This place stinks, meaning it smells terrible. There’s actually a lot wrong with this bar and I feel like it could be an excellent case-study for entrepreneurial students — how not to run/market/scale a business. Drinks are terrible and overpriced. Embarrassingly so. The pours are weak and small, and I actually question whether or not they dilute their booze. The staff is unremarkable and tiring to deal with — you have to spell out everything. They don’t even know their own stock, like they’re confused about what they serve everyday. To give you an idea of the mismatch nature of this establishment, it’s called«The Speakeasy» and has the Art Deco branding in the name, yet they have vinyl signage advertising PBR outside. Gaudy DJ fliers litter the bar and they play terrible music. I don’t get it. This place is dealing with a serious identity crisis. There are too many other options on Main Street that I’d suggest over this. Surprisingly, places like Tex-Mex have better drinks for far less and is really relaxed. Breakers is a better option if you’re looking for pool, but pass on this hole.

I learnt the difference between«where you sit» and«where you belong» last night. I never feel like part of the crowd no matter where I go but small town life is new to me and certain places have a mentality of atmosphere that you enjoy or not.

They are not good on timing. They will advertise a time online and not stick to it. For example, they advertised a DJ dance party to start at 9pm, so I brought my Meetup group there. They had a poker game going and poker tables on the dance floor. Even after asking and complaining to the owner 3 times, the poker game kept going on until well after 10pm. I walked out! Another time, we went to another DJ dance party. The DJ was catering to his«homies». Our group(3 of us) were the only ones up «trying» to dance to the OLD music he was playing from 10pm(they started late again) until approximately 12am, when a couple people came on the dance floor. That was after I spoke with the owner to say the DJ was not very good. She said she«liked him» and that he was«playing to the crowd». I asked, «what crowd», «we are the only ones dancing». Then she decided she would talk to him. He then played a few new songs, but went back to the old stuff. A few of his«homies» would go out the back FIREEXIT door, prop it open to smoke, blasting the guests with freezing cold air and smoke all over the dance floor. So, I went out the door to see what was going on, looked up the stairs, told them to go around and smoke up front, moved the rock and closed the door. I knew they were not supposed to do that because the owner *normally* has an employee sitting in front of that door making sure people don’t do that, but he was not present. The bi fat guy later came back and got in my face while I was on the dance floor and threatened me. So, I went to the owner. She went and found the guy who was supposed to be watching the door. But later, the doorman was LETTINGPEOPLE out there to smoke, so I think the owner gives patrons lip service, even though that’s a fire code violation! The drinks are watered down and they cater to bums off the street. They serve them until they are falling down drunk. They entire bar area is full of them and you can’t get a drink later without being accosted by them. We won’t be back! And we bring a lot of business as a Meetup group. Generally the back area is empty, but he front bar is filled with drink bums off the street — and they stink!

Cool venue. $ 5/person cover for a tired old band. Kind of a wait for beer. ~10oz of Avery IPA was $ 6!!! Please.

I don’t get it. So much potential absolutely no desire to do any more than just«get by». The«theme» of Speakeasy won’t much longer cover what this place is, a dirty basement transient bar. The bartenders have either been extremely slow(the place was never half full all three of my visits) or they will simply ignore you. They have no knowledge of mixology, NONE and when I went through a list of basic 101 mixology drinks… with every listing they shrugged their shoulders and shook their head. Frustrating. A guy sitting at the bar my last visit instructed the bartender on how to make a GINGERANDDARKRUM for crying out loud, note they did not ask for a Dark and Stormy and STILL with asking for the drink in it’s ingredient form, they were clueless. This was my third visit and with the opening of THREE new amazing nearby wine and beer venues(and more on the way) it will be my last.

I have yet to hit this place when it’s busy, and I’ve been here on Friday and Saturday nights. The bar staff can be spot-on or a bit slow and hesitant, depending on who you get. The manager is great and very responsive to feedback. Live bands play in the area downstairs just off the main bar and I’ve heard some fantastic jam bands there. To the side of the live area is a nicely-appointed space with two red-felt pool tables. Clientele seem to be rather cool, a more mature crowd until they get into their cups and a few of them get … strange. All in all a much better venue than attendance would seem to indicate. Am very hopeful that things will pick up.

The vibe of the Speakeasy is awesome all the bartenders are happy and willing to serve you with a smile. With a great atmosphere and wonderful people this place is a must go if you are trying to drink in Longmont.

This is a great live music venue in downtown Longmont. Jazz Jam Sessions every Thursday night from 7−9pm. Great drinks and friendly service. The interior has a vintage speakeasy vibe and there are pool tables as well. I just moved to Longmont and I am now a regular at the Speakeasy.

I love the vibe in this club. It’s very retro with a flare of elegance. My girlfriend and I went in to check it out after a concert and we loved the music and overall cool surroundings. They have a wide variety of live bands all the time so we will go back for sure. We decided not to stay long because they were wanting to charge a cover charge and we knew we could not stay long. The bar looked great and all the fun seating throughout looked cozy and inviting. We look forward to trying it again in the near future.

Cute place. Has potential. Bartender chicks? Useless and clueless. One made a Cosmo with cranberry and lime, two acids. C’mon. Bartender 101. Let a poor guy next to us wait 10 minutes for a shot of vodka. Consistently under-poured drinks for inappropriate prices. $ 8 single weak vodka soda. Not right. Ran out of glassware at 9:00; moved on to plastic. $ 11 cosmos in a Silo plastic cup? Awesome. This place should work, but falls horribly short. Close it down. Not worth anyone’s time.

