When I moved to Santa Maria about a year ago from Phoenix AZ, I was disappointed to find few sources for asian groceries. I tried the one on Broadway, then over the weekends, ventured to the stores in Goleta and in San Luis Obispo. All were somewhat disappointing(well Goleta is so-so). Then… on my way home from work I discovered this Thai grocery store… This place is a blessing to the area. I have concluded that this store is the main reason Lompoc has so many Thai restaurants(5). –That’s 2 more than Santa Maria, even though the Lompoc population is roughly 1⁄5th of SM’s. Their selection of sauces and spices is pretty awesome. I’ve been able to find everything I’ve needed except for dried kelp(to make Korean Soon Du Bu), a Vietnamese crab spice i use to make Bun Rieu Cua, and the yellow bean sauce I use when making Thai Lard Nar. Lompoc Asian Market doesn’t stock meats, and if I’m wrong and they do, you probably don’t want to buy from there. You’re better off making separate trips to an American grocery. And veggies… well, keep a careful eye of what you buy. I’ve purchased a few veggies that were on their way to spoiling. Their Thai peppers, however, have been hotter than the ones I get in the large LA groceries. Overall, this place is excellent. If you can cook asian food, you’ll be able to find 90% of what you actually need w/o making a trip to LA.

I went here to scope it out because I’m moving from San Diego to the Lompoc area and am already a bit panicky at leaving my beloved Ranch 99. I need fresh fish and was hoping to find it here. No fresh fish, but they had a good selection of dried and canned goods, and a ton of sauces and bases for Vietnamese cooking and Asian cooking in general. Plus they had some fresh noodle and some frozen meats(including some fish) and a small produce section. I’m hopeful that by going there often and requesting items I want they will start to stock more things. The store owner and cashier looked very puzzled to have a white girl studying their shelves, but I’m sure they will get to know me in time.

This place is phenominal… you can easily buy some Asian things in any grocery store, but it isnt the same as an authentic Asian Market. The pepople are great & very helpful when it comes to recipies & ideas. They have everything you could need for your Asian style cooking @ home & also a wide variety of produce. Definately I would reccommend this store to anyone. The only one in Lompoc & its the best!
