The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf

The first time I had a hot chai latte here I thought it was really good but each time I’ve come back for another one since then, it’s never been the same. It’s always not enough tea, or not enough sweetness. Almost ALWAYS tastes like plain steamed milk. And a lot of the time the latte just isn’t distributed throughout the drink. When I get to the bottom it’s always SPITFIRE sugar and tea, which I guess isn’t really their fault, but it’s very disappointing. :o (Nevertheless service is good, the same two girls are always working here when I come before morning class.

First time at the school Coffee Bean and they didn’t put my order on the screen. That’s the only negative so far but the way the barista handled it was perfect.

I really like this coffee bean, and it was always me go-​to coffee place while I was at CSULB. In fact, it’s probably the best quality coffee that you can find on campus. Everyone who works at this Coffee Bean is so friendly, and they always chat with me while I’m ordering my drink. They all seem like they are happy to work there.
Despite how busy they get, especially during certain times of day, this coffee bean never has a horribly long wait. I really appreciated the fact that I could grab a latte quickly on my way to class. The Starbucks on campus has crazy long lines most of the time, and I think Coffee Bean has better quality coffee anyway. They open early, and even stay open during the summer which was helpful to me because I worked on campus for three years, which included summers.
Although there is very limited seating inside, it is connected to the USU which has a lot of tables, and it also has outdoor seating — so seating has never been an issue for me. I am very glad I had this available to me during my years at CSULB!

Overall, the purchasing and enjoying of coffees and various treats at this Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf are good. I wish this location had more space to operate.
THE GOOD
— The brewed coffee is good. Unlike other coffee shops, the coffee here is not roasted into oblivion. There’s no burned bean taste associated with any of their coffees.
— The assorted pastries and treats sold here are not phenomenal but are still good. I prefer chocolate croissants and bagels.
— The regular staff is very nice and quite helpful. I’m often deep in thought thinking about physics when I go to buy coffee here so apologies to any employees, who may be reading this, who may have helped me. Sometimes I can be in my own world.
— They always accommodate my friend, Jaylen, who can be difficult to help. He’s very particular.
THE BAD
— The ice blended drinks taste a bit odd. I don’t know what it is. I don’t blame the staff. I simply don’t enjoy the taste of those drinks.
THE UGLY
— I wish the coffee shops on campus were bigger.
— A larger outdoor seating area would make sense for a school the size of CSULB.

This coffee bean is awesome! I always come in and come out in 5 minutes. The line is always long, but it moves super fast. The iced hazelnut lattes with 3 shots of espresso keep me sane!

Located inside the USU. Line is always shorter than Starbucks and the coffee is never bad. The baristas are cool and prices are reasonable. Also, they remember your name!
I only order two things from here: an Americano and a Red Eye. They’re always done perfectly. Love this place!

Every single time I come here I feel so loved!
Timmy and Wilson always know my order and pastry!
They are consistent, polite, and super funny!
Definitely a great way to start my day!

The Black Forest is what keeps bringing me back.

The drinks are solid, and no one needs to hear about how great they are. The special powder makes everything better and you can get a 32 oz tea on the cheap.
The staff is perfect here. It’s the staff that makes this place amazing. They are friendly, remember your name, your order and have it ready for you before you even pay.
If I ever move jobs, this is what I would miss most.

Great place for a coffee and a stroll

Friendly service, good drinks, clean place. For a campus coffee shop, it’s not bad, unless someone is training or new, your going to get your drinks pretty fast and they’re accommodating with drinks, if you want less ice, you ask for less ice, if you don’t like your drinks too sweet, mention that before hand.

I go here almost every weekday, and just realized I never did a review on here! There is really nothing bad to be said about this place. The employees are always cheerful and pleasant, the food and drinks are always good, and I keep coming back. This location is located in the middle of the busy CSULB campus, and has a pretty consistent stream of customers lined up, but service is always excellent and fast. I usually get one of the Ice Blended drinks with the no sugar added powder. Other items I sometimes splurge on include the butter croissants, the bagels, the iced teas, and seasonal drinks like the Winter Dream tea latte, or the pumpkin or honeydew Ice Blended drinks. To me, Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf is FAAAR better than Starbucks! I am so happy there is a location on campus!

I drink Starbucks, live Starbucks, and work there as well. Which is why I cannot give them five stars.
HOWEVER, they have the best green tea I have ever had!!!
So aromatic and not overpowering and strong whatsoever!
I’m going to stop writing now for the fear of losing my job!
