I have had many good memories from this place. Most of which happened in the 90s. But I have stopped in here and there in the 2000s and recently. Anywho… Too bad Hu Ke Lau it has closed and I agree what people have been saying about the venue, is true. It is outdated and worn out, and needs to be completely renovated. Adding windows would be good too… maybe they did not include them in the original construction of the building to save money who knows. If someone buys and renovates the place please add windows. Skylights might help too… One must realize that Americanized«Chinese Food» is not quite authentic Chinese. It is meant to be greasy, salty, etc to fit the American appetite, at least that of yesteryear. I am surprised with some of the reactions that I’ve seen in the reviews. OMG this Chinese food is greasy? OMG after I pigged out on it, my stomach hurts? Well, duh… (but a sincere thank you to those reviewers for the ROFLs they warmed me up with the cold temperature outside) So for the old school American version«Chinese Food» I would rate it top notch and would still take out from here when I was looking for this. They were the best in the area. I have always found the staff here to be extremely polite and professional even towards the end. Kudos to them even though they must have known the place was a sinking ship. I always left a good tip. As for the«my waiter is a smoker» what a lame first world complaint… I used to smoke and I have quit, but it is not easy. They are just trying to make an honest living. There is another place in neighboring Springfield called Peacock Chinese Restaurant. They have the same issue — haven’t updated the interior in ages and it is a worn out décor. But if you are looking for the old school recipe — it is very similar to Hu Ke Lau. If you are a snob then avoid the place. Go for a Japanese restaurant perhaps. By the way I love Japanese food — so don’t take that the wrong way… I hope someone buys this place, renovates and rejuvenates it, so I can have many more good memories here.

Shutting down for good in January. Place would be a good location to film a movie set in 1970 since nothing has changed since then.(For real !) Bar is without charm but the only thing that is semi-functional at this point. Poo poo platter is named that for a reason.

So many drink options, but the food causes a serious stomach ache.

Everything was dreadful from the weird décor, to the oily appetizer, the waiter that just smoked a cigarette, to the dirty dishes and soggy food. Actually the cocktails were good. Other then that it was awful.

I was craving Chinese and decided to try this place. Why not? It’s so close to home. We walked in and totally wasn’t feeling the place. It was early, and the bar was pretty full. Maybe people come here to drink rather than eat? I don’t know. There were three sections to sit at, and the other two rooms seemed pretty dead. I get the feeling that it’s not used very often, since the lights were off. I honestly felt like we stepped into a 1970’s skanky Las Vegas hotel. The carpet was dingy pink and everything seemed to be falling apart. There was a wall, that was made to allow water to flow down, and only half of it worked. The mirror also seemed to have mold spots… Or something dark growing on it. There were outdated and dusty flowers laid out in front of it. The food was decent, but not great. They definitely aren’t shisty amount the serving size… I mean, we had left over galore! My hubby said he thought the food tasted like cigarettes. We probably won’t come here again. I really wanted to love it. The service was great, I wouldn’t change that!!! I think upgrading a few things in there would totally change the feel of the place. Maybe just new carpet?

Yeah don’t bother here. Wonton soup was really bland. My pork fried rice tasted of sitting in a refrigerator and didn’t look fresh. Crab yummy was ok. Moo goo gai pan was also mediocre, I have a slight suspicion it was all microwaved. The waiter was really nice. Not his fault of the quality of the food, so I was sure to tip him well. One thing I must admit is that although the food tasted terrible, for two lunch specials it came out to only $ 12. Really cheap but you taste the cheapness… I wish I would I read all the reviews on here before we decided to eat here.

Hands down the worst chinese food I have EVER had!!! Greasy, tasteless and the staff was rude. Save your money, stay home, and enjoy a home cooked meal!

DONTEATHERE! I used to ride my bike around this place when I was a kid and I would always see buckets of meat stored out back covered in flies and bugs. I figured it was trash until I saw one of the cooks walk out and grab a piece to cook in the kitchen.

Disgusting!!! Odor upon entering, carpeting that looked like it had not been cleaned in 30 years… ceiling all stained and mold! We were not surprised that we were the only people in there at dinner time. word must have gotten out!!! The food was certainly not what we had remembered… should really close down and start over!

Also houses pretty much one of the only bars in Longmeadow(Rinaldi’s has one as well). I’m not changing my review, as Hu Ke Lau is still what it always has been(Greasy Spoon Polynesian food), but that needed to be said.

Not a good meal at hu ke lau takeout. Egg rolls were greasy and limp. Sweet n sour chicken was drenched in red sauce that was too sweet. Cookie was even stale. Maybe just a bad night but I will not go back.

Large portions of pretty bad«chinese food», would not recommend. Pork in pork fried rice tastes like it has gone bad, skin on egg roll thick as leather — content of egg roll unimpressive, Canned pineapple taste like the can. Not sure how this place stays open. felt bloated after i left.

I ordered the chow fun and a huge plate was brought to me; unfortunately it was more than half bean sprouts with shahe fen noodles tossed in. The flavor of the noodles and chicken was spot on although it was a little«wet» for my liking. Evidently the drinks are the draw here as stated in a previous review. Table next to me ordered Scorpion bowls and Mai Tais at 1130 on a Tuesday morning.

After reading the negative reviews on this restaurant I decided to give it a try anyway since friends wanted to meet for lunch there. What a mistake! The food was barely edible, even the tea and complimentary canned pineapple chunks tasted weird. Won ton soup(Couldn’t get hot and sour because the waiter told me it wasn’t good and I wouldn’t like it!) was lukewarm. Spicey orange chicken was greasy and tasteless. Fried rice accompanying also managed to be greasy and contained some suspicious meat product. Save your money, your time and indigestion and avoid this restaurant at all costs. PS How do they make a profit? Huge space in a desirable location, almost empty since other wiser folks go elsewhere.

I have friends that love this place so I recently decided to give it another shot, having not liked it in the past. Mistake. I ordered the sesame chicken and had to throw it away after a couple of bites. It was mostly breading and it the oil must not have been hot enough because it was soggy. All the pieces had kind of mooshed together. I love Chinese food but I would rather eat at an airport Chinese place than here.

This was my first Chinese restaurant, so it will always be my favorite. Every time I visit my hometown, I am sure to come here for lunch to get a #14.(Boneless spare ribs, chicken fingers and pork fried rice with won ton soup.) The fried rice tastes like someone was smoking when making it, the soup is too salty to be good, and the appetizers are unlike you’d get anywhere else. One time, my friend took his wife here. She’s Chinese and used to own a restaurant. Upon trying her food, she said in a soft voice, «I don’t think the cook is Chinese.» Great moment. Apt description. No matter, though. The appetizers and fried rice are all you should order here. Don’t look at the rest of the menu, I implore you! This place will always have a fond place in my heart because it was open late on the weekends, and when we were in high school, we could walk here on a snowy night, and order scorpion bowls. «Are you 21?» «Yes.» Anyone who grew up in Longmeadow loves this place.

Yikes this place was bad! I ordered a small soup, an eggroll, and general tso’s chicken for takeout which cost me near $ 20…and when i got home and opened my food there was no rice! When i drove back and told them about the mistake, they told me that rice isn’t included — it has to be ordered seperetely and then they had the balls to charge me $ 2 + tax for rice!(would have been nice to mention that it doesn’t include rice when i gave my order Ok, so I finally drive back home and sat down to eat the food — the soup was fine, but the eggroll wasn’t great and the chicken was a disaster — just one large mushy disgusting ball. There didn’t seem to be a single piece of actual white meat good quality chicken. I’ll never order from here again.