Manager rides around on his high horse, and staff is rude. Couldn’t play pool because people were playing magic the gathering on it. Bartenders just make up prices for each drink. Place has potential but not with the crew that is there. Will not be back

Came here with DH to have a little relaxing time with live music for our anniversary. Plus: Music was good, enthusiastic band and singer! Place is nicely decorated, lots of seating 3 rooms means you can spread out, to help minimize the noise of the band or to play pool or chat Lots of liquor at the bar Relaxing vibe — not a typical bar Cons: Bar isn’t very knowledgeable about drinks — only one bartender seemed to know anything and he still had to check on one drink(a sidecar — classic for the era they are representing) Music in the music room is LOUD Beer on tap isn’t very local and not that many options No food — they did have chex mix at the bar Honestly, I know 3* is considered only ok but we will be returning here, it is a nice chill place and with a bit more effort they could easily become 5* — give them a shot if you are NOT looking for a typical bar and want some live music and chilling out with your friends/family/loved ones/new date. Be aware that it’s almost like being invited to someone’s house — the staff just stands around and chats, smoke comes in if you are near the door, and it’s not a professional, upstanding place, it’s just a basement lounge with live music and drinks.

Went there last night to check it out again. hoping that things were better.(My first experience was bad) the bartenders couldn’t handle there shit. Pouring the worst drinks. We all decided on beer, because let’s face it. Who wants to pay for an 8 dollar short vodka/soda that is not properly poured. Anyways, we ask for 4 bud lights. Simple enough right!!! WRONG! the bartender(owner) states they are out of a lot of beer and that they only had two Heineken and two Coronas. okay fine we’ll take it. Had to ask for limes for the Coronas. Seriously??? Get your shit together! Paid well over 20 bucks for 4 beers. Ugh. Now I remember why I can’t deal with this place. Granted the venue itself is awesome, but the staff/owner don’t know there ass from there elbows! The best employee they have is the girl working the door, checking id’s.

The space is fantastic. I love the vintage underground, the discovery as each room opens onto the next. The staff is mostly friendly, and they seem to wrangle in some good music. I really want to like this place a lot, but I’m not sure what’s up with the management. The first time I came here with some girlfriends before an event at the Dickens, they were out of vodka. Let me say that again: They were OUT of VODKA. When it finally arrived maybe 45 minutes later, they did not charge us for the one drink we each had to slam on out way out the door, but still. How does a bar run out of vodka? This weekend, I brought my husband in for a nightcap. After I was told that they were out of my first choice of beer, I had to choose THREE additional beers before I found one they actually had. I might expect this from a bar in the middle of the woods with limited vendor access, but this is the first(and second) time I have ever encountered a bar being out of something that wasn’t a special or seasonal offering. Will this keep me from returning? Probably not. But it will certainly never be my top choice.

To get to the bar you have to walk down a flight of steps to the basement, the front door is unmarked and I was wondering if I should slip money though the door for admission. Once inside there is a well stocked bar and great live music. Everyone is friendly and the atmosphere is great. I will definitely be coming back again soon! Only thing I would recommend is to have a list of a couple signature cocktails, maybe prohibition themed?

Had been jonesing to come here for months since they opened. Finally had the chance to last night and it lived up to all my expectations. It’s divided into three areas, an elevated bar with velvet seating leads to another room with tables chairs and some cute comfy couches with a stage to listen to live music which leads to a room with two pool tables. The room with pool tables looks like a super fun room to rent for a party. There was an amazing jazz band playing that covered a coupe of recent songs with a jazz twist. Relaxing and entertaining. I particularly love the way the place is decorated with the 20s vibe and the chandeliers etc. They nailed it. It’s a beautiful place to be without feeling pretentious. The only recommendation I have for this place is for them to have a cocktail menu. They currently don’t have a cocktail menu and even if they added a small menu with 4 signature cocktails on it, that’d be perfect. This kind of place just screams for needing something like that. They have different things going on every night, jazz, karaōke, open mic, etc. Follow them on facebook to get the scoop on the scheduled. Can’t wait to come back.

There’s a hip little spot just along Old Main Street, In Longmont of all places, and man, it’s a diamond in the ruff, one of the newest, best kept secrets in the vicinity. On the outside, it’s merely a concrete staircase disappearing down into the sidewalk, an overlapping black canopy, with«The Speakeasy», scrawled across it, in the most subtle white lettering. Upon descending the staircase, I wouldn’t say I was transported through time, but I certainly was swept away from Longmont, the noise of the street drowned out by the sweet sounds of jazz, and I mean good jazz, real people jamming, energy flowing. I showed up for the Thursday Jazz Jam, which starts around 8:30pm; every Thursday, local musicians are invited to get on stage and join in, which makes for amazing variety, and genuine chemistry. The band is the audience, the audience is the band! Quality mingling opportunities. As a tall gentleman, I was also pleased by the space itself, three separate rooms, dressed to the nines and looking vintage, the main Lounge and Bar, The Jazz Hall, and just connected to that, a Pool Hall; Good folks, good times, and tons of space, which by the caliber of the talent, should have been crammed to the brim with movers n’ shakers, etc. The Staff was friendly and the crowd was also pleasant, a reasonable mix of artists, musicians and other locals in the know, and of course, a bar-fly or two. Good selection of spirits; Strong bow and Guinness on tap, and the boss knew how to pour me a snakebite(the beer, not the shot), so that’s always a plus; also on tap, Lefthand selection, Oscar Blues, and the usual array of buds and lights. Bottom line, if you like good jazz in an intimate venue, or don’t feel like braving the streets of Denver, «The Speakeasy», is an amazing alternative on the front range, and it’s worth a visit when the music is playing. If gems like this lounge become the norm, then I can foresee Longmont becoming a jazz town, and as a usually bored and restless resident, I for one, am totally ok with that. (They also have Karaōke on Tuesdays, live music regularly, salsa nights, and a variety of other events, check their Facebook for updates.)
