I have a social group that has been to Dickens about 3 times during 2015, the last of which was our annual Christmas Lunch & Gift Exchange. We had 19 ladies in attendance in the closed door room right off the bar. Our meals were wonderful and delivered to us in a timely manner. The staff and the food has always been consistently excellent. Lynn who helped me with the reservation and fine tuning was easy to work with as well. Thanks to Dickens for making our year!

Every couple of months we give Dickens Tavern another try as the food here is actually pretty good. But service has been terrible every single time we’ve come. They are always extremely understaffed at the front of house and I’m assuming the back of house as well. Be prepared to wait 5 mins or more for a hostess to greet you as they are probably running around trying to bus tables. When you are seated expect about a 10 min wait for someone to bring you menus and get you a drink order and then another 15 mins for those drinks to come and place your order for food. Food comes out just as slow. The food is actually pretty good. It’s an eclectic menu and I’m not really sure what culinary style they are going for. It would be nice to see a more cohesive menu. Management really needs to change here before we attempt it again. We saw a manager pace around a couple times but not once ask how we are doing or make any effort to assist his busy employees. I think this past time our waitress knew we were unhappy as she apologized for all the waiting we had to do and gave us a free appetizer voucher for next time. Hope Dickens Tavern can turn their service around

Another one of Longmont jewels it’s not hidden but I think it is little over looked . If you like old buildings and big tall rooms this is for you. Tin type ceilings in one room complete with a ghost dog in one old picture. I think the coolest part is the vault/wine cellar wher you can eat inside a bank vault. We used to play pool upstairs in the opra room but that was long ago . Best French onion soup in town, really all the food has always been good . Good food a killer ambience how can you could go wrong ? Gary

Delicious food. My dish was a classier than pub grub, and that is how I would describe the atmosphere too. Very cool old building, very good food, and excellent, friendly service. 10⁄10 times would go back.

I have eaten at The Dickens many times and have always had a great experience! I always try to sit at the bar, as I’m usually by myself! This past Friday was the best ever with great Martinis, red wine and the Pub Bacon wrapped shrimp and sweet potato fries… to die for! I also had the fish of the day which was an amazing white fish with all the trimmings! I also had the peach cobbler which was one of the best I’ve ever had! Compliments to the Chef and Murph and team who work one… if not the best Bars in Boulder County! Thanks again for such a great experience!

Excellent food, excellent service and a beautiful, historic building to boot! Our server, Shelby, was new here but an experienced waitress and she was great at anticipating our needs and suggesting items we’d like. The Dickens Pie is great, would suggest the small, and the green chili polenta dish is outstanding. And, you must go to the bathroom on the main floor and check out the unusual toilet. A great experience for four people from out of state!

Super duper new menu! Historical opera house restaurant, offering great food, drinks and fair prices. The competition is real on Main Street. Staff is well educated about the new menu items and have great pride in service. even over Labor Day weekend. Bacon covered stuffed jalapeño shrimp and fries with 3 different dipping sauces. Fantastic! Also serves Sunday brunch!

A very nice tavern serving pretty good American fare, originally built William Henry Dickens, a relative of Charles Dickens. They have Dickens Opera House upstairs, where they have live music shows(not your typical Opera House). It is a big red brick building, you won’t miss it. Inside is big, with dark wood furniture and exposed brick wall, making that tavern feel that is warm and welcoming. The food is very big and filling, and service was friendly and polite. A great place to hang out with friends and family over a good, comforting food. Read my full review of this restaurant and food on my food blog, foodlovergirl.

Traveling cross country with kids. Great, friendly service. Gave the kids wiki stix to play with. Food was good. Had Dickens pie, London broil and firecracker shrimp pasta. All very good. Nice atmosphere, but it was Sunday night so it wasnt too crowded. Would definitely return here in future.

Was visiting from up north and found this an excellent place for food and drink. The food was prepared to perfection and desserts as well. Came here last year, and the food has exceeded what it was then. Will be down again in the fall, and this will be the 1st place I venture to.

We go here all the time, great restaurant, food and service. Last night we decided to sit on the patio. Three stars are for the noise and vehicle exhaust. I wish they would put up a tall plexiglass wall around the patio. It would eliminate both issues. It was a beautiful evening and most of the tables were empty compared to other area restaurants!

