i agree with the last reviewer. located in the heart of bixby knolls,(which FYI is not your typical north lb neighborhood), there is def potential for a more innovative /yuppy bagel shop. ordering a bagel here is the equivalent to ordering a bagel at starbucks. you get two choices for the flavor and a small prepackaged cream cheese that you spread onto the bagel yourself with a plastic knife. i dont want to go out on a limb but i am willing to bet that an extra cream cheese costs around 50 cents.

The Bagel Barn changed hands a couple months ago and the new owner is great. She doesn’t make the bagels on site, but has them delivered early each morning from a place in LA. There are about a dozen different varieties and the ones I’ve tried have been great. I also had the chicken salad on a toasted onion bagel — delish! There’s a lot going on in this place — I think that’s because the previous owner struggled to get business so they kept adding things to the menu and the room. My advice: Build local traffic by featuring the bagels and creating some decadent and unique cream cheese schmears(sp?) to go with. The neighborhood has lots of cash, and if they figure out this is the place to go for a dozen bagels and high-end toppings(instead of the usual suspects), it would make this little place stand out.
