Four years Kevin prepared my husband and my tax returns. We are both LE, and we have an LLC with rental/​income properties in CA and AZ. Our returns were quite extensive. We always got nice returns, and we felt like everything was legit. Fast forward to 2014. We retired and moved to Nevada. I found an accountant in Reno. He asked to view our prior year returns to get an idea of how we had been filing. He was floored by our 2013 returns. He asked to go over 2011 and 2012 also. He re-​prepared all three years and told us we should ammend every year that Kevin prepared. (Oh, and pay a $ 3000 re-​prep fee also). His returns looked nothing like Kevins. He said that what we did could be considered tax fraud, and that we could be arrested even! Kevin took deductions not allowed by law, failed to report our rental income to AZ, and did not file required LLC forms with California.
The state of California fined me for MY failure to file required forms related to our LLC for 2011, 2012 and 2013, along with penalties. I spoke with Kevin, and he said there was a misunderstanding about us having an LLC. He paid for the penalty that the state imposed and apologized for the misunderstanding. I’m disappointed that things ended the way they did, but I’m happy that Kevin stepped up and tried to make things right.

My husband and I have been going to PoliceTax for about 5 years. Kevin and his staff are the best! I’m surprised by some of the negative comments on here and instantly felt that I had to write about our positive experience year after year. We have had nothing but great customer service for the last 5 years. There is a little bit of a wait, but we think its well worth it. You can even go across the street to Starbucks, if you don’t want to wait in the lobby. Kevin is very thorough and always catches deductions that we did not know about. My husbands job requires special purchases through out the year and we like that Kevin knows exactly what we can claim on our taxes. We usually go to the San Dimas location. The staff is always friendly and the waiting room has snacks and movies. PoliceTax is the only place that we trust with our tax needs!

So I’ve been coming here for sometime now. And I’ve never really been pleased with the service they provide but I got my taxes done and it’s tailored to my profession. The very first time I went to see him I booked the very first appointment that morning and he was two hours late. So he couldn’t use the excuse that other appointments went over. I was a little upset but the truth is a simple apology would have made things better I understand things happen. Unfortunately I never got that apology. Since then I’ve had a semi bad taste in my mouth but I continued to go to him for the reasons I mentioned above. This year that has come to an end. I had an appointment at his office 3 months ago at 8pm or so but received a call from his office at 1pm which I couldn’t answer because I was in a meeting. They were checking to see if I could come in a little earlier like 6. I literally called back 5 or 10 mins later and wasn’t able to get a hold of anyone and left messages which no one returned. The messages I left advised that i sent over all of the documents and was checking to see if the appointment could be taken care of over the phone. Of course no one responded to me until 8:30pm asking me why I never came in for my appointment. After explaining what happened she said she was sorry and that Kevin would be getting a hold of me to complete the process. Now three months later I still haven’t received a response. What I have received within those three months is a IRS audit saying I owe them 11 hundred dollars. Of course I contacted Kevin once again and it’s going on a week and a half and I have yet to get a response. What’s funny is of course I check Unilocal and I see that I’m not the only one going through this problem. As much as I would like to support this guy the truth is he doesn’t support us like he proclaims. He shouldn’t be allowed to advertise in our magazines if this is how we’re are going to be treated. We have enough on our plates than to worry about dealing with an individual like this. Please save your money, time and heartache and go to someone who values you and your business.

Horrid. Absolutely the worst. Have been doing my taxes here for years and he wrongly entered 2014 information that I provided to him in his office, resulting in audit and extensive fines. I will be contacting the Department of Treasury regarding his practice and behavior.
DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE. You will regret it.

We have used Police Tax since they opened their doors. We wouldn’t use any other. The wait time though need to be addressed they have become insane. We scheduled for 4pm and at 8pm we are still waiting and my husband has to make his shift now late because of the 5 hour delay.

Horrible customer scheduling and service! Scheduled for 630pm and I have to wait until 11pm to get things done on a Sunday night!

We have been using Kevin for 4 years and we are pleased with him. Yes, it is a lengthy wait, but what we do is check in and go grab dinner and have them call us when we’re next. His staff is always courteous and Kevin has been very respectful and kind. I’m surprised at all of these negative comments.

Don’t waste your time dealing with this place. Good luck getting somebody on the phone when they screw your taxes up! My 2014 taxes were never filed. They emailed me April 21^st saying my taxes were done, give them $ 375.00 to file my taxes LATE!
0 stars is what they deserve.
It’s been almost a year that they’ve held my tax documents hostage.
H&R Block with do a better job.

