We usually have a fantastic time when we eat here. The food is wonderful, the drinks are great and the service is great most of the time. It can be very noisy @ times making conversation difficult.

I came here for a birthday dinner and graduation celebration with my family. We had a few issues with an over cooked filet that was remade for us, but brought out after everyone was done eating. There were a few other things that happened that made me think that we caught them on a bad night. My natural New York strip steak was fantastic though. Nonetheless, I wasn’t pleased with the service and with the amount of great steakhouses in the area, I probably would have dismissed 555 East from my must return list. That was until I was contacted by the GM who was concerned about my experience and very unhappy that a celebration dinner didn’t turn out how we wanted. She offered me a very very generous gift card and a guarantee that my experience would be very different the next time I come in. I could tell the GM really cared about the experience and service they provide their customers so I will definitely go back and give it another shot. The steaks were fantastic and I can’t wait for the New York strip steak again.

Was all excited about dinner. Never ever again will I step foot in this place. Received the worst service ever so bad the waiter took 20 minutes just to ask us for drinks took 2 hours just to get our soup order what was supposed to be steak. ordered mash potatoes it took the waiter after 2⁄12 hrs for the waiter to not come to the middle of the table to tell us there out of mash potatoes. the waiter stood behind me put his hand on my back like i knew him talk about disrespectful. and had to settle for leftover day old baked potato not good. witness waiter calling bus boy a dumb ass 2 hours 45 minutes later my half ass dinner arrived took one bite had them bag it paid my check left my doggy bag on the table.

This was the best steak I’ve had. We started with the crab cake app. this was awesome. I have the cowboy ribeye and my wife had the filet. Both were cooked perfectly. The service was excellent and there is no corkage fee. This is a must try.

Came here for my daughter’s birthday with a party of 9. Had reservations for when they opened. So seating and service was spot on. The staff was excellent. Everyone enjoyed their food, but I must say I was a little disappointed in the steak I ordered. I had the dry aged Kansas City, Medium rare plus. It came with very very little pink and almost cooked well done. I was able to try some family members steaks and it was night and day difference. Theirs was tender and delicious. Everything thing else was perfect. My fault for not sending it back. With a check of over 800, guess I should of.. But not was a overall great time. It was 5 stars but my steak ade it a 4. I will come back for sure.

Usually I get a filet when I go to a steakhouse, but this time around at 555 I ordered the aged ribeye – and I think it may have been the best steak I’ve ever had. Perfectly seasoned, just a tad bit of fat which was nice and crispy, and the steak literally melted in your mouth like butter. Simply blew my mind. Our waiter(as always at 555) guided us in the right directions on wine, cocktails and anything else. Best steak in Long Beach.

Took my mom here for her birthday and we absolutely loved it! The ambiance is A1, really nice date spot I also came here to buy gift cards for Christmas and they gave me a free gift card for buying gift cards! Where they do that at?! Their food is amazing and so is their service. Gotta love Long Beach

First off, you walk in and you know you’re in a classy place. Great décor, classic chop house feel, great bar pouring nice refreshing adult beverages, piano man playing, and a great smell in the air. First impressions are important and this one passed with flying colors. Our server«Amanda» greeted us immediately and was extremely friendly and helpful. We started off with the goat cheese and roasted garlic appetizer and it was outstanding. One of the best appetizer’s I’ve ever had. A M A Z I N G. We both had soup, wife ordered crab bisque and I ordered French onion and mine was way better than my wife’s bisque. That was the only slight disappointment. She had the filet and I had a ribeye which were both outstanding. This place is a gem! Loved it!

Very classic American steakhouse. The server had a great spiel about the menu and the ambience of live piano was enjoyable. The food was prepared well and all of the flavor a on point. I ordered the swordfish and opted to get it «oscar style» which I highly recommend. My wife ordered the petite filet and it was perfect without any rubs or sauce. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a classic fine dining atmosphere.

Came here again on Wednesday night for a second try to treat my friend for a birthday meal. I really like one of the cocktail drinks I had. The cocktail with shrimp was okay. Our food took really long to come out though. Service was ok. And when our meal finally came out, the food wasn’t hot. Only the plate was . That was the down side, temp of food and long wait. The first time I came here was better than this time strangely. But I spent more money this time. The lamb chops were good. I just really wished our food came out fresh.

