UPDATE: Pizza Express of Londonderry is CLOSED. The building is vacant. Pizza Rescue of Derry remains OPEN for business. Pizza Express of Londonderry opened recently in the former Gigi’s Kouzina on Route 28 in North Londonderry. This is their second location to their Derry location on top of the hill heading towards Windham. The place is very cozy geared towards takeout and delivery. There are two booths in front of the counter, Coke cooler and a TV to watch and there are two picnic tables outside of the small building. The food offerings including pizzas(10″-16″ Rhino and individual slices), subs(9″-12″-24″ Rhino Size), wraps, salads, fried appetizers, dinner plates, pasta dinners, Mediterranean foods, Utz chips, and bottled Coke products in the cooler. The prices here seem reasonable. To celebrate their grand opening, they sent out menus with great coupon specials in the Spectrum for Derry and Londonderry, There was a buy one get one free any item coupon, good for the month of September 2014, which I immediately used on my recent visit. The place was fairly busy on a Friday night. I ordered a Rhino Size(24″) Steak Bomb Sub($ 11.50) and a Chicken Parm Dinner($ 11.49) with salad and garlic bread, using the BOGO coupon for a total of $ 12.54 with tax. The counter person said the food would be ready in 25 minutes, actual time was 37 minutes from ordering to receiving food. They had a very large order ahead of me with a very«hungry» family present inside the shop. Anyways, the Rhino Steak Bomb was actually three small 8″ steak bombs, which was loaded well with shaved steak, pepperoni slices, provolone cheese, green peppers, onions, and mushrooms on toasted Italian sub rolls. The sub was very greasy and very tasty similar to what I can get in Philly! Two thumbs up!!! However, the overall Chicken Parm Dinner was eh, which was a good portion packed in a round plastic container. The spaghetti was soft and clumping together topped with a tomato sauce which was way too spicy like someone went to town with the red pepper flakes, topped over with sprinkled mozzarella cheese, not fully melted. The breaded chicken cutlet on top on the spaghetti was actually pretty good. The side salad had the standard mix of lettuce, red cabbage, carrots, tomato slices, and cucumbers. I did have to go back inside the shop for a packet of Ken’s salad dressing, which is the standard salad dressing offered at many New England restaurants including Papa Gino’s. In this case, I prefer the salad dressing packets over the plastic cups with the bulk salad dressings(less chance for accidental messes). The baked garlic bread(sub rolls) was buttered and crunchy outside, softer inside. I will mention that there is a popular pizza shop in Londonderry(open for 10 years) with great food and fast efficient service, which offers homemade creamy Italian dressing(in plastic cups) for their salads and homemade fresh baked soft pita bread served with their dinners, sooo good!!! I will give Pizza Express of Londonderry another try very soon, perhaps ordering the pizza next time. $ 5 Large 16″ Cheese Pizzas are offered Mondays & Tuesdays at the Londonderry shop! This is a great deal! The 16″ pizza is the standard large pizza at most pizza shops. However, a few local pizza shops offer 20″ pizzas and Pizza Market in Manchester(East Side Plaza) offers a 30″ pizza, which is the biggest pizza size offered in NH. In my recent travels, I’ve enjoyed colossal 26″ pizzas from Cusato’s Pizzeria in Upstate NY(Halfmoon and Rotterdam). NOTE: Since the last post, I ordered the Chicken Parm Pizza and Steak & Cheese Pizza from the Derry location. The pizzas were good with the right amounts of toppings, sauce, and cheese. The crust was firm outside and soft inside. I also ordered Penne & Meatballs and Eggplant Parm dinners from the Derry location. Portion sizes there were very generous and the pasta was cooked al dente and the tomato sauce here had less red pepper than in Londonderry. The side salads were very fresh. However, they forgot the garlic bread with my dinners(over two visits) and on the second visit, I pointed this out before leaving and the kitchen staff baked up a mean cheesy garlic bread!
