I loved the previous Chinese place here, and my test of quality is always Shrimp Egg Foo Yung. The two other Chinese restaurants closest to Main & St. Charles fail miserably on it — one uses prawn instead of shrimp; one uses julienne cabbage instead of bamboo shoots. The Shrimp Egg Foo Yung from here was excellent, brown gravy was rich and shrimp were perfect. Also had Szechwan shrimp, plenty of vegetables and also a large portion. Definitely my preferred Chinese vendor for take-out in Lombard.

I was craving crab rangoons so I stopped by here for the first time to order some. The customer service was great, the lady behind the cash register was super friendly and had my order ready within 10 minutes. As for the food quality, the crab rangoons were fried and cooked well, but the outer shell was a little chewy for my preference. I also ordered vege egg rolls– which were pretty large for the price. This place definitely has huge portion sizes – which ironically worked against me. When I’m eating a crab rangoon or egg roll, i want something I can eat in 2 bites and finish. The sizes of their portions were so large that it actually interfered with the taste and experience. Overall my craving was satisfied, but I probably won’t order those items from here again.

Wow! Exceptionally fast service! The woman who answered the phone was super polite and didn’t mind customizing an order for us. My son has a bad peanut allergy and this was no problem for them. They promised us food ready in 15 minutes and were true to their word. The portions were huge. Their egg rolls are gigantic. I mean they are intimidating. Everything tasted delicious. We have tried multiple Chinese places in the area and both my husband and I agree that this is the best one so far! My kids ate it with no complaints so that’s always a plus! One negative thing I will say is that some things on the menu are VERY oily. The egg rolls and sweet and sour chicken especially(obviously). Everyone’s faces were shining and when biting into an egg roll the oil just drips off of it. But that was the only negative. Everything else was very yummy.

Got our first Carry out from here today. Had egg rolls that were large and good. Sweet and sour chicken good size order also good. Last part of the order was beef egg foo young which was good. Everything was hot and fresh.

Location is not too hard to miss since it’s in the same plaza as a 7-Eleven. There are tables and chairs available, but my guess is its«carry out» business is where it is focusing its energy on – hence the name Hong Kong Carry Out. The owners and staff are good people. They are young, budding entrepreneurs with restaurant experience who realized older Chinese restaurateurs want to get out of the business and retire — move over stereotypes of old Chinese folks who don’t speak a lick of English besides the dinner plate numbers! Food: good on all accounts. Value(huge portions), seasoning, freshness of ingredients, and freshness when received. I’ve been here a handful of times already and must admit I’ve fallen in love with the pot stickers. No matter how much I’ve already ordered(too much to eat, too much for the budget at the time lol), my addiction to these cheap, massive pockets of meat always finds a way into my order: HK Carryout: Is there anything else you’d like? Me: No, that’s okay. I’ve got enough HK: Okay, that’ll be $xx.xx in 10 min… Me: Wait, let me add an order of pot stickers, too. Thanks. Sorry. Takeaways: All the items I’ve tried are good to great in terms of taste and value. And I HIGHLY recommend the pot stickers. @Shelby B’s review– I’ve got a keen sense of taste that annoys most, and I’ve never tasted the old oil you wrote about. Must have been an isolated incident.

I am a bit surprised by some of the comments, because I am a strong home cook, and found the ingredients to be VERY fresh. Not one component tasted canned. Seasoning could have been stronger, I will agree. But we are going to try again. Tonight. So I will post again. First time was 3.5 stars. Hoping to increase! UPDATE: Back after last light’s dinner. They are up to 4.5 stars in my book. SO fresh, and veggies that are nice and crunchy and well-seasoned. Egg rolls were awesome. We had beef with green pepper and tomato, and chicken and broccoli, and the house fried rice. REALLY happy to have this place in walking distance to our house! Great food, reasonable prices. Will definitely go back.

WhileIm always happy to see a new Chinese spot and at a place in a crappy strip mall that has been empty for years this was a disappointing. The orange chicken was not as good as at some other places and they hardly had any orange sauce. itmwas way too dry and just boring tasting. Generic. This place is new and they better get their act together and as much as I hate to say it you are better off getting lunch next door at 711