We reserved their wine cellar private room for a rehearsal dinner for 12 people Thursday night. We reserved the room at 555 East after having to cancel a reservation at another local restaurant due to poor customer service. From beginning to end, this was the best overall service experience we have ever had at any restaurant anywhere. Our first contact was with Autumn, the banquet manager. She was just outstanding. Very responsive, cooperative, and helpful. When we arrived, we were immediately introduced to Rachel, our server, who took us to the private room and helped us get set up. I just cannot say enough good things about Rachel. Friendly, attentive, helpful, always anticipating our needs and always smiling. After we had all placed our order, I asked her if we should order a few more sides. She looked at what we ordered and said, «No, I think this is enough.» Wow, how often does that happen? We felt like we had just made a new best friend by the end of the evening. Nilton(the big boss that night) was also very attentive, frequently stopping in to see if everything was okay. He even went out of his way to do a special favor for us at the end of the night. The food was all just exceptional, from the appetizers to the steaks to the seafood(especially the seafood). Almost everyone said the crab cakes were the best they had ever had. I could go on and on about the food, but it was the service that really made the night special. From the booking with Autumn to the valet to the receptionist to Rachel to Nilton, everyone seemed genuinely happy we were there and eager to please. It was just a very special evening that our families will treasure for a long time.

*3.5STARS* Thank you 555 East for letting me experience a great piece of steak. Thank you sweet boyfriend for treating me out for my birthday. ^____^ To be completely honest, I don’t like dining out at upscale restaurants because it makes me feel uncomfortable. I mean the quality of the food is out of this world, but I feel like I am being watched 24⁄7 or I have to be cautious not to spill all over myself! Maybe I’ll start enjoying it as I keep getting older? WHOKNOWS… HAHAHA… WELL… NOSURPRISE, 555EASTWASNODIFFERENTFROMOTHERUPSCALERESTAURANTS, BUT I CAN’T COMPLAINBECAUSETHEFOODWASPRETTYDARNGOOD!!! Service: 3⁄5 Our server was very informative in the beginning. He gave us the run downs of the different cuts of steak because we are ultra noobs however, he did not refill our bread basket when we asked and barely came by our table after we got our food. Food: 5⁄5 1. Prime New York Strip Steak(16 oz.): Acapella style My boyfriend got a hearty piece of steak, medium-rare, and acapella style(for an additional charge). Acapella style basically means the steak is covered with caramelized mushrooms and onions. It added a good flavor to the meat. He got the garlic mash for his side and killed it. 2. Filet Mignon(8oz.) I got the filet mignon, medium-rare, and kept it classic with no additional seasoning. The filet mignon was SO tender. I don’t think I’ve ever had anything like it before. It literally melted in my mouth. I also got the garlic mash and I just thought it was okay. I wish it had a deeper garlic flavor. 3. Creamed Spinach: Eh, creamy indeed but nothing is comparable to Lawry’s bomb creamed spinach… This one definitely lacked a lot of salt or something. 4. Sautéed Mushrooms: OKAY, mushrooms were ONPOINTTHOUGH. I basically killed the whole thing by myself. They were drenched in a wine-reduced sauce. It complimented the steak very well. 5. Crème Brûlée: It was free because it was my birthday. No complaints here ^___^ Crispy sugary top with a smooth creamy custard. Such a classic~ Ambiance: 3⁄5 The restaurant is very classic, old-fashioned, and dark. It was filled with old business men and old couples. My boyfriend and I did feel a little out of place. Overall, I really appreciated the quality of the food. I don’t think I would come back though. It’s a pretty pricey and the ambiance made me feel a little uncomfortable!

