As Efti P. indicated, the price seems higher than you might expect. Although I didn’t expect to spend $ 4.59 per hot dog, I suppose I’ve paid more for less food at places Smorgasburg, and these are really good hot dogs. WindMill certainly prevails over competitors on the topping side, with an impressive assortment of relishes. The fries are decent, not a must-have. The setting is delightfully retro.

Well to start off I hated that they had pots of sauerkraut on the counter the extras are also on the counter uncovered so I decided to have a hamburger. Well that was a huge mistake. The hamburger was so flat and just greasy with no taste. There wasn’t even any taste to the onions or tomato. I would think twice before stopping. Hamburger and a lemonade was almost 8.00 and totally not worth it. Wendy’s has better burgers.

I was looking for great fries and a decent hot dog. I found neither here. In case you’re curious, my point of reference is Rutt’s Hut in Clifton, NJ.

Grrr. this is going to be slightly ambivalent. I wanna ding Wind Mill for being over priced. It is. A little too much cost for what your getting. Ok. Now with that out of the way. ITSFUCKINGOOD! The burger is so juicy. The fries are always good and the Dog Done right everytime. This place is overpriced, cash only(last time I went Ive been living in California a while now), and the food takes a while. All pet peeves of mine. And its one of the few businesses on Earth I’ll give a pass for that EVERYTIME. Plus its a Jersey Cultural Icon. Really delicious. I’m surprised is such few Unilocal reviews

If you’re reading reviews for this place, you might be a hot dog aficionado. Know that this is perhaps one of the best hot dog places I’ve been to in New Jersey — it ranks up there with Hot Grill in Clifton and my old favorite of all time, the late Callahan’s in Little Ferry. Windmill is a Jersey shore-local chain, and this particular one isn’t too far from Pier Village. For starters, this place is a freakin’ windmill… literally. If you’ve going to visit a Windmill franchise, let this be the one, it’s the coolest. I had a burger and a dog, and both were done to perfection. Non-greasy, extremely fresh. The burger was very similar to the ones you’d find out west at In-N-Out. My friend had the same, and we shared some chili fries(also, nicely done and not too greasy). The prices are just right. As a closing note, I have to mention that the spirits of the workers here are sky high. I’ve never seen such enthusiastic short order cooks before — it’s a great atmosphere and a rarity when the staff attempt to make you smile and interact with you. Give these guys a tip before you leave, they deserve it!

There’s no comparing how great The Windmill hot dogs are. I grew up in Long Branch and had them almost every day in the summers. After moving to Los Angeles 19 years ago I’ve tried many out there that people raved about. Not good! I wait to travel back to NJ now whenever I get a craving. I’m getting hungry writing this review!

Great burgers and hotdogs and cheese fries. *Make sure if you ask for a well done hotdog that it hasn’t sat on the grill and hardened. That happened a couple of times but they’ll remedy it for you in a jiffy. Other than that, the cheese fries are unparallelled in the universe! The owners really care about their business and the food is great! Email of owners in case of «issue»: You can sign up for coupons and they’ll send em’ to you every month! It is always fresh ground meat, never frozen so the grill kiss it gets makes your mouth water at the mere thought after having one. I love a double cheeseburger with onion and a smidge of mayo. THEBOMB! Their breaded mushrooms with the killer creamy horseradish sauce is a brilliantly different side when you have a yen for something different. The prices are higher than McDonald’s but in freshness, flavor, quality and as a solid Jersey Shore experience must-do, you can’t beat The Windmill in West End!

This is one of the reviews where I’d give the food 5 stars, but something just rubbed me the wrong way about the service, so I’ll give it an A-OK. The Windmill is a cute little hot dog stand on Ocean Boulevard. You can’t miss it – it looks like a big red windmill in the middle of the highway. There’s plenty of parking, although obviously not much seating(although word is you can request to go sit on the roof for a spectacular view). When we got to the Windmill, I checked into Unilocal. To my surprise, I saw a coupon pop up. I brought my iPhone to the counter, but I immediately got a terse«we don’t take that, you have to print it». I tried to explain to them how Unilocal coupons work, but they treated me as if I were trying to pull a fast one on them. The amount wasn’t that much, but by now I felt on principle that I should try to tell them how it worked so that in the future if they encountered other customers they would know what to do. After a while, what I assume was a manager sort of gruffly gave me the discount. He and the entire staff groused in front of us about how their management doesn’t tell them these things. The whole exchange just kind of rubbed me the wrong way. Whether it’s the management’s fault or the employee’s fault, they should really not try to make the customer be the one to feel like a heel. Having said that, the hot dogs were great. They had a nice«snap» when you bit into them. There was a nice selection of condiments to the side, from chopped onions to pickles to ketchup to fresh spicy, chunky ketchup. Of course, being a purist I had just the mustard. The cheese fries were also excellent. I did notice that they were super-nice to the«regulars» who stopped by, so perhaps my experience was just a fluke. I don’t get to the Shore very often, but next time I do I’ll see if I can stop by again and see if their service improves.
