Junky Rusty Bikes

I bought a 3 speed beach cruiser a few weeks ago from JRB. No one else had anything similar in stock, not at least for anything close to the price. I am real happy with the bike.
BTW, Ive been told JRB no longer sells bikes, best to check.
Yes, the owners personality is a little different. But I worked with French people for years, and have learned to accept artists, and other intelligent people, with their personalities.
Yes, the store is a little cluttered, but he seems to have the parts and know-​how.
Bottom line: If you want a charming salesman to kiss your butt, go to a big fancy bike store. If you want what you need, don’t have tons of money, and are not easily offended, you may want to check in here first.

After reading all the reviews, I had to stop by. Had to see the bike shop that got some many folks hot under the collar.
It’s small and it looked okay to me. I have been in bike shops that are total junk shops but this one wasn’t the worse I have been in. I took a quick look around and chatted with the owner. He’s okay. He knows his client base and carries what his customers want: cheat parts. I live in North Long Beach and I don’t see a bunch of cyclists in Lycra on bikes that cost more that some of the cars cruising in our neighborhood. I see mostly bikes used for transportation not sport.
I picked up a bike rack for the rear wheel of my husband’s bike. The rack was only $ 15! A similar rack sells at Performance for $ 30! I was happy with that deal.

What an awful place to be, the guy is a complete a-​hole, a pigsty of a shop, and the quality of his products is about as good as his service (low quality) he barely knows what he is doing to the bikes he builds, and if he can open a bike shop an some how keep it running for year, then people must love being verbally absed and their bike abused by this brute of a store owner.

1 Star for this place is right, because Junky Rusty Bikes does offer value via good prices for some of the parts they sell.
The loss of the other 4 stars is due to customer service. First, this place closes at 5pm on the dot, thus making it very inaccessible for the majority of us that work. I was just a couple of miles a way at 4:50pm and called to see if he could keep the place open a couple of minutes longer so I could pick some parts up and was told at 5pm the doors are locked! I already got off work early to try to make it there and now I had to break a few speed laws because this guy couldn’t accommodate me with a couple of extra minutes of his time??? When I got there at 5:02pm, they were closed. They must not want to sell anything that bad.
I ended up coming here on the weekend to pick up a handle bar and inquired about a washer for mounting my rear brake caliper on an old Trek bike I was putting together from spare parts. I was specifically looking for a washer for my brakes and they guy was talking down to me like I was an idiot. He just kept saying that the brakes only come one way and was trying to shove a nutted mounting set up down my throat. I told him my brakes don’t use that set up and he just kept telling me that in all his years all the brakes he has seen only come as nutted. He even showed me a set and dangled it in front of my face so he can further show that he knows what he is talking about.
FYI Junky Rusty Bikes, brake mounting comes as either nutted or recessed, based on the manufacturer.
So if you are looking for parts and don’t mind rudeness or arrogance, come to Junky Rusty Bikes, because they have parts cheap.
Me, I am going to take my dollars somewhere else where I can get decent customer service.

this place is a dump and the owner is a total a-​hole do not go there unless you like to be treated like your s_​_​_​t just read other reviews. he was so rude I did not buy what I had come for cussed him and left!

this is still not my favorite shop, but i have to say it has made some improvements. it is still crowded but the owner has gotten much friendlier. it is a good place to go for your basic needs.

Great bike shop Nothing Like other bikes shops very well stocked. I live around the corner and lucky to have it near by. He’s not cocky like other review say. I think he just knows he’s very well stocked. I’m gonna go later to buy some nice Fixie tires. Go check it out.

I came to Junky Rusty Bikes looking for a 32 hole coaster brake hub. Why on earth would you want a 32 hole coaster brake hub? It’s simple — all of the colorful fixie rims like Weinmann DP18 and Velocity Deep V are drilled for 32 holes… and all of the coaster brake hubs available *everywhere else in the entire country* are 36 holes. Junky Rusty Bikes is, quite possibly, the only place in the US that stocks this product… so I drove over to Long Beach, in search of WIN… and what I found was bizarre, but fantastic.
If you’re picturing a normal bike shop, with nicely displayed rows of clothing, components, high-​end bicycles, and $ 20 socks that have nice messages like «go green» and «share the road», think again — you’re in the wrong place.
This shop is more like a 200 square foot closet, with floor to ceiling stacks of bike parts… seats, handlebars, rims, wheels, tires, whatever… some still in boxes, and others in piles that appear to defy all the laws of physics. There’s a few bikes, too — some new, but mostly, well, junky, rusty bikes.
The owner is a bit gruff — not really into long, drawn out conversations about the state of the energy crisis or the current weather in Long Beach. He’s probably from the East Coast or something. As other reviewers mentioned, he’s not into BS… which I can respect.
Junky Rusty Bikes is very much a niche store, and there are certain reasons you would go here… and certain reasons you wouldn’t. Here are some reasons to visit Junky Rusty Bikes:
— You like bike parts that come in ten million different colors
— You want to pimp out your old ten speed or fixie with brightly colored saddles, rims, grips, cranks, etc.
— You need parts to restore your own Junky Rusty Bikes, but don’t want to invest much money in them
— You like cheap bike parts at decent prices
— You want instant gratification, without waiting for Major Online Seller to spend a month shipping your order
— You are looking for a 32 hole coaster brake hub.
Here are some reasons you would not go to Junky Rusty Bikes:
— You want to purchase a Bianchi Pista
— You are looking for Campagnolo hubs to update your high end road rig
— You want to buy a $ 200 helmet
— You want to buy a cycling costume made of spandex
— You need an ergonomic, gender specific saddle
— You know nothing about bikes, other than that you need a really expensive one.
As far as I’m concerned, this place is a WIN… I went home happy with a 32 hole coaster brake hub, as well as a pink Pake crankset and some lime green BMX pedals. Soon, those junky rusty bikes in my yard will be awesome.