555 is a contender — as a Long Beach culinary institution and a conservator of old-school charm. I have dined here 55 to 555 times, over a decade, and its sophistication is unwavering. Service is a constant, with Mark or Jon behind-the-bar or Michael; Brad; Lisa; Mel; or Julie as servers. Everyone here has worked at the«Triple Nickel», as it is rapturously referred — think Rat Pack era — service is always attentive but un-rushed. I have the same fondness for Efren, as food runner, as do I for Marcus, as Manager or Douglas F., Executive Chef and Dede C., as General Manager. They are attentive to action. Mark mixes an Ocean Boulevard with grey goose(preferred), freshly-squeezed lemon-juice, strawberries, and basil over ice or an Old Sicilian, which is bourbon, amaro, and bitters served over block ice. He is personable and humorous but always has to get the Last Word, a cocktail of dry gin(Hendricks preferred), green chartreuse, freshly-squeezed lime, and a Maraschino cherry. The bar is a happening spot especially on Thursday, Fridays, and Saturdays. The inconsistency is in serving the best-steak-in-town, although graded as USDA Prime. The choice of many I have shared time, over dinner with is the 12oz Culotte /Baseball Cut($ 37) or the 16oz. Natural«Never Ever» New York Strip(never means no antibiotics or hormones, and a 100% vegetarian diet), order it «Cappella» Style with sautéed mushrooms and onions. While dining alone, I select a 6oz. Filet Mignon prepared Medium Rare. Sometimes, just a few, my steak is not prepared to perfection. Mary’s Free-Range Chicken is best served at the 555, as are flavory crab-cakes, my favorite outside the State of Maryland. The table-side Caesar Salad, for 2 is incredible, both the fresh romaine and house-made dressing. This is the place, to order an Iceberg Wedge. Their specialties also include a huge 14oz. Snake River Farms«All Natural«Kurobuta Pork Chop. The menu is a la carte, portions are hearty and can be shared. Certainly order a vegetable, spinach or humongous baked potatoes are my suggestions. However, my often special request, of steamed broccoli is fulfilled, which makes 555 special.

Came here last night for dinner at my reservation time of 4:45PM. It was a 3-course meal where we can individually decide an appetizer, entrée, and dessert menu item. Appetizers: Clam chowder — One of the best clam chowders I’ve had in my lifetime. Extremely great balance of flavors and note this is a appetizer so it was a perfect portion. Fried calamari — Nothing really special about fried calamari. It tasted the way it was supposed to. Entrée: Prime Rib Eye Steak 16oz — Steak was a good steak but nothing phenomenal. Cooked medium rare like requested and it was a good cut. I was fixated at the fact that I was thinking about replacing the fingerling potatoes with mashed potatoes but was told by the waiter I wouldn’t regret the fingerling potatoes. The fingerling potatoes were EXTREMELY salty it also felt like I put a cube of salt in my mouth. This brought my entire dish to an extremely unpleasant taste. Prime Lamb — Cooked perfectly but somewhat salty. Dessert: Chocolate Soufflé — Not much a dessert person but it was decent. Overall I would’ve rated this place a 3 based on taste and a 5 for service hence the 4 star review. For the price-point you are much better off going to Ruth’s Chris or Mastros as I don’t think this place is even a close comparison of the overall taste of those steakhouses.

Parking in this area can be hard to find, and 555 East does have Valet parking for $ 7. Luckily, we found a spot for meter parking right in front of the restaurant and found out that it was free that weekend! Right upon walking in, we were greeted and was told to wait a few minutes for our reservation at 4:45pm. Since it was Valentines Day, they had a set 3 course menu. Each person was able to choose their appetizer, entrée, and dessert. All of the tables were setup with rose petals and lit with candles and gave a very romantic feeling. The waiter was extremely attentive and brought out our waters and warm bread with butter right away. The outside of the bread was perfectly crunchy and the inside so soft and warm that the butter melted right away. I ordered the Ocean Boulevard, which the waiter said was their most popular cocktail with strawberry and basil. I would definitely give it a try :) For appetizers, we ordered the clam chowder and the fried calamari. They ground fresh pepper on the clam chowder upon request. It was definitely delicious. with a perfect amount of potato and clams. not too thick and not too watery. The fried calamari came with lemon to squeeze on top of, tartar sauce, and cocktail sauce. I would say it was a pretty big portion. However, it was just fried calamari, nothing really stood out. I ordered the Prime Lamb. The presentation was amazing(as you’ll see in many of the photos). It was on top of spinach and mashed potatoes. We both thought that the mashed potatoes and the lamb were too salty. :/I ordered mine Medium Rare and it was perfectly cooked. It was even good today morning as leftovers. but definitely too salty. I drank so much water today. My boyfriend ordered the Prime Rib Eye. It came with fingerling potatoes, which he did not enjoy because they were covered in salt. I tried it because I did not believe him, and whoa you could definitely even feel the many grains of salt that the potato was covered in. The green beans were good though :) The steak was also cooked very nicely just like my lamb. For dessert, we ordered the chocolate soufflé. It was so ooey and gooey of chocolate. I had really high expectations because the last time I had a chocolate soufflé was at Ruth’s Chris. Don’t get me wrong, it was good, but I prefer the one at Ruth’s Chris better. Maybe other entrees are not as salty? I’m not sure if i’ll be back or not. Maybe other entrees are not as salty? Has any one else experienced this here?

