Learned soooo much, Dan was an excellent teacher and very hands on. I would highly recommend taking any of his classes. A+++

Really fun girls night! 4 of us with varying cooking skills all got something out of this. The food came out great and I have more confidence in the kitchen. Dan is a great and patient teacher. Easy to get to, easy to book, easy to communicate with Dan to set up.
Can’t wait to make these recipes on my own and put my new skills to work.

This was a great class. My boyfriend and I weren’t totally beginners, but we certainly learned helpful tips and tricks throughout the course.
Dan was super organized, patient, and considerate. I loved his chart of cooking techniques for dry heat vs. moist heat and continue to reference it from time to time. He made sure each participant had a role and contributed to the dishes, and was observant to ensure we were using the right knife techniques.
I’ll be making chicken wings again soon — having them first cook on the wire rack to drip fat was a great tip!

This class was very helpful! Dan showed us a technique with broccoli and brussels sprouts that I hadn’t thought of before. I’m not a complete beginner, but the class was helpful to remind me that it is doable to cook dinner, even after a long day at work.

This class was so incredibly helpful for me. I am a true beginner and came to class with next to zero knowledge.
Dan is so helpful and patient and walks everyone through each step. His recipes are easy to remember and he also guides you through the basics (knife skills).
I highly recommend this class to anyone who wants to learn how to cook but doesn’t know where to start!

SImply put, this was a great experience!
I’m not quite a beginner, but certainly far from an expert cook. Dan’s class is open to all skill levels. With 6 of us there for the class, organization could’ve been a problem — y’know, the whole too many chefs thing. Dan had it all perfectly coordinated, assigning each person to tasks that fit their skill level.
The food came out perfect! I know that I took away some great new skills from the class, and a better appreciation for a variety of cooking methods.
I highly recommend this to anyone that wants to up their cooking game!

Dan is a great teacher because he has what it takes to be an inspiring educator: passion, kindness, motivation and gentleness. As a beginner, I couldn’t have hoped for someone better to inspire me to explore cooking on my own. Dan is patient, funny and very knowledgeable. He will give you great advice on tips and techniques that will make your life a lot easier. I am very happy I took this class and I plan to go back for a second course (pun intended!) soon. I highly recommend it!

This class goes at the perfect pace and no question is too stupid to ask. I left this class feeling a lot more confident about my cooking and with a couple new techniques that I can apply to other dishes too. It’s a fun class to do with friends or make new friends. And we were able to make requests (in advance) about what we wanted to cook. I also like that he will answer your questions even after the class.

I attended a class and learned so much, from knife skills to how to properly time the different parts of the meal so everything gets done at the same time. Dan took the time to get to know what our cooking experiences were and cater the lesson to our skill set. He was patient and explained why he was doing what he was doing, drawing on his own experiences and inspiration from living abroad. He got everyone engaged in the cooking process, which is impressive considering there were 5 people in his small but well organized kitchen. This is a great class for beginners.

Loved the class! It was just what I needed. Before attending the class I was pretty intimidated by the cooking process. There is no substitute for getting hands-​on experience. Worked with a variety of meat, vegetables, cookware, spices and herbs. We prepared the food using roasting, sautéing, grilling and stir frying techniques. The sautéed shrimp w/​vegetables and pasta was my favorite dish. The value of the class cannot be overstated. Dan gave us great info on cookware that provides the same quality, at less than half the price, as the high end sets that are out there today. The class also covered cooking with cast-​iron and woks and instruction on using cutlery. We were provided with a list of «must have on-​hand items», given tips on food storage, and supplied with charts of average cooking times for various food groups. Dan did all the research work for the cooking enthusiast and dropped it right in our laps. The class would make a great gift for that eager-​to-​learn, but «not-​sure-​where-​to-​start» cooking novice.

Dan was very friendly and patient. Also stern and careful. I am going to admit that I was a little concerned when I arrived at the floor, I expected to see a sign that perhaps would indicate it was the right location. It looked like I was going to a private apartment. Which it was, but Dan works from an apartment. So I was cautious… I just didn’t want to get axe murdered. LMAO. But in all seriousness I enjoyed the class. The apartment was small, but there were only 6 people total. And I also think that cooksingle is new. I do wonder though… I used a groupon and idk if the class is worth $ 100. (I paid $ 50) No offense, but it just wouldn’t be. I am a college student on a budget, though, so maybe that’s different. I only took the class to learn to cook for myself. I learned to cook new veggies and use tools.
Oh! And Dan is not strict about measurements. Which totally set off my crazy-​ocd-​habit. But everything we cooked came out wonderfully.

