One solution for every problem, dig a trench just inside the exterior walls, install a sump pump. Cost: about $ 15K to $ 20K. Benefit: None. While this business model works for them, homeowners rarely see any benefit. I did not see any improvement. Glad when they walked away from the job, so I could hire someone with common sense, experience and skills. Sump pump installation was in a location that had no good effect. Outrageously bad design. Solution, implemented by others, was to grade the lot properly. Firm would do well to add the word«swale» to their working knowledge base.

Contact other waterproofing companies before even considering Mid-Atlantic’s services. The«expert» that did the quote provided a solution that they offer rather than actually getting to the root of the problem. The experience was like being pushed by a used car salesman to sell you a car that you don’t need or even want. Don’t give in! Be sure to get quotes from other waterproofers, who will be more honest rather than trying to sell you a solution that costs thousands of dollars and may not even fix the issue. Another waterproofing company rep I worked with actually took the time to find the exact source of leaks which was actually above ground level and through cracks on the siding of the house. Don’t get conned by this company. They continue to contact me with«special offers» and«discounts» and will not stop calling.

I wish I never contacted this company. My basement was flooding this summer. I freaked out and contacted this company, and some others. Turns out the problem was just a clogged pipe for the gutters. Fixing that solved my problem. The Mid-Atlantic salesman tried to convince me that my townhouse needed a french drain on all four walls of my basement. Never mind that two of those walls are shared with neighbors and not exposed to the outdoors. He offered to cut the cost by a third, but only if I signed up that night. I declined the work. At first, I got weekly calls trying to sell me the services that I declined, with further price cuts. Every time Mid-Atlantic called, I asked them to never contact me again. I still get at least one call a month. The last one happened while I was overseas. It was 2AM in that time zone. I’ve blocked the number for the next three months. If I ever hear from them again, I’m contacting the FTC and the Virginia Attorney General.

Absolute con-artists. Work they sold me was totally unnecessary and worse off, did absolutely nothing to stop my leaking basements. If there is a hell, may these bastards spend eternity rotting/swimming in a wet, moldy basement.

We, like many others this spring, had our basement flood with the record rainfall we had. Mid-Atlantic was recommended to us. Scott came out to look at our basement to asses what needed to be done to fix the issue. We needed to install French drains and 2 sump pumps. We agreed and Scott came back to our home to fill out all the paperwork and collect our deposit. It was agreed that they would hold our deposit for 4 days and then process it. The next day our bank account was hit with the enormous charge before we had time to move our funds around. I called Mid-Atlantic to see what was going on. They had mistakenly charged us early, leaving us in quite a bind. The general manager, Chris, apologized profusely and said he would send us a $ 50 gift card in as a gesture to make things right. I thanked him and thought our issues were behind us. Wow, was I wrong! The job was scheduled to start on Memorial Day. I found it a little strange they were working on the holiday, but was happy to have them out to resolve our wet basement. The contractors they sent did a wonderful job. They were courteous, prompt, asked and answered all our questions about what they were doing and took care of protecting the belongings that were too heavy to move. Our next problem arose when there was a question about how to tie in a drain pipe to the new system. Being a holiday, the office was closed and nobody answered their phones to answer the subcontractors and my question. Work was delayed a day and the inspection by the county had to be pushed. The subcontractors had to push their next clients job until we were given an answer on our questions. They spent an extra 8hrs working in our home due to this delay. The work was finished and our basement seemed to be finished. A month later I went to change our air filter in our HVAC unit and discovered they placed the new pipe too close to the filter drawer and the filter could not be removed or installed. I placed a call to the office and was told everyone was in a meeting and I would get a call back. No call was received, so I called again a week later. Same thing, all in meetings. I made one last call and left a third message with the receptionist. Two weeks later I received a call from Chris, the GM, but he was unaware of my three previous calls. He had called as a customer service quality check and to see how everything had gone. I explained my frustrations, how if you are going to tell a customer something you should follow through, and that I was very unhappy with their customer service and lack of communication. He apologized and tried to make it up and promised to send out the $ 50 gift card that had never been sent and have Arthur call me on Monday afternoon. As it was a Friday afternoon, I was fine with that and said I would look forward to his call Monday. Monday came and went with no phone call… as did the next two weeks. I called back and told the receptionist I had no more patience and needed to speak with Chris. Chris again apologized for the mix up and explained that Arthur was now on vacation. He said that he and another manager would come over tomorrow(this past Wednesday) to meet with me and see the issue themselves. It was set for around 3pm and was told they would call before they came. At 4:45pm I still had no call and zero confidence in these guys. One gentleman arrived shortly before 5pm(no prior call) and Chris was not with him. He checked out the issue and said he would come back tomorrow to fix it. He did and he showed up on time and was in and out in about 20 minutes, that’s how easy a fix it was! I never received a call or apology from Chris for his no show or lack of respect for my time. Take your thousands of dollars and find a different company to work with. The guys at Mid-Atlantic don’t know the first thing about customer service or respecting you as a customer and someone who is keeping them in business. This is not the way management should be treating customers.

For over 2 years now, I’ve been getting multiple telemarketing calls from Mid-Atlantic offering me a free basement assessment. I’ve asked them to remove me from their calling list several dozen times. Each time, I am assured that the calls will stop. Only they do not stop. To make matters worse, they are under the mistaken impression that I only speak Spanish.

About 24 hours after we closed on our first house, a torrential thunderstorm roared through Fairfax County. Our inspector had warned us that our below-grade basement windows might lead to a bit of «leaking» every few years or during a «perfect storm.» Well, that was an understatement. We spent our first night of home-ownership procuring a mop and bucket and going to work. Over the next few months, we looked into an exterior french drain but our yard didn’t have enough slope. We also looked into replacing the window wells alone but that wasn’t going to solve everything. Mid-Atlantic gave us a reality check: our 1955 house wasn’t built to be waterproof forever. In the end, they installed a full interior perimeter drainage system with two sump pumps, window well drains, and a stairway drain. They worked with us on price, which came out lower than a competitor who offered only window wells and a dehumidifier, and helped us procure very reasonable fixed-rate financing. They completed the job early and didn’t even seem to disturb our dog while they were there. A few weeks later, we were actually hit by a so-called perfect storm: Hurricane Sandy. Our back lawn looked like a pond. Water spilled over the lip of our basement stairs. Power flickered on and off. Not a drop of water entered the house itself. I highly recommend Mid Atlantic for your waterproofing needs.