Not impressed. Service is always excellent, but the food… well, not the best that I’ve had from a supposedly 5 star restaurant. Sometimes, the food comes out greasy, the filet does not always have the best flavor and the sides can be hit or miss. I’ve had much better filet at restaurants where steak is not their number one specialty. I live across the street from here and visit at least once a month. After each visit, I always ask myself why.

I try and get here whenever I am in Long Beach and it never disappoints. I always feel confident bringing friends and family here. This has been one of my favorite go to places to celebrate special occasions… or just celebrate an excellent steak dinner. This last year alone we indulged our«steak tooth» four times… And every time we have had great service and wonderful food. I’m kind of ashamed I haven’t reviewed 555 East before. This last time we started with some grilled artichoke and oysters… Yum! Then Followed it with the 12 oz filet mignon, prepared just exactly as I ordered it… Yay! And of course, had to pair it with the loaded baked potato which could be a meal on its own right. I have learned not to order a dessert along with the birthday crème brûlée, it’s one of the largest I’ve ever seen served. One other thing is that beyond their extensive and also excellent wine list is that you can bring in your own bottle. They will decant it, no drama. Damn, now I’m hungry for steak… Again…

We came between lunch and dinner time so there was no wait for our party of 6. One thing that annoyed me was that the server cleared the table of my and my 8-year-old nephew’s wine glass immediately upon our sitting down without even asking or making sure I didn’t need it. At 26 yrs, I realize I’m on the border of being 21 but at a nice place like this I was definitely shocked I wasn’t asked first. Not to mention, when I asked for it back there was no apology. Anyways, other than that minor snafu, the food was delicious and we had an excellent meal. The pasta was delicious and the steaks were amazing.

Friday night seven o’clock reservation. Dinner was exceptional. For the ambiance and setting definitely worth the price. Steaks were between 30 to 50 bucks depending on the cut. Sides were 7 to 9 bucks each. Steaks came with a side of potatoes, fries, mashed, or baked. Roughly 50 to 60 a person not including alcoholic beverages. Parking is hard to find on a Friday night. We chose to valet for $ 7. The restaurant has an older but classy wood look. Service was okay. Our waitress was nice but i wouldn’t go as far as to say over the top. The rest of the staff was great. Came here tonight for the first time with my wife. We were celebrating our anniversary. I called and made a reservation a week in advance and like other reviews said, they ask if it’s a special occasion. I told them why. They called the day of to confirm. We showed up 30min early and walked in. Valet is $ 7. The girl receptionist kept looking down and wasn’t that enthusiastic. We were seated promptly. They took us to the way back in the corner. Seemed like tables were squeezed in, but ok. The receptionist did wish us a happy anniversary but not the waiter and I guess another review said they were given a free dessert, which didn’t happen with us. Our server was Lisa who was great! She was handling multiple tables and one being a larger party. She knew the menu and had a great attitude! The bus boys were quick to fill water, pick up plates, and bring out bread. I had the ahi tuna with rice and spinach. It was good portions and pretty good! Wife had the spaghetti basil. We also had the popular soufflé. Menu says order 20min ahead. My best tip is order the soufflé right as your entrée comes out. We ordered it half way through our meal and at least another 20−30min before it finally came. Also my spoon had some left over debris left on it. Water glasses were foggy as well. Overall, food was good. Might try the steak next time. Service was great! A few issues, but not terrible.

