I got sick here from the fish as well. I had to cancel my trip and lost several days at work because of it. I also ordered the chef’s choice, apparently the chef chooses the oldest fish.

I was actually surprisingly impressed with this place, not because of the reviews, but because of the flavor of the food. I ordered a bento box with chicken teriyaki and salmon teriyaki, my dad ordered a tekka maki and my mom ordered a bento box with tempura and salmon teriyaki, and we all thoroughly enjoyed our food. The main reason I personally enjoyed it was because the chicken teriyaki and salmon teriyaki tasted less like traditional Japanese food and more like something you’d find at a health– focused restaurant. Everything was very light and well seasoned which made it a really enjoyable experience and one that I don’t normally get at Japanese restaurants. My dad said that they sushi was pretty standard, so I think the only real differentiating factor here is the flavor of the teriyaki dishes. Anyways, I was not expecting such a surprise in flavor, but I’m glad that it happened because I will definitely be coming back here soon. It may now be my go-to Japanese restaurant.

I always get a fresh food and food is great. Music is soothing to my ears. My favorite is water fresh unagi.

Very good food and attentive and caring staff. We have been there multiple times and enjoyed it each time. They also have an outdoor seating, so if you are in the mood for it, you can enjoy a lively part of the town.

I REALLY wanted to like this place but unfortunately the food was mediocre and service slow. The only thing that is unique and different was their calamari tempura which was very good but their gyoza was just so so and the rest of the meal like their salmon teriyaki wasn’t anything special. And we were extremely disappointed with their dragon roll… small and hardly any flavor… Even with the Groupon we paid a lot and if it weren’t for the Groupon we would have never come to try it… so at least we tried… Just not our type of Japanese restaurant — there’s a lot more better ones out there

For $ 9.95, you get a lot in their bento boxes. I chose the bulgogi and it was delicious! I love that they had miso soup with it too. I ordered it to go and the wait wasn’t long either.

I had bad fish here once. Lessons learned: 1. Never order/buy fish during the weekend(I thought this one was a myth, especially if it’s a seafood restaurant) and 2. Make that first time the last time. In case you’re wondering: I’m old enough to know myself well and I’m positive my sickness was from the Chirashi Sushi I ordered here. I thought I would leave it up to the chef to choose what’s freshest; it seems I was woefully wrong. Other than that it was an OK experience: no outstanding(either bad or good) service, no note-worthy/very unpleasant décor or ambiance. 3rd lesson learned: take a look at a sushi place’s menu and if you see ridiculous sounding items like«Sushi Pizza Roll» and«BBQ Roll» among other traditional sounding items, it means they’re trying too hard and that inevitably means they’ll fail. I know they failed me; after 2 weeks of symptoms, I’m feeling better but I wouldn’t do it again.

We went there with a big group of people and the service was a bit uneven. No menus upon sitting down, and forgot about a dish I ordered and dropped it off 15 mins after everyone had completed their meals. It was not the best japanese place I have been to certainly not the worst. Would I come back here? Probably not as there are better options in Los Altos

I was more impressed by the interior /décor than the food. We ordered a sashimi combo, which includes tuna, white tuna, salmon and a type of fish that I don’t recall. The tuna was soft and delicious but the white tuna was gross… They brought it back to the kitchen and it turned out that the table next to us had the same issue too.

Not good not bad — kind of in between. Service — I had nice service but you could see they were understaffed at lunch time for the number they were serving. People were approaching the cash register with their credit cards Food — fine. Maybe ordering bulgogi in a Japanese restaurant wasn’t a good idea. Meat was tough and seasoning a bit bland. Tasty California roll and salad Price — for a lunch special bento box, $ 9.95 was a good price. Ambiance — typical Japanese wood feel with a little more warmth(red walls and decorations) Would I come back? Probably not.

It was pretty good. The various maki I had were each quite enjoyable. The miso soup was pretty salty, but other than that everything was good.