first off, the owner or worker or whatever is honestly unfriendly. i bought a bike for $ 325, and a month later it broke. the worst part about this store is that there isnt any warranty, which is stupid, since bikes nowadays are expensive and if it brakes theres no hope. overall maybe if this store had warranty i wouldnt have to write such a horrible review.

Let me start off by saying… if you dont do well in tight spaces… TAKE YA BUTT SOMEWHERE ELSE… this place is crazy small. It is jam packed with stuff. Staff kinda sucks, cause they always seem like they could be doing something better. BUUUT WHATEVER. Prices are good, they have a functioning website so thats cool. Quality Place though overall.

This place is pretty chill; it’s small but well stocked. The prices are probably the best around, but mainy for low end stuff — which is cool with me.
Since it’s so small, they seem to only really have one employee which is the owner. Dont expect tons of help, the owner is a very straight to the point kinda guy. I expect this has to do with kids & hipsters who wander in and waste his time, so he tries to cut through the bs. Luckily I knew exactly what I wanted and was in & out in less than 15 mins.
Based on that interaction and a previous experience, I would save my questions and interactions for other, more established bike shops where customer service is more of a priority. However, when it comes to buying tubes, tires, handle bar tape, wheels, or accessories — this place can’t be beat. It’s the equivalent to an Am/​Pm for bikes. Get in, get your stuff, and get out.

I went in to get a bike repaired and the space was cramped and unorganized. The store only had a couple bikes on display and the remaining bikes were in a pile. The pile look liked it was heading to the dumpster. The attitude from the guy was rude and obnoxious. Rather than being straight foward of his pay before services are rendered policy he bashed the neighborhood. 2 weeks after my encounter with this business and this guy I went else where and purchased a bike and received better service.

This place is definatly small and looks unorganized but the guy knows where everything is at. First came to the place cause I heard there pricing was far which it is, I go there for all my small biking needs. Only drawback is you have to talk to the guy who I guess owns it, every question asked has a witty comeback. He doesn’t seem to friendly at all nor does he seem like he wants your business other than that this place is definatly your quick in and out spot for biking needs.

Claustrophobic? Suffer angst in tight places? Need elbow room, Daniel Boone? Or do you have trouble with a name like «Junky» or «Rusty»?
If you answered yes to any of the above questions, you might want to go some place else for your biking needs. But if you don’t mind a cramped sales space, love a down-​to-​earth approach with no pushy sales b.s. with great deals on basic repair and replacement and comparable bike prices, then Junky Rusty Bikes is the place for you.
While North Long Beach isn’t the bike-​riding Mecca of the real beach cities, biking is a growing pastime here and perhaps even a need with the realities of recession and gas prices staying high while paychecks remain low. I ride for enjoyment and to say I’m happy having this store so close to home is an understatement. Now, instead of making the long drive over that certain mega-​store off of Spring St. for a repair, I can walk to JRB, spin my wheels a bit and ride home. After all, it’s not like «El Tigre”*, or anything…
P. S., if you’re easily intimidated, I don’t think you need to worry about bumping into any Lance Armstrong around here. He rides in a different ‘hood.

I would definitely give JRB a zero star rating if it was possible. You would think someone looking to make a sale would provide as much help to a customer as possible. Thats what I thought at least. I came into JRB one day knowing what I wanted, pointed it out to him and was pretty much ready to pay. The only word he said was «okay» and went back to working on a bike. I continued to browse and 10 minutes later two other customers came in for some advice, at that point I just left.
Jeff talks fast and in a manner thats condescending and arrogant it’ll drive anyone away. I also hear he buys parts from JB Bike Shop in Paramount and prices them slightly higher. lame.

I recently purchased a bike from JRB and to be honest I was very surprised when I visited his store… I was expecting to see a bunch of used rusty bikes but what I found was a treasure chest filled but a wide selection of bikes priced just right…