I made a reservation for a celebratory dinner. Upon making the reservation, they ask if you are celebrating anything and I told them, yet they didn’t do anything when we were there, nor did they acknowledge/mention anything about it, so I’m almost like, why ask in the first place??? This was my second time here at this restaurant and both times, we were celebrating something and they did the same thing last time, as well. When you get to the restaurant, you can either park on the street, if you can find a spot or just valet park. The restaurant is very beautiful and dark, but at the same time, that is what a true steakhouse is like. Dark, nicely decorated, superb service from the staff and an all-around great vibe. Walking in and advising the hostess of our reservation was easy enough and we were immediately seated. At first, they seated us in back, but it was so crowded around us, because of large parties, so we asked if they could seat us in the front. The front is almost like a little enclosed porch or sunroom. Being that it was summertime, it was a very hot day outside. This little sunroom was scorching! It was so hot that I asked for the dessert or drink menu, so that I could fan. Now, I am someone who loves heat, so if I was hot, you know it was hot! I was sweating and sucking on the ice from my water like crazy. We were dressed up; I in a little lace dress and we were still sweating. I thought that maybe this area might be air conditioned, but it wasn’t. Our server was really nice and apologized for the heat, but it wasn’t her fault. We quickly ordered our food, as I was starving! I love a good steak, so when I crave it, I usually give in to the cravings. I ordered a rib eye, simply because it holds flavor so good! We started with the clam chowder, which was excellent! You could tell that it is made fresh in-house and it was well-seasoned, not bland like it is at some establishments. My friend ordered a filet mignon, I believe. They also brought out steak butter, which is usually a mixture of butter, herbs, spices, and garlic. That stuff was delicious! The steak cut like magic and it tasted like pure ecstasy in my mouth! I hated to swallow each bite, because I wanted to chew on it a little longer and enjoy the flavor, but then I looked down and realized that I had more and that I could experience that flavor and get that same high on the next bite! Our server came out to make sure that the steaks were cooked to our liking and that we were okay. She checked on us quite a bit, but I think that’s because she knew that we were annoyed with the table next to us and she kept apologizing for it. They kept drinking… and drinking… and drinking… and drinking… and…you guessed it! Drinking! In this heat? Ugh! They were so loud that all of the tables around them kept looking over at them, wishing they’d shut the hell up, so the rest of us could enjoy our time there, too. I’m sorry, but we are all paying patrons and we want to be able to hear the people that we are seated with, as well, not read each others lips, or raise our voices to where we are almost yelling, just so we can hear each other and have a conversation, too. Moving on… I ordered a cocktail; The Ocean Blvd, made with vodka, fresh lemon juice, strawberry, and basil. It was good, but way too strong. No complaints on the bartender for not making it strong enough! That’s for sure! I think my pupils were dilated on the first sip! I could barely drink it. In fact, I only took maybe 2 or 3 sips from it. The strength of that drink combined with the heat made it a deadly combo for me and I would have been coma-grade sleep on that table, especially after enjoying my steak, so I just left it alone. I initially thought that it would be refreshing, but after all that and that other annoying table, I didn’t want it anymore. Of course I was still going to pay for it, but our server insisted on taking the drink and I still insisted on paying for it and then she said, «absolutely not» and brought me an iced tea, instead. I really appreciated that, but I am the type of person who wouldn’t send something back like that, unless it was wrong to begin with. We ordered two desserts; the chocolate soufflé and the apple tart. We enjoyed the apple tart a lot more. The soufflé wasn’t very rich in flavor, like you would think chocolate would be and seemed a bit dry. I like to try soufflé before you douse it in the accompanying cream, because sometimes you don’t even need it. I added the cream and it helped a little, but it still wasn’t very rich, so if you are looking for a very mild chocolate dessert, this is the perfect one. The apple tart was delicious and they put a scoop of ice cream on top and drizzle some caramel. We had to eat it quick, because it was so hot in our section of the restaurant that it was melting fast. By the time I had taken the picture, it had only been sitting on our table not even 5 minutes and the ice cream was running.

