It’s been over 20yrs since I left the town. Oh how I miss the flower field, the sleepy town atmosphere, laid-back attitude of the town-people, and the GDS!!!

Wait, I can review a city? If you’re visiting, check out the Lompoc De-Lux list I started so you enjoy your visit. There’s good news and bad news about living here. There are some cool jobs, but if you get them, you’re likely from a larger city and will think it’s too slow here. If you grew up here, you’ll think it’s boring and probably want to go somewhere else. Getting the local newspaper helps us keep up with what’s going on — such as theater or music stuff happening in town. The photography and writing could be better, and I might apply when I am up to working again. This is a great place for people who love a little quiet, the great outdoors and wine. If you enjoy a relaxed lifestyle, here it is. You’re probably savvy enough to know where to shop in Santa Barbara, Santa Maria, and online to make things liveable for yourself. That’s sort of where I find myself. I like it better than I thought I would, and now LA seems a little overwhelming. There’s almost no traffic here. The education in the area seems actually decent. You can buy a bigger home for less money than just about anywhere in Santa Barbara County. If you want to commute to Santa Barbara for work, you can take the Clean Air Express. There is public transportation here, but if you live up the hill, the bus doesn’t go near you. There is a decent chunk of classes offered by Allen Hancock community college at a local campus which will allow you to transfer somewhere better when you’re done. We have a movie theater in town which is a tiny 4 plex, but it gets the job done. Santa Maria isn’t actually that far to drive out for a bigger theater experience. And Santa Barbara usually has the arty films. If you’re into the arts, the gallery and the Mural Society adds some interest. There is also a group that gets together to watch foreign films on Thursday nights at the South Side Coffee Shop — which beats Starbucks any day. Some nights, you can even meet and greet with the Mayor or the Chief of Police and they’ll buy you a coffee. In terms of foods, there are some nice restaurants in town, but to get fancier, you’ll have to go to Santa Ynez, Santa Barbara or San Luis Obispo. This isn’t such a bad thing. Check out the stuff on my Lompoc De-Lux list and you’ll be OK. We recently had a fancy little deli open up called Central Coast Specialty Foods that makes it a little better that the nearest Trader Joes is in Santa Maria and the nearest Whole Foods is in Santa Barbara. There are 2 local farmer’s markets which I recommend for fresh vegetables over going to any of the supermarkets in town. I’m still cheesed off that they got rid of the Saturday swap meet without complaint about the noise of the Clean Air Express buses and commuters, but I guess you can’t have everything.

This town is super cute! It exudes an old fashioned, small town feel… «where everybody knows your name…» The first thing I noticed was all the huge paintings everywhere. I wanna say that every other storefront had a wall-sized painting hanging on the side of their building. Each painting even had some sort of theme relating to their store, which was pretty neat. Only problem is that the stores/businesses close so early! We stopped by 2 diners and they closed at 2 – 2:30PM on a SATURDAY! Not sure if this applies everyday… but none of them had store hours posted :(
