I stopped at this place driving down to SoCal. I was craving a donut and this was the next place on the road. We stopped in at approximately noon on a Sunday. I know it’s a little late in the day but they remain open until 5pm. The donut selection was VERY scarce. We had 4 options, cream cheese and fruit filled croissant, chocolate chip filled/topped donut, apple fritter, and a chocolate butter milk donut. Ordering 3 of the 4 choices since there was three of us, I’ll start with the strawberry cream cheese croissant. First of all, what cream cheese? It had none! Secondly, there was a VERY thin spread of strawberry jam, no fruit, no cream cheese. It was just a big air pocket and a little dry. Don’t even get me started on the chocolate chip donut. It was a good idea, but very poorly executed. The middle of my donut was RAW! Uncooked salty yeasty gooey dough. I have never encountered a raw donut in my life! This is a problem. Lastly, the apple fritter. As I was ordering this an employee from the back came out and took a donut right out of the case with her bare hand. She started eating it right there and laughed about it. Back to the apple fritter, how hard is it to mess one up?! Certainly not the best but not the worst, or so I thought. Thinking this would be the only average donut, I was wrong. It was slightly dry on the outside, and had little sections of raw dough on the inside… Three thumbs down all around! DOUGHNOTSTOPHEREFORDONUTS! I’d rather have a Twinkie… At least you know it’s cooked…

This is my absolute favorite donut place. The people here are friendly and welcoming and the donuts remind me of my childhood. I’ll always stop by when I’m in the mood.

I liked express donuts the best out of the donut shops I’ve tried in Lodi. They’re the only place that has French cruellers in Lodi. In fact, they had the best selection out of Star and JD donuts. Express had a way better selection then anyone in Lodi. On a Sunday morning at 8 am a donut shop should have a good selection.

I loved this place. I was so surprised at the taste of the glaze donut. Check out my official review at Donut Dave

While performing some Bank duties today at Wells Fargo( ), I said to myself… «Might as well check off all the Donut places in Lodi…». I’m glad Lodi is the size it is… if I lived in a larger city and taste-tested all the Donut places, let’s say in Sacramento, I would have SERIOUS health issues. But… this is Lodi… there’s ONLY four Donut stores. Express Donuts located on Cherokee Lane, which parallels Hwy 99 on the West Side of the freeway. It is owned by a Cambodian couple. Back to business… the Donuts… Glazed Donut(** ½ $ 0.70) Not as fresh as the Sugar from Village Donut yesterday. Filled Maple Bar(* ½ $ 1.25) Not as fresh AND the owners do not take much effort in «filling» the Maple Bar correctly. It’s just sliced horizontally, and the Custard is just placed in the center of the Bar. large Coffee(*** $ 1.25) Not bad. Better than Village Donuts’ Coffee… but not by much. Value(***) $ 0.05 more than most other Donut places for regular Donuts; $ 0.25 less than other places for a Filled Maple Bar; and reasonably inexpensive Coffee. BUT, their prices for a Dozen are pretty expensive: Dozen Regular Donuts $ 7.50 Dozen Fancy /Mix Donuts $ 12.50 Arriving at Express Donuts about the same time as when I tried Donuts at Village Donut( ) yesterday, I would say the Donuts here are not as fresh. And… there are no Napkins here at all. You’ll have to reconcile yourself with the thin Wax Paper naps that the proprietor uses to «grab» the Donuts from the display case. You WILL(I guarantee it) have sticky fingers when you leave. And… the environment, mainly because of the neighborhood, is VERY, VERY iffy. There is usually a Taco Truck sitting right next to the store on the North side. Just imagine a Taco Truck parked next to your place… would drag down the Real Estate values pretty quickly. Open from 4am to 10pm. CA$H Only.