Meat! If you enjoy an amazing steak, this place is for you. Do not waste your time or money with the pasta dishes, let alone any other dishes, this is a steakhouse! Expect to spend $$$ as this is not some steakhouse chain, but an upscale steakhouse. Dress nice, bring cash for tips, order a nice steak and enjoy. Parking is either street or pay for valet. Not much else to say as it’s pretty simple, upscale steakhouse.

Delish! Of all my years of living in LB, I have never set food in this establishment. But I finally did yay! After my experience, I’ll more than likely be coming back. Came here on a Weds night to catch up wit a few girlfriends and celebrate a specific girlfriend’s recent engagement to her fiancé. We had reservations and were seated promptly upon our arrival. The restaurant is dimly lit and is decorated in an older dark and wood type décor. We were given bread and butter well we decide what we wanted from the menu. Bread was warm, crispy, and flakey. It took everything in me, but I only had one because I didn’t want to spoil my appetite. we ordered the GRILLEDARTICHOKEWITHGARLICAOLI to start $ 114 stars *** FRIEDCALAMARI $ 144 ½ stars*** A DOZENOYSTERS on the half shell. 4 ½ stars*** all three appetizers were good. But the Grilled artichoke sort of lacked in flavor. The garlic and lemony flavor was only on the top layer of the artichoke and didn’t have any one the rest of it. Fried calamari was crispy on the outside and soft and slightly chewy on the inside. I would have to say this appetizer went the quickest at our table. Oysters were really good too. Came with horseradish and cocktail sauce, very fresh and sweet. For my entrée I got the Rack of Lamb $ 48.00 came With cassis sauce, garlic mashed potatoes, & spinach. I ordered my lamb medium of course and it was perfect! Lamb has a nice crust on the outside of the lamb and the meat was very tender and juicy. Mash potatoes and spinach were great also. 4 ½ stars*** My sister and had the 8oz FILETMIGNON Medium with the garlic mash potatoes. And Mmm Mmm Mmm was this good. The filet mignon was so soft and flavorful. Garlic mashed potatoes were ok. I would prefer them more garlic-y 4 ½ stars*** Service wasn’t so great, we found ourselves waiting on the server most of the time. I think they were quite understaffed because we would see her ½ way across the restaurant at some times during our dining. Parking is available through valet or on the street and is metered. Meters stop being in effect after 6pm I believe. I’ll be back.

I haven’t been back here since the first time I took my boyfriend here for his birthday. This past Valentines, my boyfriend worked so we didn’t celebrate but 2 weeks ago he planned an entire day at Long Beach ending with a nice dinner here. The steak was just as I remembered it — I ordered the Petite Filet Mignon which was still a nice 8ozer with Garlic Mashed Potatoes. The filet was so juicy and tender it was just literally melt in your mouth goodness. This is still the far best filet mignon I have had and best of all this isn’t a chain steakhouse. My boyfriend had the RIbeye which equally as tender and juicy. We shared two sides — the Creamed Spinach and Fresh Corn. It was definitely a fantastic steak meal. We were about to leave, when it started to pour heavily outside so we decided to order two cappacinos and just enjoyed the view of the rain. The service was excellent. Our waitress was very quick and friendly and the host sat us promptly. The food took a good amount of time to come out — not super quick that I think things were pre-made but also not too long that I stuff myself full with bread. I am glad we had reservations and the waitress took our orders before they took the really big party of about 15 people cause I think our food would have took very long to come out. Overall this is still one of the best steakhouses I have tried — that isn’t a chain steakhouse like Fleming’s or Ruth Chris. And even after all these years they are consistent with both steak quality and service. Definitely recommend this place for a great melt-in-your-mouth steak dinner as well as great service. The only thing I do have a minor complaint about was the fact that our table was next to the bar — it was semi-blocked with a wall since we were sitting in the patio(it’s not open to the outside so it isn’t really outside sitting it’s like a roofed and glassed patio — in which we can see the outside sidewalk as people walk in) — and my complaint was the people who were sitting at the bar — especially one drunk lady that was talking — almost the entire time I just heard her conversation with her date. It was kind of annoying since I would have liked a more quiet and intimate atmosphere. I don’t necessary blame the restaurant for this since I mean it’s not like they should control their diner’s speaking volume but perhaps they can do something about the dining room structure. Well regardless of this — I wasn’t super bothered by it — as a matter of fact, my boyfriend and I thought what she was saying pretty funny and gave us something to talk about. but yeah not much privacy if you sit and talk relatively loud at the bar. We still had a good laugh and experience.

