly service though. Wouldn’t go back.

Excellent BBQ. This is a medium sized diner with minimal frills and excellently cooked meat. I enjoyed the turkey most, although it is all good. Of course to each his own on sauce preference.

Stopped by on our way through. The gal Brenda who waited on us at the drive thru was very nice. We ordered the super sandwiches with brisket and sliced beef sandwiches, the beef is extremely tasty. My kids who are very picky loved the food. They were very quick and efficient as this is a busy day.

When my family went there to eat the meat all tasted like charcoal starter fluid. I don’t even know if they use starter fluid but that’s the taste it was on the meat. I would not return to that place.

Not as good as in the past, but still the best bargain in town. Good variety of sides, i love the fried okra. Our group stops here every year. Staff is friendly.

The food wasn’t bad. We got huge portions of sides, but small amounts of meat. Sanitary conditions were sketchy at best. You walk right past the sides where anyone can cough, sneeze, etc. you can pick up a piece of white bread off the counter – right off the counter – or out of the bag that who-knows-who has stuck their hand in. Customer service was lacking. Please, restaurant owners/managers – teach your young people(or any age for that matter) basic skills, such as hello, how may I help you, you get two sides with that, etc. I don’t feel any great urge to return – not sure what the locals see in this place.

I have been eating BBQ in Lockhart for over 30 years and this place USED to be my favorite because the prices were very reasonable. The price of brisket at the other places in town has been over $ 12.00 pound for a few years but CT had kept it affordable at $ 6-$ 7.95 until a couple months ago when they raised it to $ 12.00/lb! Raised the price by over 50%? Ridiculous because their meat is actually below average. That is outrageous because the quality is not even close to Blacks brisket. I also noticed the long lines both inside and at the drive thru are gone most of the time so the locals appear to have started staying away and I dont blame them. The sides also doubled in prices and arent very good anyway. I wont be back…

Let me start with the food of course. Brisket is almost always on point. Great selection of sides as well. Sweet tea is top notch. Staff is friendly and prices are decent. This is my usual go to bbq spot when I’m in the area. My only complaint is lines can be pretty long so be prepared.

Hit or miss, but this is our regular for BBQ. Today was a miss for sure. We got there as they were closing and only ordered 2 Beef Fajita Tacos. Ended up with 2 Burnt Brisket Tacos and not really Brisket, it was like the leftovers!!! So disappointed. Don’t give out old stuff just because you want to go home. Tell us you don’t have any and we could of very easily ordered something else.

Don’t want to down grade stars, but they have raised the drink prices to $ 1.84 for jumbo and refills are still 25 cents.

Tasty pulled pork today. Wasn’t even hungry. Friendly service and super fast. Lots of great selections for sides here. The most in Lockhart.

We ordered a family pack with 1 lb of moist brisket, 2 sausage rings, fried okra, mac n cheese, and potato salad. The sausage is AMAZINGLY juicy and flavorful. The brisket is good but was not as tender as I’d like. The line was long and VERY hot. To get a drink refill you’ve got to stand in another long hot line. The place has broken tables everywhere and definitely needs a deep cleaning. There are flies EVERYWHERE! Even on the serve your self sides! The price is so right though. Under 20 bucks for all that food and drinks! I want to say this place will be my dirty little secret :)

While I was in Lockhart, I was talking with one of the locals, crying about how expensive the place down the road was that sold those Flintstone sized beef ribs. I was advised to go to Chisholm Trail BBQ where one could get more bang for the buck. I took that person’s advise and was at Chisolm Trail in a flash. I crabbed a to-go container and started to load it down with fried okra, fried zucchini and mac & cheese. I got the three meat plate, beef brisket, pork ribs and sausage. The meats were nicely seasoned and smoked to perfection. I love it when the gristle is soft and easy to chew. There really was no need for BBQ sauce which I thought was a bit too much on the sweet side. I must admit that it was nice to go to this venue without having first to go to the bank to get them to float you a loan for lunch. Indeed, I will be back

My husband is from Lockhart, but I’m not so this isn’t a biased review. I give it five stars bc the food is tasty, fried okra is always fresh, and the prices are amazing! Compared to Blacks, Smutty’s, or Kruez, it still tastes the same, but costs a third of the price. The only reason the other three are more popular, is bc of the experience of walking thru the pit, but once you’ve done it once, you don’t need to waste you money there again. At Chisolm, we always get out chopped beef on bun, loaded potatoes, sausage, or quarter chicken. Can’t go wrong here.