All I have to say is, Kevin, the IRS is coming for you!
I’m so shocked in Kevin’s behavior. I had so much respect and admiration for Kevin. Kevin got me audited for my 2012 & 2013 taxes. He made false claims on my taxes on those years that I was not made aware of. Now I’m stuck owing the IRS 14k. I asked Kevin to represent me in my audit and no word AT ALL from Kevin. I left him several messages, email’s and office visits and still no call back or nothing. Kevin simply left me high and dry in front of the IRS. But it’s all ok. :-), I just received a letter from the U.S. Department Of Treasury in reference to Kevin Chinnock and I’m fully in cooperation with them.
A message to you Kevin, God does not like ugly behavior and you have shown your ugly ways to me and many others. The worst thing you could do is knowingly screw over a child of The Most High. He has saw your wicked ways. Im very surprised and taken by your actions Kevin. You take care sir.
I would not recommend this place to prepare my taxes in a Monopoly game… Haha

This has got to be the ABSOLUTE WORST TAX PREPARERS OFFICE in California.
We had an appointment in February 2015 with Kevin Chinnook who came recommended by another police officer who sang only great praises of this tax service.
We reached the office on time, only to find a packed office of customers who had been waiting at 3 hours prior to us reaching the office.
When we threatened to leave, Kevin’s asst. rushed us in and had another CPA prepare our paperwork. Minutes later we were sitting in an office with the clerk who was asking us for $ 385.00.
Fast forward 1 week, we contacted Police Tax to inform them that we had faxed over the additional paperwork to complete our taxes. We got confirmation from the office manager that all is taken care of.
Needless to say, June we have NOT RECEIVED ANYTHING. We had to reach out to Kevin, via his Kevin & Associate realty service to get a response to «WHERE IS MY REFUND!» Kevin promised to return the call the next day at 9:00am but never returned the call. The following day, Kevin was phoned again, after pretending that he could not hear me he refused to answer the call again.
Needless to say, to date JUNE 15, 2015 we have NOT received our 2014 tax return and Kevin has not answered any emails, or phone calls.
TAKE MY ADVICE, STAY AWAY FROM POLICE TAX. Their customer service is HORRIFIC. They will not EVER RETURN ANY PHONE CALLS.

I have had my taxes done here with Kevin the last 5 years. I am thoroughly disappointed with their service this year. I have tried a half dozen times to contact them regarding my taxes and have not even had a return phone call. I had two phone appointments this week and they have not called me to do the phone appointment. I have emailed them three times including Kevins email without a response. I do not recomend using Kevin’s tax service to anyone.

Lengthy delays, but great service once it’s done. If the process was a little more refined, it’d be a 4.5 or 5 star rating.

I really wish I could give this place 0 stars; there is nothing stellar about this business. Last year I scheduled a 10 AM appointment with Kevin only to be seen at 5PM. I AM NOT KIDDING. I had to call my work and tell them I would be late to my 5:30 shift. They also charged me $ 385 when I saw him for a whopping 15 minutes. Great.
This year I decided I did not feel like waiting 6 hours to be seen, so I chose to have a phone appointment. I emailed them all my documents one day prior just like they instructed. I made sure to be home with all my documents so I was prepared for this 6:30 appointment. 6:30 rolled around and no phone call. 6:45 turned into 7, which turned into 7:30. At this point I called the office to see whats going on and they informed me that they would email him and he would call me back. THAT NEVER HAPPENED. I was so frustrated that I just filed my taxes on turbo tax.
This guy and his «business» is a disgrace. I will never, ever use them again and I hope others follow suit, unless you like to be overcharged, waste your time and be lied to.

I HIGHLY HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND using Police Tax. I seriously CANNOT emphasize this enough. We spent $ 300 for one hour of service only to receive $ 3.000 less than what we usually get back AND on top of that NO ONE EVER returned our phone calls. EVER! This was the worst customer service I have experienced in a long time. Our taxes should have been finished weeks ago, and only because I have kept calling the office to check on our return, they just today emailed documents that apparently we need to sign and return in order to get our refund. It is one mistake after the next and I honestly just am chalking it up to a $ 300 lesson to never ever ever use Police Tax again.