You may be wondering if 555 East is the address or the restaurant. The answer is, it’s both. Located on the corner of Ocean and Linden(but actually on Linden), you can either search for street parking or pay for valet. We didn’t find out how much valet costs, because we were able to find a metered spot closeby. So it cost us $ 1.50 to park for an hour and a half. During busier nights you may find that valet is the better option(solely based on convenience). Apparently there is underground parking as well, but when we tried to access it, the gate was closed. I booked our 6:30 reservation through Open Table and it worked out just fine. We arrived at 6:25 and were immediately seated by a courteous pair of hostesses. I always anticipate and imagine what my dining experiences will be like. I was excited to come here. I haven’t been supporting my own hood enough, so it was time to support another restaurant in LBC. I discovered that 555 East is classy, well executed, and delicious. I give props to our server John — he gave off the vibe of being ready to serve at a moments notice. He was very proper in his demeanor. He was professional, courteous, and efficient. I was also a fan of his beard. The décor here was more of a blast from the past than Dal Rae. When I visited Dal Rae, I was surprised that there wasn’t much of an old school vibe going on. 555 East could easily host the Rat Pack better than Dal Rae. The bar, decorations, bottle displays, dark woods, and paintings all played their part in a time machine warp back to the past. Dim, cozy lighting paved the way for an intimate, romantic culinary adventure. My wife got the wedge salad, 12oz filet mignon, baked potato, and a few drinks. I ordered a half dozen oysters, and John asked me if I wanted east or west coast. The moment I told him I needed time to think, he instantly solved my dilemma by informing me I could do half and half. This guy was reading my mind; I like it when servers do that. I don’t like horseradish. That being said, I actually enjoyed the horseradish here. It was freshly grated. It packed a nice punch which nicely accentuated the already delicious, smooth, silky, natural, oceany flavor of the oysters. The salinity level was low on both the east and west coast oysters. The east coast ones were slightly more briny of the two. Crab bisque — This was very well executed. Fresh, flavorful, tasty, filling. Contained bits of crab meat. Real love was put into this. 20oz bone-in Cowboy ribeye — Perfectly cooked(medium rare). Perfectly seasoned. Served on a sizzling hot plate to keep your steak warm for the duration of your meal. Beautiful natural flavors. For fun, I turned a medium rare piece on its side and it continued to cook on the hot plate. This steak was Mastro’s-esque; it was brilliant. The beauty of both the dry aging and marbling shined through in spectacular fashion. It was tender, juicy, and succulent. The chef’s execution was flawless. Creamed spinach — really excellent texture as well as flavor of the cream. Dare I say, it was immaculate. Garlic mash — excellent, perfect flavor as well as consistency. Dare I say again, it was immaculate. Once again, flawless execution. My wife concluded with a Kalua and coffee and a chocolate soufflé. I don’t like alcohol or coffee, but somehow I enjoyed the taste of her drink. It was really good. The chocolate soufflé was good as well. Even the bread was good. It was warm, crisp, and delightful. We dipped it in the crab bisque. I only have one small qualm about 555 East. While my wife and I were walking toward the entrance, we had to pass two valet drivers who were just standing around and smoking. Not only does it look unprofessional, it sucks that I have to breathe in their secondhand smoke. They made no effort to move or in any way pretend to care that we were passing through their space en route to the restaurant. I don’t believe this should affect the rating of the restaurant. I don’t know if they’re employed by 555 East or an outside company. Just food for thought. 555 East executes its dishes with a high degree of skill. I’ve had these dishes elsewhere, but they were never executed with such precision. Good service combined with great food created a stunning dining experience. A near-perfect steak, with perfect sides, a stellar soup, and eaten alongside the woman of my dreams — what more could a guy ask for?