Came here after a morning of fishing and shootin hogs! Came here due to it being Easter Sunday and Smittys being closed :(. Place was poppin, there are two lines, one for call in orders and one for take out/dine in. Instructions are on a board when you walk in «Grab a place serve your sides and when you get to register request meant»…Simple! Grabbed my plate, loaded that sucker up with Potato salad and Mac and cheese, threw a little little of some corn bread and requested half lb of pork ribs, brisket, and sausage. Staff, not too friendly, I get it, Easter Sunday and you’re at work and it is busy as all get out. Anyways, you seat yourself which there were plenty of tables. Food, AWESOME!!! Brisket was A1 and the ribs, man oh man. Sausage was also very good. Only thing I did not like was the cornbread and Mac and cheese, it was too runny. Potato salad is loaded with mustard, which one of the people dining with me mentioned, I love mustard so it was great to me. All in all, I would visit again, but def prefer smittys. ** Forgot to mention prices, it is very decently priced, I think I paid $ 12 and that was including a drink.

There are some very good reasons that why this place is so popular with the locals: Reasonable prices, lots of self serve both hot & cold side items, they have beer and even a drive-thru. On the other hand there’s a very good reason why it’s not considered to be in the same league with the other Big 3 in town: Lesser quality food, period. Not that it’s particularly bad, just not of the highest quality. Hence it’s a budget friendly restaurant that’s about just average BBQ.

Well. The good. It’s open on Sunday. This place is a long standing bbq place and it has some of the least expensive bbq on the bbq trail. You get two meats and three sides for $ 7.50. That includes brisket and sausage. Cheaper than most places by a mile. The quality is good. Not great. The bbq is good again not great. Will I come back? Yes if it’s on a Sunday and nothing else is open. It will never be my first choice. Now with that out of the way. The cashier at this place was really rude? Just like at City Market. What’s up with that. I kept thinking, is the same lady and she has two jobs? What gives? So if your on a budget and want bbq and its a Sunday, this is your place. Oh and like some of the previous reviews, the line is not spotless.

A quick caveat this is one of four reviews. For my birthday I decided to do a Lockhart BBQ crawl. I wanted to finally try out all the BBQ and figure out which one was the best. The way the crawl was going down was we were getting a pound of BBQ and a few sausage links to share with group. We also got BBQ sauce, bread, onions and pickles to accompany our delicious meats. I decided that we would start south and work our way north through Lockhart. Chisholm Trail was our first stop. We walked in, walked passed the sides and up to counter to get down to business. The lady seemed surprised that we didn’t get any sides. I told her that we were going to be going to all the places to try out all the BBQ in town. She had smirk on her face and started nodding. I asked her to tell us why their place has the best BBQ in town. She was super friendly and started to give me a little history and was giving us our opinion about the BBQ in town. We got our feast and made our way to the table. We all dove in. Right off the bat brisket wasn’t anything exciting. It was decent but there wasn’t a lot flavor or any smokiness that I expect when I eat brisket. I liked the sausage but it was tough to cut through and the casing came all off when I was trying to cut it. It had good texture and spice. I was not a fan of the BBQ sauce. When I poured it out on my plate it seemed to separate so the flavors separated also. This is the only place in town that has homemade bread. That was delicious! Put a piece of sausage in it with some sauce and you’re good to go! Sweet tea was good. There was the faint taste of tea and then a decent balance of sweet. Overall not that bad of a place. I will say that out of the four places this is the cheaper place in town.