i’m no tax whiz, but i checked out my estimated returns from turbotax, and it initially showed that i was going to owe $ 600… after throwing in some deductions that i had forgotten about, it readjusted to give me back a whopping $ 100. this didn’t sound great to me, and a friend had previously recommended kevin and policetax, so i made an appointment.
i showed up at 6:30 and signed in for my 6:45 appointment. i was brought quickly into the front office to get my «new client» stuff in order, went through about 10 – 15 minutes of setting up all my info, and then was taken back out to the lobby to wait to meet with kevin.
and there i waited… for two… hours… while i saw 4 or 5 people that had come in AFTER me go back BEFORE me.
i was frustrated and annoyed, and almost ready to get up and leave, finally was brought back to kevin’s office.
needless to say i wasn’t in the greatest mood, but that was quickly quelled by kevin, a super mellow dude who was really approachable and nice. and beyond that, he definitely knows what he is doing. i was only in his office for maybe a grand total of 15 minutes. after all that waiting and irritation, he crunched the numbers and worked out my deductions, and i walked out of the office with over $ 3,000 on the way to my bank account.
his service is pricey, but in my opinion it is FAR worth it, as you’ll get FAR more back than the money you’ll spend to get it. to go from expecting to pay $ 600, to expecting to get back $ 100, to getting back over $ 3,000 is an extremely pleasant surprise. i will be back here next year for more of the same! thanks kevin!

I have been coming to do my taxes with Kevin for years now. Its actually quite amazing to see these negative comments. He has always been great and saves me tons of money. His staff is also amazing and they provide you with snacks and movie while you wait. I’ve gone to other tax offices and I’ve had to wait just as long however i did not have snacks to munch on. I have referred many of my friends and family to him and they are happy with his service as well and I always receive my referral fee its awesome. I recommend giving Kevin a try, you will not be disappointed.

This is our sixth year with PoliceTax, and I am not even sure we will actually file with them this year when all is said and done.
Our first few years with them were pleasant and we felt that although we paid a high price tag ($ 250), our return was thoroughly completed.
For the last 2 – 3 years, their service has become increasingly worse. Last year, we had to wait 4 HOURS in the office before we were seen, and we had an appointment. The year before we waited 3 HOURS, and we had toddlers with us. For a business that caters to those that work on shifts, not to mention anyone that has a babysitter waiting at home, this is EXTREMELY disrespectful and beyond unprofessional. In addition, we were charged almost $ 100 more than we were quoted on the phone because we had an extra document needed to file. It was a slap in the face to have to pay this after the horrible wait time.
This year, we have been trying to get an appointment since early January (we debated if we were even going to go back), and there is absolutely nothing available until mid-​March. It is almost like they aren’t even working out of the San Dimas office this year. Very strange. Driving to the other offices is out of the question. We opted to try for our return to be completed by fax but it is almost two weeks of calling and NO ONE RETURNS OUR CALLS. This is not an exaggeration. We receive emails saying that they will «return our call» within 72 hours… um, okay, sure.
Very unprofessional for the price they ask. At this point, if I don’t have my return completed by this weekend (early March), I will have to TurboTax it.

My first year with this agency, Duke mangled my taxes so badly that Kevin promised to fix them plus do the next year’s return for free, so I stayed.
My second year, another coworker (who originally referred me) FLED PoliceTax after the IRS notified them their taxes had been filed improperly.
My third year was uneventful.
My fourth year, I got wise and scheduled an appointment by phone, only to never receive the call from Kevin at the allotted time. I made multiple calls about a half hour later, and eventually received the call from him. It took him all of 10 minutes to give me my figures, and I paid a whopping $ 275.
This year, MY FINAL year, I again scheduled an appointment by phone. ONE HOUR LATER, still no call. I called the answering service and was informed Kevin would be paged. ONE HOUR AND 45 MINUTES LATER, still no call. I called the answering service and told them to shred any and all documents they received of mine. I do not appreciate being tethered to my phone for hours on end when I also have a job to do.
I have since received numerous referrals for other tax preparers, and the best part is that I haven’t been quoted anything over $ 150!
If you use PoliceTax, do so at your own risk.

I have been going to Kevin and Police Tax for several years now and I have never been disappointed.
I am very suprised by the negative reviews here… there is usually a long wait at some of his locations, but his service make it worth it… at least to me. I’ve been to both the Long Beach office and the San Dimas office. Thanks Kevin and Police Tax for taking care of my tax preparation needs.

Kevin and his team have been doing my taxes for 2 years now & we couldn’t be happier. They have locations in San Dimas, Long Beach, Valencia, Palmdale and Irvine which makes it really convenient. The office is set up to be really welcoming with drinks, snacks & movies on TV. The staff is great they move you through the process quickly. My husband has a lot of itemized deductions with his job and Kevin always catches all of them, even the ones we forget to tell him about! Kevin helps us to get the most we can each year.
I will definitely return to Policetax next year!