This was a great class, we had our class on a wednesday night and it was delightful. We cooked and prepared everything from scratch with instructions from Dan. We made 2 entrees; roasted chicken wings with veggie and grilled pork cubes with stir fry veggies, it was delicious. I would definitely recommend this class to anyone.

I thoroughly enjoyed my class with Dan Dolgin at CookSingleNYC. It took place in his sunny, airy apartment in LIC, which, surprise to this Upper West Sider, was SO easy to get to. This was a user-​friendly, unstuffy experience geared to both the lapsed, unmotivated cook (me) and the non-​cook who wants to learn basic skills in a totally non-​intimidating setting. Dan is cheerful, well-​organized, and patient and his ongoing enthusiasm is infectious. I felt as if I were at a party of friends, chattering and asking questions as we got a hands-​on experience with the food prep and cooking. We practiced basic knife skills, sautéing, roasting, and stir frying in a wok. He suggested sources for inexpensive equipment and kitchen staples. He gave well-​designed handouts so we didn’t need to take notes. He made clear that the recipes are meant only as a jumping-​off point. The idea is to learn how to improvise with what we have on hand in our fridge, freezer, and cupboard. Through the addition of herbs, spices, and condiments, each meal can be varied endlessly. He shows how to do this using a minimum of bowls, pans, and utensils, simplifying the clean-​up that so many of us dread.
PLUS…the class isn’t over when it’s over. Dan provides links to his website and interactive blog, with gorgeous photos, which reinforce and expand upon what we’ve learned and allow us to share our individual cooking epiphanies. Furthermore we can maintain contact by joining his related Meetup expeditions to Union Square Farmers Market and China Town. Skills are great to have but for me, this kind of follow-​up is crucial in making home cooking a new habit.

As someone who is just starting out learning how to make meals for one, Dan Dolgin’s Cooksingle NYC was a fantastic find for me. Dan is a great teacher and does an amazing job of creating a positive and interactive atmosphere while instructing our small group how to put together a couple of pretty simple but tasty meals. I never knew you could roast a parsnip… and that it would be delicious!
What I liked the most was the camaraderie that developed and how everyone got to participate and ask a multitude of questions. Dan also did a great job of sharing little tricks and tips along the way like how to measure out single servings of pasta and the best way to hold a chef’s knife. Informative and fun; I would recommend this class to any beginner chef!

Great cooking class. I now know how to make shrimp with pasta and veggies AND chicken wings with veggies. The veggies tasted great with the chicken wings and made it a healthy side dish.
Dan is an excellent teacher. He makes sure that everyone is involved and learning how to cook in an interactive setting. I’m definitely looking forward to taking his other cooking classes. It’s a great value and I’m now saving money by cooking at home.
I would recommend this class to novice cooks as well as anyone who wants to learn how to cook new dishes in simple ways. His handouts are fantastic. It’s almost like taking Dan home but now I can cook my own meals in my own kitchen.

Cook Single NYC is a unique and timely venture by Dan Dolgin that champions the inhibitions of those (such as myself) who lack confidence and skill at preparing their own meals. The kitchen, for me, has always been a place fraught with indecision and looming disaster and in a mere two encounters with Dan I have prepared three savory and very tasty dishes that I’ve both enjoyed and would be proud to serve.
Dan is very knowledgeable, motivating, and very supportive. His course material is extremely thorough while also succinct (not a small task). The space Dan provides for learning is intimate, familiar (he utilizes the cooking space of most small kitchens), and hospitable (Dan’s very engaging). Run, don’t walk, to Cook Single NYC; both your wallet and taste buds will thank you!

Dan Dolgin of CookSingleNYC is an amazing teacher and has the perfect small basics class for the beginner cook! The facilities are clean and filled with light. The class was phenomenal, and included a small enthusiastic group of beginner cooks and Dan Dolgrin is an extremely supportive, kind, open, highly knowledgeable, and patient teacher. Last night, we made two dishes; one was roasted BBQ chicken wings with potato, parsnip, and zucchini mash, during which we actually learned how to cut the wings apart and how to cook with little cleanup at the end. The other dish was shrimp with pasta, asparagus, corn, and peas. All made from scratch. Both were relatively quick dishes, easy to make and change to your own specification and preferences, and absolutely delicious. Thank you Dan Dolgin for offering everyone the opportunity to honor themselves with a simple and satisfying homemade dish!