Very cool atmosphere in the bar area. Served several great local brews– including two on nitro. Milk Stout was excellent. The meatloaf was not special, but satisfying. The bisque soup was very nice.

Best spot in Longmont for anything. Happy Hour from 3 – 7 with the best bartenders in the city(even on the weekends!). All the food is utterly delicious and the service is by far the fastest around. You won’t be waiting longer than 30 seconds for a beer with Murph and Steph back there. great place!

In short, fast, friendly service on a busy night, great burger, a pint of Guinness … great experience. Delicious burger, cooked perfectly to order … a «Shorty» I believe it’s called(cheese, bacon, BBQ sauce, and more). I generally go with a burger when trying a place for the first time … if they can’t get that right, there’s little hope. Well, they got it right … damn-near perfect, I’d say. The place was crazy-busy, and the waitress kept apologizing … for what, I can’t imagine, as she was doing a great job keeping up. The place may have been understaffed, because she was moving fast, with no discernable break in the action. I ate in the bar, which was pretty cozy. It was Friday night … so … a bit loud, but not enough to disrupt the conversation at the tables.

Probably more like a 3 ½, but not quite a 4. The ambiance is great, with older charm. Our server was kind and efficient. We had the deep-fried pickles, and they were good, not the best ever, but it’s impossible to not make a tasty deep-fried pickle. I had the prime rib dinner, and it was pretty average. The meat was cooked med-rare(I prefer med, but it’s okay this way), but just didn’t carry a lot of flavor. The outer crust was not seasoned enough. The rest of the meal was good, but I really wanted the food to have more flavor.

Ok I travel a lot and get to experience a vast number of restaurants, both good and the not so good. With that said, I have to tell you Dickens Tavern is good. Had a party of 4 and no reservations and the place was packed. No problem we were seated within 5 – 7 minutes. One of our party ran a little late and the wait staff didn’t try to push us to order. Ordered a draft beer and let me tell you when they brought it out, it was huge 20 oz. I had the Pub Shrimp or as I like to call it the Shrimp and No Grits. This is their take on a southern classic and it was very good. Shrimp wrapped with bacon served on a bed of mashed potatoes with baby Lima beans and green onion with a nice spicy aoli. Tasty. Understand they used to use polenta and for my taste I would go back to that or better yet real grits.

Where do I start? I know that my expectations were pretty high for this place, considering the reviews and the fact that I was a starvin’ marvin when I got here. So, I’m trying to take into consideration the disappointment factor(and not letting it skew my review overly much). But, when your table gets so many plates with the wrong food and drinks, you just can’t give a place a good review. The waiter didn’t seem to be listening very well; he took our tables’ drink orders and unless you ordered one of the two standard drinks, you didn’t get what you ordered. I’ll say that management allowed us to keep the extra drink, so I still had high hopes. Then we order our meals. I know that making substitutions can be a big pain, and I understand including a small upcharge for these services. That’s fine. But when the kitchen is inconsistent with their plating, it makes it seem like they were trying to hide things(like a vegetarian isn’t going to notice the bits of crispy bacon hiding under her eggs?). Then they mixed up two orders(um, this plate should’ve had scrambled eggs, that plate should’ve had the fried eggs…). When the waiter was alerted to the problem, he made sure to let us know it was not his fault. That’s nice, but the problem is still a problem, no? He brings out another plate for my vegetarian friend whose initial order had bacon on it. Guess what? This plate also had meat products on it. *SIGH* Owner and manager were very apologetic and discounted the bill. But the waiter was defensive and argumentative. I think maybe he needs more training for customer service skills. Arguing with customers is not the way to go. Seeing as this place is not in my immediate vicinity and the magnitude of mess ups… I’m not likely to ever come again. MAYBE it’s a better experience if you’re not a picky eater and you come in a small group.

This joint is pretty sweet! I got a giant cider and a three dip platter and enjoyed them immensely! The guys had beers and sandwiches(I think) and I know they were happy! Seems like it has been around for a while as it is full of personality. There is a cool vibe, a historic design, and a large tasty menu. Plus, they have a lot of Colorado brews on tap. The service was good, the parking was OK, and the prices were average. But, this space has such charm and quality goods that it is better than average for sure. The old school restrooms are neato, but not accessible and down an old narrow flight of stairs. They advertised various local events and seemed to be connected to a theater. This place was classic Colorado mountain town charming and I highly recommend it for getting some grub and grabbing some drinks!
