MY daughter spent a total of 6 weeks at CFD Long Beach before being transferred to another CFD location in Lakewood for eating disorder. She was suffering from debilitating anxiety and depression and we were desperate for help from a residential treatment facility. We had to use a transport service to get her to the center since her anxieties were too much and we were unable to get her out of the house on our own. It was very difficult to leave her at CFD Long Beach since she had never been away from us for more than a day or two. The staff was very professional and caring in checking her in and taking care of her for the 6 weeks she was there. It was not an easy transition for her by any means and there were plenty of times when our daughter was begging us to take her out, but the work she did in process groups, individual therapy and family sessions have paid off and she is doing well so far out of treatment. We had no idea she had an eating disorder because her social anxieties were so overpowering at the time that they masked other issues. Dr, Danielle diagnosed her ED and discussed her eating disorder with Tara and the family in a very informative manner that both highlighted the danger she was facing and the hope we all had for a full recovery since her ED had started fairly recently. In summary, we are grateful for the hard work and professionalism of the entire staff at CFD Long Beach for helping our daughter get her life back together.

I am so grateful that this place exists. It not only took great care of our daughter, but it also took great care of the whole family. Our daughter was at the all girl facility in Long Beach. It was clean and very mellow. The family therapy, individual therapy and parenting classes were amazing. My husband and I learned so much. We all grew and learned better ways to handle scary situations. I highly recommend this program to anyone looking to get help for their teen. Our therapist, Danielle was superb in reaching and teaching our whole family. This place is very safe. It ‘s structured and offers enormous support. The small group (it’s a 6 bed all girl facility) made it possible for everyone to get their needs met. They firmly but lovingly helped our daughter deal with the real issues that she needed to address. The personal therapy my husband and I received was priceless. We will be forever grateful to Danielle and the rest of the doctors for all the help they provided. Our daughter has been home for almost 2 months and the way we interact and support one another is so much healthier. Our daughter is open about her fight with cutting and is grateful for all the coping mechanisms she received to help her at home. She is stronger and more open about her weaknesses which helps us all to feel safer, closer, and more at peace. This place deserves more than 5 stars.

My daughter received the help she needed from Dr. Danielle Newman and all the great staff at Center for Discovery. They really know what they are doing. My daughter and I reflect from time to time and we are always thankful for the treatment our family received. It’s been about 2 yrs since the program and she is doing wonderfully. My daughter and I know it’s because of Center For Discovery. I can sleep now and she’s earned my trust back.

My experience with the Long Beach Center for Discovery was horrendous. I wish I had some warning before I brought my son there. It is extremely unprofessional. For example, the first night they felt my sons blood pressure was a bit low. Instead of calling me, his mother, they rushed him to emergency where he sat for over six hours, never even saw a doctor and the staff never even
returned my calls with concern, but most importantly if they had spoken with me, they would have known that my son has always had very low blood pressure like his mom. But they did NOT contact me and I was billed $ 1,500 from the hospital…
I tried to reach my sons therapist the next couple of days, and she just didn’t seem to care that he was miserable there. I have had past experiences with programs before but this one just didn’t sit well with me. by Day 3 my son walked right out the front door of the facility. it took them hours before they alerted me that he was walking the streets alone in a bad neighborhood. they claimed they called the police but I never heard from them. I was so frightened for my son and felt helpless. The facility would not return my voice mails to them and our assigned therapist did not have the decency to stay in touch with me. He eventually called me from a pay phone. Two weeks later I got a small refund, but for the 3 days he was at the program THEY CHARGED ME $ 1,875.00! FOR THREE AWFUL, TERRIBLE NERVE WRACKING DAYS…

We sent our daughter to the Long Beach Center for Discovery, for teens struggling with substance abuse and mental health issues. After two days, they sent our daughter to the psych hospital because she was verbally abusive to another resident. And then used that occasion to expel her from the program, without any treatment.
The staff was completely unresponsive to my daughter’s need, and our own. The chief therapist refused to deal with our daughter’s bi-​polar/​borderline personality disorder, by instead refusing treatment, and shipping her off to an psych institution which was depressing and unsanitary.
In my view, this center abrogated its responsibility, because they didn’t want to deal with my daughter. I would strongly suggest that anyone looking for a combined mental health/​substance abuse program look elsewhere. This is not a solution, and after waiting months on the «waiting list» to get her in, it proved to be a huge waste of time, especially since we had other options. Much better programs are out there, and most of them, unfortunately, are out of state.
