So much about this shop reminds me of my childhood spent at my family’s bike shop. From the moment I walked in and seeing the vintage cycling photos on the wall to hanging out with the owner Pete Shones around the repair stand, I got the sense that there was a much deeper story of how and why Pete put everything on the line to open up ACME Bicycles over 10 years ago. He has a rich family history in the sport and it shows clearly in his approach to customer service, his character and how he honors his grandfather’s historic contributions to cycling. Pete is friendly and approachable, just as I would expect any shop owner to be, but sadly that isn’t always the case. The repairs to my best friends bike were completed in a timely manner and priced in line with what I would pay anywhere else for a great experience. Thanks Pete!

I have been going to Pete for a few years now. It’s really hard these days to find a bike shop where the owner cares more about getting you into the right bike and taking care of you as a customer than simply making as much profit as is possible. That’s why I take all my bikes to Pete and buy all my bikes from him. The quality, attention to detail, and price point are outstanding — plus Pete and Jared are both great to work with, and very knowledgeable and helpful. Acme Bikes will continue to get all my business as I hope they will continue to stay in business for many, many years to come. So if you’re looking for a great local bike shop, you’ve found it!

Great little bike shop. The guy didn’t try to over sell anything, and he’s super knowledgeable and helpful. Fair priced as well.

Love the home town feel of this place. The owner is a nice guy that cares about your business whether you are just browsing or buying an inner tube.

Sometimes smaller is better and in this case, it’s much better. Pete is one of the most knowledgeable shop owners I have ever met and I’ve been an avid cyclist almost all of my life. Not only is he one of the coolest shop owners around, but he also has a long family history of cycling. Check the vintage photos on the walls of his grandfather, racing in Europe. Pete is also a straight-shooter. If you bring in a bicycle that isn’t worth repairing, instead of putting band-aids on it, squeezing a few dollars out of you and endangering whomever rides that bicycle, he’ll tell the truth. Also, if you need any parts that he doesn’t have in stock, he’ll order the part in lieu of trying to sell you something you don’t need or will not work properly. Claiming that the value of a local bicycle shop owner/operator who provides this kind of service is high would be an understatement.

Love this place! We’ve bought several bikes here; Pete is always helpful and friendly. He has done repairs for us, too, and costs are reasonable. Fixes things fast, too!

It’s nice to walk into a shop and be able to jam with the owner like a normal human being. I’ve been used to the holier than thou mentality I get in a lot of bike shops. If I don’t roll up on some off the wall, $ 10,000 bike then what’s the point? Right? This doesn’t happen here. Pete, the owner, is always there to help and help he does. I had gone into the shop a long time ago before he moved, but hadn’t visited the new location. I had been going to another close by bike shop and never liked walking in there cause of the attitude I got, even from the older guys! If you need any honest advice, helpful and friendly, head over and see Pete, he’ll steer you right. Right on !!!

I’ve now purchased 2 bikes from Acme, a mountain bike in June and a road bike in December. This shop doesn’t have the inventory selection of the larger bike stores, but they make up for it with knowledge and genuine customer service. Additionally, because they aren’t a high volume dealer you will often find a few of last year’s models for sale, usually at a deep discount. Let me give a few examples of their customer service. I had a rough outing on my mountain bike and did some serious damage to my drivetrain and brakes. Instead of charging me to replace everything, Pete(the owner) spent an extra day straightening and aligning my bent chainring, front wheel, front disc brake, and rear derailer. Any other shop would have charged for(and quoted me for) replacing most of those parts. When I started shopping for a road bike I stopped in and talked to Pete. He offered me a 2006 model at a $ 200 price reduction from the sale price he already had posted. When I bought a bike from another shop that turned out bad(see my Bicycle Village review), Pete and Dennis did the repairs to get me home and took the cost of the repairs off the price of the road bike I bought from them. You will pay a little more to get a bike from Acme, but the customer service is well worth the few extra dollars. Further, if you need something that they don’t carry, let them know and they will order it just for you!