I guess I’ve been lucky here as all the dishes I’ve had have been very good. What I like the most about this place is there are some fun dishes they offer that I haven’t seen at other Japanese restaurants. The Yakisoba for example is a fun dish of noodles and either veggies, meat, or seafood. They also offer some nice lunch combinations of either udon with sashimi or many vegetarian options like the vegetarian sushi delight. It’s never packed and the service is always quick and friendly. The sushi maker at the bar seems legit and listens to whatever you want to modify which I like. I’m not into the little eggs on anything I order so they will substitute for me. I also like that their standard salad dressing they offer with the meals, it is much better than the soggy mayonnaise based ones you mostly find at other places. All the fish I have had is very fresh and the portions are perfect. I’m definitely happy this place exists in Los Altos as a all the others on State and Main are pretty lame.

Come here for the crazy delicious ROLLS! Not for bulgogi or traditional sashimi/nigiri or anything else. Their rolls are unique and delicious! They get extra points for outdoor seating and being open until 3p for lunch and ONLINE ordering and delivery! Yay Good prices good food

Average. Visited during weekend for lunch. No other patrons, so service was fast and attentive. Had tempura and bulgogi lunch special. Tempura was good; cannot go wrong with tempura. Bulgogi however was bland. As for sides, the California roll was small and taste was average. Gyoza(fried dumpling) was not good; they just taste different than typical Chinese or Japanese gyoza.

I wanted to like this place… Really, I did… But I have had much better food, at the same price, elsewhere. We decided to bring the kids and try lunch. I had the bento box with Bulgogi. Their version of Bulgogi is flavorless, thin strips of beef that are then over-seasoned with pepper. A lot of pepper, I can’t even exaggerate it. After I paid, I hustled over to the nearest coffee place to try and regain control over my sad taste buds. Even the kids noticed how much pepper was in their chicken teriyaki. What is the deal with all the pepper? So: Meh. Won’t be back.

This is place average as a lunch spot. Would never come here for sushi regardless when there’s akane a block away. It is a korean owned japanese restuarant that does not make either very well. Chicken cutlet is bento is okay. Bulgogi lunch has no flavor at all which I didn’t think was possible with marinated beef… The Udon was honestly gross. Had toppings that normally does not exist in a Japanese Udon. There are a lot of solid japanese restaurants that are cheap if you just want rolls. This place is not really cheap but its not very good either.

Okay came back for round 2!!! The place was busy when we walked in. They were out of tables so they asked we cared to it at the sushi table. We didn’t mind at all! The sushi mAn was really nice and an excellent sushi chef!!! All the fishes in from of us were fresh and clean. The wait staff was great and knew everything in the menu! My favorite for dinner was the bbq roll! Very tasty! Their servings here are very big! So there’s plenty of rolls to share! On the plus side, my fiancé and I used a groupon deal which was a steal! The ambiance is nice and there are bamboo trees around the wall for the feel of Japan. I think it’s cute! Good place for a nice casual sushi dinner :)

Lovely assemblage of vegetarian dishes, such as a healthy tofu spring leaf salad with spices lemon wedges, small flavorful gyoza, fresh-snapped edamame, and a nice asparagus tempura cucumber avocado roll. The miso soup was vegetarian too, not encumbered with bonito flakes like at so many places these days. PS Thinking of you and your love of sushi, ML

A solid place to go get bentos for lunch. I’ve been here a couple times with my boss for our monthly lunches. The food is ok, nothing amazing, but their food is always consistent. The sushi is ok and the bentos are standard. Pricing is 10 – 15 $ depending on what you get. Service is lacking here though, every time we are here we have to ask for water refills and it takes them forever to get us the check.

Mikado’s my friend’s favorite sushi spot, but I suppose that is a product of it being her local spot. After coming here a few times now, I would say it’s good enough but definitely not top tier. If you get past all the crazy sushi roll names, it’s pretty much the standard mix and match combination of different fish or tempura on a roll and whether the roll itself is fresh, baked, or fried. The food is definitely tasty and the rolls are fairly large, but I do expect better quality when the prices are definitely on the higher end. Also, it can sometimes be a struggle to get service, but as an Asian guy I’ve learned to just deal with it. Overall, I would come here without any issue if my friend wanted to, but it’s not my preferred sushi spot.
